It's a very effective treatment for self-harmers in conjunction with SSRIs and either CBT or ECT, any of these treatments alone I will admit are hardly effective by themselves. The average male height is 6'1. The average female height is 5'7. A man does not become a woman if his height is closer to the female average, and a woman does not become a man if her height is closer to the male average. Even if a man was shorter than the female average, he would still be male. Even if a man was shorter than any individual female, he would not become a woman. To talk of a "male brain" or "female brain" is simply to compare averages in this way.

The more I think about it the more it seems to just be gender dysphoria. That is a feeling that makes a lot of sense, and I can understand why people want to transition, but it mostly feels like a mindset that can be overcome. Lots of people experience this and then it goes away, it is mostly a cultural issue. People who identify as "trans" however, get sucked into the mindset and make things far, far worse for themselves. They create a positive feedback loop that encourages a mindset that pushes them towards suicide. It's truly horrible.
The solution is to embrace the gender you were born with.
I started doing martial arts (funnily enough, lots of FtM trans people there too), working out, and cut down on weed and porn. Makes a huge difference.
I believe it is the kind of thing that can be mentally overcome, but our culture is transforming itself into one that encourages people not to do so.
