I see a lot of Americans calling Russia a shithole but the truth is our country is a shithole too. The thing we need to remember is that we may both be shitholes but we're our own shithole, and Russia its own shithole. Americans have this problem of wanting everyone in the world to be like them and being interventionists set out on a crusade to change countries. Russians have this problem too but to a much lesser extent. The plain truth is that our governments' political ideals will just never come to a full cooperation and will never agree with one another. Russians and Americans are just too different when it comes to what they want out of their governments. Americans are naturally resistant to big government and were born on an ideal of libertarianism, Russians however prefer a strong authoritarian power to run their country. Americans are friendly, talkative, loud, brash, consumerist and like big open spaces; Russians are colder, distant, resistant to hubris and big open spaces just gives them a headache because they have a ton of land but all it does is give them problems on how to develop it best with infrastructure (although it also gives their enemies a headache too if they ever try an invasion).
Our cultures are just too different for any serious political cooperation. I'd like to see more apolitical cooperation between us. We may be worlds apart but we can find things to agree on and stuff to trade. I saw a video a while back of an American missionary building an orphanage somewhere in the Russian countryside and the Russians were grateful to them. No political bullshit was involved. Or stuff like the ISS, and cooperation between our space agencies to meet mutual goals. That kind of thing seems the best for our people. But no more of this trying-to-make-Russia-a-liberal-democracy or trying-to-make-America-an-authoritarian-tsarship. Let's just leave each other alone, trade AKs with M16s, do business and go our separate paths.
