Watching the rise of the alt-right is quite interesting to me. It actually gives you some perspective on how Nazism took power in Germany and in the hearts of many Germans. It was always perplexing to me, how could these people come to embrace an ideology which was so hateful and which sought to kill/remove people, citizens of their country based on their race or religion, an idea so obviously wrong and immoral.
And yet getting to see it happen again today is truly insightful. It leads me to believe no ideology is all bad or all evil. All the greatest lies have a little truth in them. The alt-right has many valid points. In fact many were led here watching the ideas and videos of people who spoke the simple truths which the movement has adopted as part of their core winning issues. But those video weren't David Duke or Andrew Anglin. They were Ben Shapiro or Milo. The initial reaction, the movement to the right is in response to the brazen absurdity of the left. The harsh anti-white racism which emanates from their camp. Interestingly the source of their hate and the hate of the alt-right lie in the same mistaken logic. A reactionary movement which seeks to right wrongs through a new injustice which they deem to be a counter weight. Affirmative action is an excellent example of this practice on the left. On the right this practice arises in the ideas which would remove certain people from their positions based on their ethnicity. Neither will achieve the just society we deserve.
The alt-right had to be repeatedly convinced that they were being violated by a subhuman beast who deserves none of the kindnesses bestowed upon the rest of human kind. The Jew is an excellent target for them. For while they resent the black and Muslim, their obvious deficit in intelligence and cunning make them a poor scape goat. No the clever Jews are more easily targeted. As are all minorities in all lands throughout time.
Only through righteous victim-hood can brazen acts of violence and malice be justified. It is through this process of mixing legitimate greivences with wild conspiracy theories and a steady diet of victim-hood that otherwise good people can be influenced to commit unspeakable horrors. The fear of the other. The fear of the unknown. A biological instinct to be sure but how black it can make the otherwise generous hearts of men...
