What is the most Feminist friendly character in manga or anime?
I don't think it's controversial to say that Anime in general is generally pretty fucking misogynistic and/or has very shallow written female characters that tend to just exist for sex appeal for male audiences and often reinforce traditional Japanese gender roles (often the case in Dramas). So I was thinking out of all of anime, there must be female characters who are strong, brave and yet don't abandon their femininity to resort to misogynistic traits (or just be genderswapped male characters) I think Nausicaa is a character that I would hold up as an incredibly well written Female character, strong, brave yet motherly and caring.
I think many Ghibli females hold up to such a standard (Isao and Miyazaki are both card carrying hardcore feminists and Socialists) but aside from Ghibli what other incredibly well written female characters are out there?

Wow, what a bold and brave move. I salute you Op.
As far as my experience goes, I have to say that despite a lot of misogynistic tropes concerning female characters as you mentioned, there're also a great number of amazing females in manga that I personally love. I'm not really sure if they can be qualified as "feminist enough", but here goes:
- Morgiana from Magi: strong enough to fight on her own, but still very loving and emotional, with her own inner struggle and identity.
- The female cast from Fullmetal Alchemist: each of their own is amazing.
- Marcille from Dungeon Meshi: a cute but whiny elf with a pretty rigid and strict personality, which often resulted in her being the butt of every joke in the manga. Watching her suffering is really a refreshing experience =))).
- and don't forger Shoujo, Maya and Ayumi from Glass mask is amazing imo, having their own passion for staged drama, and working hard to achieve their dream while at the same time competing with each other. Nothing as great as watching female characters trying and achieving their goals through hard work and failure

Troll thread or not:
Look up anime before 2010. You're completely wrong OP, anime used to have more well-developed, incredible female characters in one year than the entire U.S. produced in a decade. Next to the earliest hong kong action movies anime and manga is the most feminist artistic medium to ever exist.
And the most feminist anime character is Tenjou Utena.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but Tomoko from Watamote is quite feminist imo.
Her appeal lies in her being one of the worst female personalities ever written in manga that she's so refreshing and actually very empowering to see the mangaka making such a bold move in an industry full of stereotypes and playing safe. There've been a lot of otaku female characters written in manga, but most of them are inclined to cuteness and awkward but moe humour, while Tomoko is actually ugly, super selfish, and overall terrible. I've never related to a character so much that I actually cried watching the anime =))). And desu watching her maturing and making more friends is pretty empowering imo.

Sick and tired of this meme. Every medium overly sexualizes and simplifies women. Western movies do it all the time and they're using real people who have to frequently have to show off their bodies to compete with men. Sex sells and it's prevalent everywhere. Anime is just more obvious about it because the Japanese often like really pushover women because Japanese men are also pushover. If you think there aren't any well written female characters in anime you're looking in the wrong places because they're aren't many well written characters in the first place. Out of the stuff that stands above the seasonal trash I'd say the ratio of woman that are active members in any story and tastefully written is significantly higher than that of Western media. The only difference is that in bad stuff from the west women are quietly pushed to the sidelines and subtly sexualized where as stupid shit from the east is really obvious about it.

Some feminists insist male societal roles and violence don't make someone feminist.
But anyone who spends their day shooting people and making fun of their CO's dick is rad in my book.
Aforementioned Hawkeye and Nausicaa. Zero and FSN Saber, in the versions without sex. Misato from Eva. Balsa. Konata spends all her time in a typically male hobby, talks like a guy, teases girls, doesn't give a fuck, and can beat you up. Maybe not "feminism" but whatever. Takatsuki from Wandering Son.
Colton James
remember to type sage in the options field

As I said already, punching women is just wrong. Not only can cause lasting damage but also puts her as an equal position to men.

I don't care, I love it. Besides, how can it put them on equal position when a man would just spit blood and punch back, while a woman would either cry or fall down?

When you act like a barbarian would, the message is "I have to use actual force and treat you like a worthy opponent". But if you deal with girls properly it is "You're barely more than a child compared to me".

There's times where there's no better remedy than the use of force though. Not because it will heart than physically, but due to the moral affect, just like it happens with a child.
And trust me, women do love violence.

You also might like the cast of FMA, Linalee Lee from D. Gray Man, Ochako Uraraka from Boku no Hero Academia, the whole cast of Little Witch Academia, Sailor Moon in general, Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Emma from The Promissed Neverland, Akane Tsunemori from Psycho-Pass, the eponimous girl from Paprika, half of the mahou shoujo genre... I think I'm tired. In general your problem is not sexism in anime, it's that you're watching shit.
