>Howls moving castle lost to fucking Wallace and Grommit

How on earth did this even happen? Were the referees paid out by Dreamworks or did Miyazaki drop the ball that badly?

It should have been clear case for Howls

Wallace and Gromit is better than anything Miyazaki's done in the past two decades.

The animation category is a shit show. There have been articles where the voters have been interviewed and some of them outright hate animation and abstain from voting or just vote for whatever their kids like..

The judges are not from the animation industry, and show open disdain for anything animated. Many refuse to vote, let alone watch, the material.

Nominations are made by people from that field (so directors nominate for directing), but final verdict is done by everyone.

W&G is pretty fucking good, and I'm sure it's Miyazaki-approved

Sure, I prefer Ghibli works because I'm a weeb, but the sheer amount of technical skill that goes into producing a single W&G episode is enormous

Don't shit it on like an ignorant fag

Wallace and Gromit were true kino though.

Oscar is a popularity contest, Miyazaki winning once is a miracle itself, and besides that Howls is easily one of the worst Ghibli movies, the ending was one of the most dumb asspulls I've ever seen, not even the scenary porn could save it.

I didn't watch Wallace and Grommit, but I guess it was a cute kid's movie and people probably liked the stop motion animation more back then since the other contender was Corpse Bride.

Wallace and Gromit movies are usually good, especially Were-Rabbit. Howl is easily Miyazaki's worst film.

The animation academy award is a joke, most f the people voting haven't seen any of the nominated films because the think cartoons are for children, so they just vote for Disney/Pixar.

That being said, W&G was better than Howl.

>How on earth did this even happen

Because Wallace and Grommit was hands down best one.

Howl's moving castle is not Miyazaki's best, and W&G was awesome

I haven't watched this W&G movie but the old ones were pretty fucking good while Howl was mediocre. It probably deserved it.

>itt OP gets BTFO with his shit opinions

>thinking that mess is better than Wallace and Gromit
Fucking weebs.

I don't like the academy awards, but W&G is way better than Howls from an animation viewpoint.

Wallace and Grommit is great

But that said, the Animation category of the oscars is a shitshow.
Voter responses from the past few years has shown that many voters don't even watch the nominees. They just vote on what their kids like if at all.

Look OP. I like Miyazaki and I liked Howl's moving castle a lot. But Wallace and Grommit is legitimately a good movie and even if it's not visually as impressive as Howl's, I think there is a fair argument to say that it is the better movie. Hell from a writing perspective W&G is just more coherent. And Don't tell me you didn't find the stop motion impressive.

Howl's moving castle is just that bad.

I didn't like wallace and grommit, but Howl has quite a few problems. Most notably it goes to shit after Soliman shows up and invites Howl and the witch to the palace. Before that the movie is great, but after that it goes in a complete different direction, sophie's curse is mostly forgotten, antagonists switch and the goal changes. Then there's sophie being a kiss-slut and not that much of a likable protagonist and Howl's characterization being somewhat inconsistent.

If anything you should be complaining about Frozen/BH6/Inside out winning instead of Wind rises/Kaguya/Marnie. But then again Spirited Away did not won because it was the best but because Lilo&Stitch was meh so disney decided to support the former. Academy awards just suck really.

I was planning, one day, to watch all the oscar nominated animated movies, but it seems like it's a popularity contest and rigged.

It isn't rigged, its just extremely political.

Political not like in liberals vs conservatives, but in a "Who has paid their dues and thus "deserves" to win.

Political issues do affect who wins too, but its mostly about internal politics. Its basically just hollywood having a big circlejerk.
At least with the big categories

In smaller categories (like animation) the voters just don't give a fuck. Many don't even watch all the movies, and many just vote on the things their kids like. So with that in mind, its easy to see why Wallace and Grommit beat Howl's. More kids of the voters actually saw it probably.

The Oscars is a huge shitshow. Watch the stuff that gets nominated for Cannes if you want to see actual art.

Cannes does have great shit, but they generally restrict themselves to european works.

Like said, people that work in animation pick the nominees, and that's pretty much the reason the lists usually include at least on or two foreign movies, as well as 2D, stop-motion and other techniques and not just dreamworks-pixar-disney 3D crap.
However everyone can vote everything and voters are not required to watch everything from a category before voting. That's why disney and pixar win most of the time.

So among the nominees you might find some unusual and quality stuff that's probably worth a watch. However anime is just only Ghibli and that's bullshit.

I see, thanks.
