You guys do realize there's more parties even in your country right?
Robert Thompson
America should join the European Union as Q predicted.

You dont understand the American system. The first past the post system is designed to force people to vote for one of two ideological coalitions.

Can we just vote for Hitler already.

actually in 2000 and 2016, the American people voted for Democrats.
Republicans only win because of affirmative action.

FPTP drives the political landscape toward a two party system. The first party to generalize and blur their platform starts winning. When voters get fed up with them, they vote for the second party to do that. And when they get fed up with those, the first party is there to catch their votes, so there's no opportunity for a third to grow.
Just look at what these parties stand for. There is very little ideology tying all their stances together. It's a catch-as-many-as-you-can hodgepodge.
Jacob Walker
I agree, a one party system makes way more sense.
Nicholas Gonzalez
European countries have effectively the same thing, we just have coalitions joined together into larger parties.
Alexander Green
The american republic is infallible because the constitution is a sacred goat. It doesn't matter that public opinion on any issue has no influence one way or the other, while congress votes according to the oligarchs.
The only democratic part of the USA is which puppet is on the throne.
Look for princeton study gilens page for the source.
Noah Cox
At least that allows for the possibility of the largest party within the coalition to set the main terms.
That's just in the ideal case, however. Politics in Germany and many other countries are pretty fucked up by all major parties being samey right now.
Luis Russell
>what is a primary? we have two parties, but as you can see from Bernie vs. Hillary and Trump vs. Jeb, we have choices between far left, center left, center right and national socialism
Chase Lopez
As opposed to the EU, where you get no say in your ruling party.

Agreed. Our no-party-system of electibve monarchy is way superior.
Jacob Johnson
>European countries have effectively the same thing, we just have coalitions joined together into larger parties.
No we don't.
What Americans don't grasp is that coalitions are formed AFTER the elections based on the RESULTS. So the next election you can have a completely different coalition.

neither party represents the interests of working class white people. so they flip between parties not knowing who to vote for.
Jeremiah Morales
>by all major parties being samey So what you are saying is that there tends to be two sides that develop in politics? And our parties usually have inner coalitions that form and usually change the dynamics of the party quite significantly. Although this is prevented when a small group of people gain power to control many aspects of the party, but that party tends to lose voter favor when that happens. The DNC in 2016 is a great example. The Bernie crowd was quite large and causing a schism so the big boys pulled the plug on his movement. And now the party is circling the drain.
On the other hand, the tea party movement in 2010 took the GOP by storm and forced the party to change if they ever wanted political relevance again. And now they hold majority.
In the future the DNC will eventually start allowing small coalitions to exist out of necessity to regain voter confidence. This is how our political system works, and adding a third party doesn't really fix anything but only gives the big two parties yet another tool to use against each other to avoid inevitable reorganization.
America has had third parties before, and they almost always end up being used by Dems or Reps to split votes in a district where a third party is strong. What you propose as a third option instead becomes a seed of corruption.
Ian Gutierrez
You must be new here.
Joshua Peterson
But that's the same shit as in Europe. Numerous parties, but only 2 with actual chances of wining, the rest of them are there just for coalitions and power games. At least americans can vote for the party candidates /representatives with somewhat different inner party opinions and views. We just have to vote for whomever they want us to vote, and that's usually a puppet of the party.
Dylan Taylor
Says the meme federal government lite.
Get fucked.
Jaxon Cook
Germany right now is literally a perfect example of why thats retarded. The coalitions formed are usually directly contrary to the will of the population. Fuck, just look at how unpopular the current german coaltion is.
