As I understand it, Mao Zedong wasnt actually famous in China for merely being some Emperor/dictator, but for being someone who basically told his own people to overthrow the system that he has created a few decades before. The cultural revolution was basically this; a dictator who tells his subjects to smash what he has build, because the system grew corrupt, settled and lost its revolutionary idealism.
This is really one of the hardest things for westeners to understand, who usually think about Mao as some sort of Stalin or Hitler, i.e. dictators who were very bureaucratic and tried to maintain social and political order to hold on their power.
Mao was basically the antithesis of all that - he smashed whatever resembled established order, even if it was his own political system that he has created.
A very weird man, who was driven by things going beyond just simple greed for power.
So, the Chinese basically think Trump to be a second Mao, because he also calls out for his supporters to crush the corrupt and atrophied establishment.
And despite nearly all Chinese agreeing that the Cultural Revolution was a mistake due to the damages to the nation's economy and culture, the basic idea of Maoism, the idea of permanent revolution and re-constitution of a system still resounds today - because chaos always means upwards mobility.
