Why are there so few intelligent brute characters in anime? It's always so cliche. It's like you're either a smartass nerd or a dumb muscle.

Because they would be broken.

Powerful and intelligent is a lethal combination usually reserved for the final boss.

Smart characters are only ever as smart as the people writing them.

Heresy.
>Why are there so few intelligent brute characters in anime?
Watch more anime.

makes sense, if you're naturally strong that might be enough to get you by so that's the skill you develop, if you're a weakling you need some other skill to get ahead... as the other user says, combo is for final bosses and stuff.

>Watch more anime.
oh but do tell. I've watched 40 different series and can't think of a single one.

Now I know some people here have seen more than a thousand but I'm seeing some kind of pattern. Or lack of.

Because in their mind they still operate at the level of cliches. Their readers and authors would have feelings of inferiority towards strong and intelligent characters.

>I've watched 40 different series

Off the top of my head and using really mainstream stuff,
>Toguro the younger in Yu Yu Hakusho
>Alex Armstrong in FMA
>Goddamn Kenshiro

This.
And conan was never particularly intelligent.

>I've watched 40 different series and can't think of a single one.
This gotta be bait.

Kingly characters usually have a fair amount of intelligence masquerading as charisma, and are always strong to boot.

Given the initial image was nonanime related, I suspect actual newfag.

I'd say literary Conan was very intelligent, he just wasn't book smart on account of not being formally educated.

He was not educated, that does not mean his cognitive abilities were impaired.

He was an average intelligence man who basically excelled in the things needed to be a great warrior and later king.

Because an intelligent character would be completely at odds with the middling intellect of most anime watchers.
Consider a Catholic socialist anime character who talks about critical theory and the dialectic and shit. Sup Forums posters, being the brainlets we are, would howl in defiance the name of max stirner and foucault and nietzsche and all our other brainlet idols.
No, us brainlets always want the nihilistic intelligent wicked sense of humor meme MCs like araragi because we're selfish pricks who cannot take other world-views seriously.

>Catholic socialist anime character who talks about critical theory and the dialect
so they would talk about nothing? they don't actually apply any type of real critical thought instead it's just methods and attempts to getting a marxist agenda. most jap crap anime is pretty marxist to begin with cause it's always focusing on inequality and trying to smash the "patriarchal" systems like hierarchy. the power of friendship is pretty communist.

cause the authors and audience are stupid. they want to self-insert and if it's both then it's too unrealistic for them. it needs to either be an idiot with muscles or "smart" character they can aspire to. there's maybe a couple dozen shows/manga which have overbearing, but smart protagonist/characters.

You mean charisma masquerading as intelligence? I would agree with that. They leave the actual thinking to sages.

The greatest hurdle.

funny how you can twist the same narrative with pol related shit on non pol boards

>Other world views besides mine is propaganda

To make micro dick, skinny fat jap manlets feel better. "I may not be a ripped sex god that kills enemies with his gaze, but at least I'm smart!"

Thanks for being a walking talking example of aforementioned brainlets you're a real trooper.
Conflating marxism with leftism is understandable but leftist tendencies are an accidental quality of marxism rather than an essential one. One might say (as people often do) that the communists were not real marxists. I would go a step further and say that marx was not a real marxist. I might even say Hegel wasn't a real hegelian. That critical theory has to burst its frame before we see its real merits, like the way don giovanni was interpreted by the romantics so that it somehow ended up being more than the sum of its parts, the sextet at the end removed because it conflicted with the huge themes they mistakenly attributed to it, themes which although they were far from the mind of mozart himself nonetheless brought the whole thing into a higher, more spiritual realm than was initially intended.
I only call it Catholic socialism because there's no name for what I'm really talking about, namely the long process of the Church assimilating what it can of modernist philosophy, not to become modernists themselves but to initiate the bursting of the frame of medieval scholasticism, thus providing the final missing piece to the dialectical puzzle that is the relationship between metaphysics and quantum mechanics, where the universal and the particular meet, and where God is.
Now behave yourself and I might not excommunicate you from the new post-cyberpunk Ecclesiastical sacerdotal-distributist monarchy of the World to Come amen.

If you are intelligent, you wouldn't be a brute, just a strong guy.

Brute by definition demands idiocy

I'VE SEEN OVER 20 ANIMES AND NONE OF THEM TOP GURREN LAGANN

Because for some reason the smart physical combatant role has been pushed to the realm of villainy because it's more believable when the evil overlord in plate armour is also smart enough to lead his men and crush the manipulations of his required evil vizier/lead sorceror/whatever you wanna call it.

Sorry for non Sup Forums related image but he fits the descriptor too well

Also to people saying brutes can't be smart
>implying a character needs to overthink combat when he could just relish throwing himself into the melee and crushing his enemies on pure instinct

>no true scotsman
whatever. not reading that dumb shit.

The problem is that "brutish characters" get old fast. They have very limited development potential and will, without exception, just end up as le dumb (dorky at best) muscle whose only contributions to the plot is using their strength or fighting skills when needed, rotting on the sidelines any other time.

Make them smart, and they're no longer brutes, they may have an epiphany after a long period of self-reflection and become warrior-monks but that's still not a brute.

After all there really is no true scotsman.

Because people normally don't get super buff like that unless they are a bodybuilder.
When you have free reign to design your characters you usually don't make them unrealistically buff unless you're trying to show their emphasis on physical strength. Thus character design of being unrealistically buff and super smart is pretty rare.

read chinkshit or western fantasy if you want strong+smart MCs

nipshit is all generic self-insert garbage targeted at people who are objectively failures at life

their societal bent toward lack of personal ability/not wanting to stand out also plays a large part

>anime communism memes

stop please
