How the fuck do they do it? Humiliated the British not once but twice, repelled Soviet invasion and lead to the collapse of the USSR.

Graveyard of Empires

portrait of a british last stand after being utterly humiliated by Afghan tribesman

its called mountains....see switzerland

its called knowing your terrain better than the invading enemy, and then deploying guerilla tactics.

its also called having men who are 100% loyal to your country and unwilling to give up to the invaders.

for an opposite case, see how easily the USA took over hawaii.

for a similar case, see how hard it was for the USA to take over vietnam and cuba.

incompetent leaders + demoralized/undisciplined invading army = harder to conquer the local populace.

mountains, hard to maintain proper supply lines, and the mujahideen are fucking beasts when it comes to fighting.

Your tanks can't move unpredictably making them sitting ducks, your planes can't see/engage shit through the bush and in caves, your men are scared, easily lost and disoriented, exposed with nothing but hiding places and high ground around them.

It's called being supplied by the guys you're fighting

they run into the mountains to hide, then come out again once the other side thinks they've won

Mountains, knowing the terrain, and the fact that the CIA was backing the Mujahideen. Also by 1979 the USSR was becoming more and more weaker by the minute and by the mid 1980s there was so much bullshit and corruption on every part of the USSR that there was no way it could have ended well for them.

When your army does not fear death, even longs for it, your enemies don't stand a chance.

Afghanistan has a lot of potential, but conflicting interests of Iran, Pakistan, Russia, China, and Israel keep it in it's current state.

God bless Trump though, his army is slowly removing the Paki scum. Something Obongo was too much of a cuck to do.

natural born fighters in some of the harshest terrain that only they can truly master.

Interviewed a member of the mujahideen who was in his early teens when the Soviet engagement began.. im thoroughly convinced these guys cant be defeated in / around the khyber pass

Pathan here, what everyone else said about being supplied by foreigners and using guerrilla tactics is correct. If you want to go a bit deeper there is a cultural aspect as well. The culture there is extremely patriarchal and based on honor, maintained through violence. On top of this there is a bases for "blood and soil" as well. If you wana look more into it you can google Pashtunwali.

This culture leads to some good stuff like ethnic unity, defending your land, preventing degeneracy and keeping women in line. But it also leads to other bad stuff like generational blood feuds, women getting acid attacked, and little boys getting but fucked. So I guess pros and cons.

Good thing no one else is currently wasting their time there hey

We eventually beat them actually.

>Pathan here,

You lot caused my country no end of trouble.

this. in their culture to be proud fighters and defenders of their land.

Muslims do not fear death.

logistics.

Well Im Pathan and American so I guess Im troublesome two times over. Sorry bud!

Americans were no trouble at all. Pathans were a fucking nightmare.

It's like if you never played chess more than 3 times, and a smart kid challenges you to a game. You could punch him in the head and say "I WIN" but you play because he's a kid.
