The amount of increased government involvement it'll take to have them responsible for purchasing the food, keeping record of possible allergies for recipients of food, and distribution/logistics to each individual will be staggering in comparison to whatever improved wholesale prices the fed will get from buying the food themselves.

This was never intended as sole sustenance. This was intended to be SUPPLEMENTAL. Back in the day you'd get a box with staples such as cheese and peanut butter, etc. Today we have people using EBT SNAP program, the WIC program, free school breakfasts and lunches, meals on wheels, plus whatever is available locally through food banks and churches. These people are overfed at this point. It's why most of them are so fucking fat. Cutting the SNAP credit line and supplementing it with a box of food will be a call for accountability on many ends. But before any of this is done, I still say we need to weed all of the illegals out of the system FIRST. Then we'll be dealing with some real numbers going into any plans for reform.

This isn't that fucking hard. You update the SNAP benefits so it restricts what kinds of things you can buy at the store. Solves the same problem without adding MORE government that can barely handle shipping and distribution of your mail, much less boxes of food all over the country. Reduce fraud that way, not by showcasing how utterly incompetent the gov is by expanding into more purchasing & distribution.

I don't see this happening, because my industry (grocery sales) will lobby against it. The store I'm an assistant manager at makes over 40% of it's monthly profits from food stamps and other welfare. If that got cut in half, shit, we'd go out of business.
