How come so many people liked this film? All the animu youtube people were tripping over themselves to sing it's praise, and it's the top anime on my anime list.

I saw the film, and I enjoyed it, but I don't get how it's still seriously being hailed as the greatest anime movie of all time. I wanted to try opening some discussion about it and pick you guy's opinion on the film, and if you have some thoughts, why people hold it in such high regard.

I was really hyped to see this, and yesterday, when I did watch it, I felt a bit dissapointed. As you say, It's good, but it's not the best anime movie out there. I liked more 5cm/s than this one, and even The Garden of Words was better in my opinion.

>All the animu youtube people were tripping over themselves to sing it's praise, and it's the top anime on my anime list.
Fuck off back to wherever you came from, newfag.

People who claim that Kimi no na wa is the best film ever made are as retarded as the ones who think that this isnt BY FAR Shinkais best work work. Both parties suffer from some severe mental disability

>All the animu youtube people
Stopped reading there. Fuck off and kill yourself.

>MAL
>anime youtube reviewers
Now this is some cancer of high degree.

Yes, I watch youtube. I didn't say that they were the pinnacles of anime discussion, I simply commented on how almost everyone of them talked about the movie in high regard.

Kill yourself.

I wasn't exactly disappointed, I just didn't get all of the hype behind it. It was a pleasant little film, but yeah.

I personally prefer any of Mamoru Hosuda's films over it, but I'm sure that opinion would probably get me crucified in some circles. Hell, I'm sure liking Hosuda's films will get me bashed in some circles, but I don't mean to come off sounding like I'm bashing Kimi no na Wa either.

I haven't seen 5cm/s or The Garden of Words yet. Which would you suggest I check out first?

Why, exactly? Are you a fan of the film? Can you tell me why? I'm looking for legitimate discussion on it.

>All the animu youtube people were tripping over themselves to sing it's praise, and it's the top anime on my anime list.
Please fuck off and lurk 1-2 years before posting.

Garden of words is fucking dank, just don't take it at face value.

Can someone stop fucking bringing up the god damn youtubers and give an actual opinion as for why everyone liked this movie so much? I only referenced them because literally every single one of the note worthy fucks mentioned this damn movie as a masterpiece. Did I say they were the end all be all of discussion? No. I'm looking for opinions. Not "fuck off" because you don't like them or their opinions. This post wasn't about them, except in the capacity that they make videos about anime. If you think they're hacks, cool. I simply wanted to reference how EVERYONE was talking about this film.

You don't belong here. Fuck off back to wherever you came from.

We don't even mention e-celeb shit here. If you'd have lurked you would've known.

I really haven't heard too much about it, this threat is actually the first I've heard of it from anyone, though I feel like I saw a trailer for it a while back...

>plotholes
>terrible music choices
>no reason for characters to love each other
>terrible humor that is repeated too often
>generic character designs
>felt like it ended 3 times
That flick was garbage

I'm among the "Having watched 1000+ anime" club, and I've still never seen it. I'll get around to it eventually I guess...

So, because I mentioned something that you don't like, you wont provide me with an actual response to the original question? Gotcha. Thanks for the discussion.

I don't see why it's really something to get your panties in a bunch over. They talk about anime, just like this board does. They're definitely probably lukewarm in their opinions, but this line of discussion is taking away from the original question. I just wanted to know peoples opinions on the film, and their reasons for why they think the film was so successful overall, and why people are hailing to as the greatest anime film ever.

No, it's has more to do with you being unable to think for yourself, so no one is going to bother to give you an actual response.
Ask said youtubers and MAL.

I was just annoyed by Shinkai's 4 FUCKING INSERT SONGS.

Like damn you ruined it with that shit. Garden of Words insert song hit way harder at the end. The scene with this song youtube.com/watch?v=nPwCtsLhYto was really good since Shinkai was clearly giving a wink to his audience here but at that point of movie I was groaning cause of yet another insert song. It's not very overrated but still I was a bit disappointed because my expectations were too high

it's a stupid crywank movie about romance

of course normies eat that shit up

in case you didn't realize, watching annie may has become as mainstream as masturbating to cartoons

I have already stated my own opinion on the film. I was asking to get other peoples opinions and open discussion. This board is for discussing anime right?

It's only like 46 minutes, highly recommend.

I liked Garden of Words better than 5 cm, but they're both pretty good.

5 cm is kind of vignette style which I didn't like and it's not a tearjerker or anything. It just gives you despair.

The buildup of Garden of Words and then that final scene with the insert song is 10/10. So I honestly recommend that first. But either choice isn't bad.

You need to go back.

Agree.

I definitely vibe with your response on the climax's of the film. It had A LOT of them.

It's a pretty good watch, but I just don't see it as becoming such a huge craze.

I can understand that. The music itself, I enjoyed, but there really was a lot of "Insert" music, for specific scenes and such.

I suppose that's true, huh? A lot of people really do watch these days. Do you feel like there's any specific reason why they eat it up so much?

Because the Japanese made a good evaluation

I'll do that. Thanks a lot for the response.

I'll check out both very soon; Thank you for the recommendation.

A good evaluation? What do you mean exactly?

>the animu youtube people
>the top anime on my anime list.
You don't belong here. Fuck off and kill yourself.

Speaking of Japanese as "funny" foreigners also said it was "funny" accordingly

Typical trash anime acclaimed highly by an even trashier fan base. Don't worry OP, just give it another year or two and nobody will even remember it.

Shinkaifags will tell you to "kill yourself" or "fuck off" without giving you a real argument because they know that Kimi no na wa is medoric

...

shit taste

>This board is for discussing anime right?
Correct and the opinions of some shmucks from Youtube, twittwat, narutosex.hatson.com and even Sup Forums is not anime discussion. Discussing people's opinions on Sup Forums have always led to one conclusion that isn't worth repeating in daily threads.

Because a boy falls in love with a girl.

Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.

But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

I blame the meme.

Already a thing.

I posted my opinion in the other thread, but I guess I'll post it here too.
The fact that they set up Mitsuha's and Taki's bond, the most important development in the film, through an AMV style 3 minute montage makes me not really care for their relationship at all. It still feels like they barely even know each other through the rest of the film which caused a huge disconnect between me and the emotions of the film
Consequently, I can't help but feel nothing during important events involving their bond afterwards. Even when the credits started rolling, to me they felt like strangers rather than lovers.

...

There he is. There he goes again.

Look everyone he posted it once again. Isn't he just the funniest guy around. Oh my god.

I can almost see your pathetic overweight frame glowing in the dark lit by your computer screen which is the only source of light in your room giggling like a little girl as you once again type your little keit-ai thread up and fill in the captcha.

Or maybe you don’t even fill in the captcha, maybe you’re such a disgusting NEET that you actually paid for a Sup Forums pass so you just choose the picture.

Oh we all know the picture, the uh epic flip phone isn’t it? I imagine you, little shit, laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos onto the floor.

But its ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh that’s right, did I fail to mention? You live with your mother! You’re a fat fucking fuck up and she’s probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all god damn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on Sup Forums posting about a shitty fanfic.

Just imagine this, she had you and then she thought you were going to be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand and then you became a NEET. A pathetic keit-ai fag NEET. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can’t even talk try to you because all you say is “FINDS A WAY FINDS A WAY FINDS A WAY.”

You became a parody of your own self. And that’s all you are. A sad little man laughing in the dark by himself as he prepares to indulge in the same old dance that he’s done a million times now.

And that's all you'll ever be.

>#1 in the Japanese box office for 14 weeks, 13 weekends
>Earns 20 billion yen and counting to surpass Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Japan
>Reached 10 billion yen 9 days faster than Frozen
>Wins LA Film Critics Award
>Has become the no. 1 highest-grossing Japanese movie in China
>Has become the no. 1 movie in Thailand
>The film immediately topped Korea's box office opening on 555 screens all around the country which is a new record for the Japanese film.
>Also dominated China breaking the all-time records for the most advance tickets sold and the fastest film to reach 100 million yuan ($ 14 million or 1.7 billion yen), with the first 100 yuan earned in just the film's opening day.
>The film also dominated the charts of Hong Kong and Taiwan becoming the number 2 and top highest grossing Japanese film on the respective countries
>Inexplicably jumps 41% in the Japanese box office and climbs from 7th place to 3rd place in one week
>Still in the top 10 in the Japanese box office towards the beginning of 2017
>Now grossed US$353.3 million.
>Surpasses the box office gross of Spirited Away (US$289.1 million), making it the highest grossing anime film of all time.
>Is approved by Shinzo Abe and used by Cool Japan to spur tourism in Japan.

So this is meme magic. Not bad.

Why did SAO, AoT and OMP became so insanely popular? There, you have the answer.

...

But that's already airing.

It has nice scenery porn.

I think its a very fun movie and better than most of what Shinkai has put out so far. 5cm arguably has more raw and genuine emotion in it but Kimi no Na wa was structurally and narratively superior.

People who say it's the greatest film ever are probably the same who call Spirited Away the greatest ever - well meaning in their judgement but limited in their anime experience. Normalfags essentially.

>normies
>>>/reddit/

And people wonder why Sup Forums has turned to shit with all the moron ledditurds and youtards getting spoonfed left and right.

Kimi no Na wa isn't bad, but how about a genuinely excellent recent anime film that you probably haven't heard of instead: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_This_Corner_of_the_World_(film)

Shaggy Rogers falls in love with Velma Dinkley.

Fuck off.

This has as much to do with Kei-tai as Bleach has to do with Ghost Slide. Fuck off.

It's a fun love story with enough comedy, drama, and conclusion, to satisfy normies and the hardest critics alike.
Beautiful animation, great pop songs, not too complicated. And you got a box office phenom.

If you want a deeper film with better character study, watch Koe no Katachi.

You mean if you want a pretentious, shallow joint that successfully fooled kyoanifags and twittards into thinking it was any good, watch KnK.

Maybe some people remember what it was like to be young and in love. IRL you can't bring the dead back, but these sorts of second chance what ifs really do resonate with a lot of people. When Taki read Mitsuha's name amongst the victims in the Tiamat disaster it really hit me hard because I remember reading my girlfriend's obituary in the newspaper and it made me feel more f'd up than usual. You can bet your ass I would go to some far off town, climb a mountain and into some dank cave and drink spitsake for a second chance. Life ain't like that though, but sometimes a bit of escapism is nice.
