I do believe it was Togashi reaching pretty hard to find a way to keep the clown alive, and that he shows some degree of favoritism towards him. He wrote some "interesting" things about how he once thought about writing him into the Chimera Arcs conflict but decided against it in the end.
Why doesn't shalnark have an on-death trigger, with his nen he could push autopilot even more since he's not going to need the body any more.

There's literally nothing wrong with that unless you're an autist who thinks battle shounen must be medically accurate.
If a character's ability is exactly to be immune to poison or grow claws then yes, I expect him to do just that. However, Hisoka's ability is rubber and gum nen. Rubber and gum bringing a corpse back from the dead IS an asspull.

You say it's bad because you don't like it, I say while it was a stretch it has opened up a few more interesting plot options that Togashi will hopefully take advantage of.
