Am I too retarded to understand whats supposed to be funny about this? I mean, the art direction and animation of certain parts are downright impressive, but what part of this show is supposed to be funny/amusing?

For a 24 episode show, it's 6 episodes rule.
Your filename says 4, watch 2 more and then comeback.

There no such rule for a gag based show that has hardly any connection between episodes. It only applies when theres buildup and the episodes are connected. e8 in this is as much of a stand alone episode as e2 or e5. Besides, I've forced myself to watch 8 episodes of this and still dont get the appeal. Do people watch it because of the animation and art? I thought KyoAni was bad before but this is even less amusing than LuckyStar and MaidDragon. Quite the accomplishment.

Yes.

It's all Jap humour.

What are all the other shows that focus on comedy then?

literally 2deep4u

GabDrop

You have shit taste if you're really having THAT much difficulty trying to appreciate this glorious anime.

>inb4 reddit spacing
>inb4 "waah stop liking what I don't like"
Fuck off. Nichijou is objectively THE BEST SoL of all fucking time.

Your dead inside

Why do you still use reddit spacing when you yourself pointed it out.
You convinced me to never watch this show, hope that was intentional.

Thinly veiled KyoAni hate thread?

How can we convince you to never come back?

If you go back to where you belong you will never see me again.

I have never been on reddit and I am not that other user
I just think it would be nice if you left and never returned. I don't really care if you use other websites. All I care is that you don't use this one.

>there are people who still cannot get into absurdist comedy because they think it has to be comedy first over absurdist

It has plenty of meaningful messages if you watch it all the way through.

Nah, Id just have made that if I wanted to.

Whats there to appreciate? Nano and Hakase have got to be the least dymanic and funny character duo I've ever witnessed.

By this logic you have to watch over 150 episodes of Naruto before deciding to drop it.

Not everybody enjoys Japanese puns and in-jokes user.

If a show has too many episodes I drop it before I even watch it

But the meaningful messages. You actually learn something if you watch all of Nichijou.

However,

that's

not

reddit

spacing

now

is

it?

Spoiler me, what do I learn?

friendship is magic

I loved it but I'm a weirdo lol

Don't worry, OP. I didn't find it funny at all either. The SoL bits are great though, and I managed to finish it just for those. The rest of it was pretty hard to sit through though. ESPECIALLY the shit with the zeppelin or whatever it was.
I tend to prefer dialogue driven comedy like Joshiraku or Tesagure, so Nichijou was a complete miss for me.

Nichijou is about the infinite complexity of ordinary things. An awkward moment at Starbucks is exploded into a dissection of the meaning of life.

And what part of that has any comedic value?

All of it

Considering that's when Shippuden starts, then sure.

Forgot what board I was on for a second there.

The part where you relate to Yuuko completely failing at basic social interaction in an unfamiliar environment without it making you feel like shit like Watamote does.

Even eromanga sensei is more funny than Nichijou

Holy fuck I'll fight your black ass if you don't delete that shit right now, partner.

Konosuba

>shows that have more comedic value and do a better job at pulling the gag format
cromartie
tanaka kun
non non
usami painting apples
osomatsu

And there are plenty more. This is a fact.

>non non
What? That's anything but gag.

>shows that do that and are even half as well animated
oh

>this is even less amusing than LuckyStar

Shill with shit taste confirmed.

Well, this might just be my personal opinion what what exactly does animation add to the genre? Nichijou certainly looks great, but outside of that it simply is bad. If visuals trump anything else then Kimi no na wa must truly be the best anime feature ever since it undoubtedly is one, if not the most impressive looking work in the medium. So is it the animation and art direction that people like it for? Does it get a freepass because of that?

I don't think anyone has ever claimed that Nichijou is exceptionally funny. You're right, there are comedies out there that tell better jokes. But this might be the wrong medium for you if you're having difficulty understanding what's enjoyable about watching good animation.

Welp, thats something new for me. A KyoAnifag who can actually admit that the studios works are badly written and only have their animation. Cheers

Well, I don't think I said any of those things, but okay. Have fun with your studio war nonsense.

>cromartie
>tanaka kun
>non non
>usami painting apples
>osomatsu

but all does shows sucks

I would say its less funny and more enduring. Theres very few scenes that had me laughing out loud but I almost always had a passive grin on my face.

Is it really hard to understand that people enjoy the show for more sophisticated elements than just the comedic value that you're subjectively narrowing your judgment upon?

Nichijou has its comfy moments along with the subtle messages about life that play out differently between skits. They might not be necessarily funny to everyone nor will anyone adapt to that comedy fashion, but you'd have to be some kind of no-fun-allowed edgelord to not be able to see the rich life lessons and emotional values that the show portrays in each episode.

And for the record, Kimi no na wa is a great anime feature because of more than just the visuals. The crafting of the story, the direction blending with the music and narrative, etc... Shows and movies don't just get highly praised for the surface level, you know.

Yes.

Deep, cultural humor.

>Is it really hard to understand that people enjoy the show for more sophisticated elements than just the comedic value that you're subjectively narrowing your judgment upon?
A show without plot, good audio design, any form of character development or a linear story sure as hell needs to kick the jokes out of the park to have any form of value, yes. Or do you go to the movies to watch Transformers because the pictures are pretty? Nichijou has no sophisticated elements outside of its animation, since it removed all other elements from the equation due to its format. If it isnt funny, then it only has its looks. And if it only has its looks, then its basically Transformers.

>The crafting of the story, [...] etc
Bloody masterpiece is it with dozens of illogical actions and borderline plotholes.

>Shows and movies don't just get highly praised for the surface level, you know
Definitely not, see the shows and movies the average person considers good. Pinaccles of writing of directing.

Yea you are

Based on your linear thinking, I can only say that it is not Nichijou's flaw that it does not appeal to your individual standards of comedy or anime-viewing for that matter. Like said, this may be the wrong medium for you if you are so quick as to claim Nichijou is "without any form of character development or a linear story".

>dislike a show that has blatant flaws outside of its animation
>be told that you simply dont like the medium even though having watched more than eighthundred shows already
Youre making this really hard for me to not believe that this about KyoAni and its fanbase's delusions

What exactly do you want to prove here? That Nichijou is bad because its not funny to you and therefore it doesn't deserve praise? There's already enough shitposting threads that sprout the same thing every once in a while, and really, it's fine if you want to believe that. But there are also people who keep telling you about the good side of things to like and praise about the show, yet you're just brushing them off under your own criteria and closed judgment of the show. I really think you could give this show another chance so you can see its merits, but I doubt that would ever be the case.

Have you considered that maybe your IQ isn't high enough to enjoy some anime?

OP please don't do this. Stop while you are ahead. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT watch another episode of this garbage.

Hakase Nano part annoying as fuck, it's get better in 2nd Cour when Nano start going to school

PriPri, the pinnacle of writing. Thank god the weekly episode charts exist so I have an easier time understanding the sophisticated story.

But thats not even true. I acknowledge the stellar animation and art direction, but that simply isnt something that, on itself, makes a show exceptional. Admitting that it isnt funny basically wipes away the only reason for this show to exist, doesnt it? I dont even have to brush things under the rug because outside of a) animation and b) comfy moments nothing was stated in favor of this mess. Then the show would still fail in regards to writing.

Do you reckon that I'd like the second cour more like this guy suggests? Is there actually more comedic value and less shoddy writing than in the first 8 episodes?

>Kimi no na wa must truly be the best anime feature ever since it undoubtedly is one, if not the most impressive looking work in the medium
Just popping in to say that I seriously hope you don't believe this. Your Name wasn't even the best looking film of 2016, or the best looking Shinkai film. Pick a better example next time.

>Your Name wasn't even the best looking film of 2016
Oh god, I think I know where this is going.

It's a very good comedy, but it's not even an above-average SOL. YKK, NNB, AzuDai, Aria: they're good SOL series.

>Tesagure
My African American brethren.
Takahashi Aoi is a miracle.

Its physical comedy, if you don't like physical comedy then you're probably not going to like Nichijou.

...

It'd be much better if the series didn't drag the fuck out of what's essentially the same joke.

Alright, post your best comedy animes.

Also:

>No Gekkan Shoujo or Gintama

We should appreciate comedy genre more!

What? You afraid I'll say KnK looked better? In terms of animation fluidity, it did. In terms of aethetics and direction, KSnKn beats both.

Y'all need to drop the blind KyoAni hate. It's okay to admit they have stellar animation even if you think their shows are shit.

>physical comedy

Is this a way of saying "slapstick humour"?

six to one, half a dozen to the other.

>In terms of animation fluidity, it did
It did not, sorry user.

>In terms of aethetics and direction, KSnKn beats both
Kinda hard to comment since hardly anybody has seen it yet.

>It's okay to admit they have stellar animation
And in most cases people do. KnK simply wasnt better animated than Knnw

>if you think their shows are shit
Dont think theres much people need to think about. The vast majority of them are to anybody who a functioning brain. There are some outliers, but holy hell are they rare.

I don't understand.

Its a turn of phrase

6 is half a dozen, but some people say 6 and other people say half a dozen.

i'm saying yes, physical comedy is basicly slapstick.

No you aren't. Jap humor isn't particularly great. Most anime comedy shows are trash with a few exceptions like nichibros, osomatsu, cromartie.

It is funny but only to people who can appreciate japanese aesthetics, zen humour, wabi sabi, japanese-language puns...

I get really tired of people who claim that the humour is derived soley or even remotely out of sheer "lol this random thing happens". In zero scenes does the mangaka resort to something random occurring to facilitate humour. It is all woven into a style and personality of humour that is characteristic of the author and intentional and calculated and considered. This series tends to be incredibly devisive for reasons you mentioned: The animation is top notch - its often adroable, "moe", - its happy happy fun time but without the need to invoke pornographic overtones. It's genuine fun. The characters and their behavior are amusing, and despite what a lot of fuckwits say about the show, the source from which it derives its humour isn't some simply misapplication of the title in relation to the content, namely that it is "everyday life" but "oh wow its not everyday life at all because robots and girls with guns and what not ! What a clever simple fucking juxtaposition of two opposing concepts! LOOLOLOLOL ITS NOT WHAT THE TITLE SAYS IT IS!!!!"....

Nichijou, the japanese word, means 'day to day life'. It's about the seemingly insignificant events of the days that go by us unnoticed or unremembered. It's not about common-ness or normalcy. "ITS EVERYDAY LIFE BUT BY GOLLY THERE ARE ROBOTS AND DEER AND JEE WIZZ ITS SOOO NOT EVERYDAY HAHAHAH" is the back jacket for all the fucking manga and it makes me want to vomit.

The author has a proper appreciation for zen style and buddhism in general as might be apparent through Mai and her proclivities. The stories often have a "surprise" element which is characteristic of the zen tales in which monks suddenly achieve satori. There is a proper thread of style and intention through the whole show. And like a proper Nipponjin, it's sugoku kawaii.

>It did not, sorry user.
No, it did. Sorry if you were impressed by Shinkai's blandest film to date. KnK at least HAD aesthetic choices, even if they weren't that great.
Hope you enjoy KSnKn when you watch it. Good luck with Nichijou.

>I dont find it funny, therefore it isnt and anyone who does is wrong

>KnK at least HAD aesthetic choices
That has nothing to do with animation fluidity.

Yeah that's generally how it works for everything.

Nichijou's humour is all connected animation techniques and audiovisual cues such as staging and lighting. This is what makes a well constructed comedy, not something as trivial as "it makes me laugh".

>what does good animation add to anime?

are you even a real person

Anime is not a genre, sorry.

>what does good animation add to a genre of animation?

Here you go, faggot, my corrected sentence.

To an action anime? A lot. To a show without substance? Not much, since it still lacks substance. Its the same reason we shit talk shows like SnK, isnt it?

Hmm...that's a fair point. However, the content still reflects what is going to be animated. I'm reminded of a daoist proverb: "When the wrong man uses the right means, the right means work in a wrong way."

For me, the source content of nichijou has the right means. Kyoani was the right man for the job.

Good animation in anime is a big part of what makes an anime good. If the story is shit then sure its also going to drag down the quality animation.

But going back to nichijou, the interaction was funny amusing enjoyable, in my esteemed opinion. It was a good thing on top of a good thing.

Awesome, thanks for letting us know we should disregard anything you have to say.

>The author has a proper appreciation for zen style and buddhism in general as might be apparent through Mai and her proclivities.

I've been noticing that too again in my rewatches, and I think it stretches beyond just Mai as well. It's not just the Japanese aesthetics, but the way that the absurdist humor is split amongst reality-defying exaggerations (the high school cast), sci-fi weirdness (Shinonome cast), and other kinds of strange areas that deliver that very theme on the different perspectives of the ordinary life and what it means to the characters and the audience. Everything seems to appear out of balance, and yet everything is interconnected in some way.

And like you said, one of the key highlights of the show is the absolute absence of fanservice while remaining entertaining for a wide audience. Just pure comfiness with some food for thought and a happy outlook of life.

Unfunny shit with forced animation.

Yes, that is a keen observation, the interconnectedness of seemingly disparate elements.

What I find interesting is that within a very short time, you stop questioning the origin of nano and hakase and sakamoto, which are most certainly incredibly absurd, and thereby ascend to a more open narrative. That falls in line also with what I was saying about how the comedy is not in the least bit derived from the fact that the things happening are improbable and fantastical, but rather that the author just uses sci-fi / fantastical elements simply as a stylistic desire. He doesn't feel the need to explain any of these things, and for good reason. While watching it you don't have some kind of "BUT THAT DOESN"T MAKE SENSE" reaction. The point is the way these characters interact, whatever their seemingly abnormal context. And also, its just Style. With a capitol S. Style. Like life.

"In the scenery of spring, nothing is better, nothing worse; The flowering branches are of themselves, some short, some long"

The art is really cute, everything looks so soft

yeees, I love, for instance, hakase sleeping on her rabbit pillow with sakamoto wrapped around her

with a goddamn "Santa Claus" book at her fingers

I feel the direction destroys the comedy

comedy is supposed to be fast-paced slapstick but the animation slows the comedy down and destroys the comedic timing.

...

>uses the word "glorious"
It's a nice anime, but fuck off you tumblr refugee.

>Am I too retarded to understand whats supposed to be funny about this?
Yes.

Azazel-san

Cromartie is shit, Detroit Metal City is better

It takes some effort to get the humor.

That's what makes it flawed.

It's decent. It's still much funnier than Konosuba though.

They both have their strong points.

yep it just happy and fun at all times, rewatchability is up there with K-On and Azumanga

except for the bit where they "help" blue-hair with her manga, that was unbearable
