Why is it so hard for Jap studios to script out a solid story?

Pic very related.

So, so many lazy plot points and amateur characterization happening here, in what could have been a really good story. And it seems like I'm always encountering these kinds of problems in anime. Is it really that hard or expensive to have the director sit down with a pen and paper and say "Okay, how can we make this good?" The cost of production would otherwise remain exactly the same. It's just that extra directive effort to make sure that the plotpoints aren't super hammy, that the characters have a little depth to them, that their actions and decisions make sense in a given circumstance. Why is that so hard?

>Bomber head and his adventures
>Main girl was actually 4 years old
>Other guy ends up teaming up with the loli zombie
There were some novelties in that story.

Dunno, make a good anime yourself you arrogant fucking shit.

Yea that was the series strongpoint, definitely. It had some great characters. And there were some great and especially genuinely funny moments like pic related. The animation director had real chops for comedy. But beyond that, what can you say about the actual development of these characters in the story?

>Their motivations are shaky and don't make sense
>Plotpoints are often crudely nonsensical

For example, take a look at this:
>Main girl was actually 4 years old

You can tell this was a decision that was made after the beginning stages of the story had already been written. Because in her first scenes, she is portrayed as much more of an adult. Her first line is her coldly rejecting hammerhead's gentlemanly offer to help: "I've already found a guide." And her exchange with a drunken favaro when he asks for a kiss is also fairly adult like, if clueless. But it was necessary, to get her and favaro "together on adventure," to have her be completely dumb and oblivious to any kind sense. Otherwise the character motives and relationships would have had to have been more complex, and it was just easier to go the "Well she's just an idiot" route for the plot. So that's why she was then made into a literal child. But because of her initial scenes, this characterization is very confusing for quite a long time in the story, and confusing in a bad way. Not: "mysterious," just: "this doesn't make sense." And there's many things like that in this story. Just lazy writing.

I honestly think I could do better, without losing the audience's interest, and without increasing the budget. It just seems like there's alot of "I don't give a fuck, nobody cares" going on in the storyboarding phase. And maybe they're right. Maybe I'm just a naive idealist. Maybe nobody gives a fuck if the plot is riddled with ridiculous coincidences, or vague, unbelievable, nonsensical, and plotwise-convenient character motives. Plebs!

Gothic loli a cute

Japanese anime market isn't known to be the upper crust of society, amd studios have to produce content on an extremely tight budget and schedule. They do what they think will sell best with minimal risk

Write a book then, you fucking loser.

Make a kickstarter for your amazing Idea.

Honestly most of the reason we are here is become of minimal risk from the norm and pandering when it comes to anime. If you ever manage to change that, let me know.

If you think that's bad then watch Virgin Souls. Also despite its flaws, Genesis was a lot of fucking fun and had a great main trio so I forgave it's writing shortcomings.

>the reason we are here is become of minimal risk from the norm
Come agian?

>I forgave its writing shortcomings
It's the good ones that are the most disappointing

Why are the new episodes delayed?

Why are you so angry, friend? You must know what I'm talking about.

You're not an idealist, you're an idiot who has no idea how much work it takes to write a story, never mind coordinate a team to animate one.

Why just limit it to Jap studios?

>you're an idiot who has no idea how much work it takes to write a story, never mind coordinate a team to animate one
The animation isn't the problem, friend. It's the story exclusively, most of the time. That's why I'm confused. It takes one or two people to write a good story, and that's it. There's no expensive coordination of talent and material needed. You just sit down and look at the progression of events, and the character motives and developments, and ask yourself "Does this make sense? Is this GOOD?"

For god's sake, in episode 2 or 3, when favaro sells out Amira to the guards, the HORSE makes the decision to go back and save her. THE HORSE. Think of all the character stuff that could have been done in that dynamic. Wasted! They even put in a shot of Amira glancing at the horse, showing that she recognized it was its decision to bring Favaro to her rescue. Why!? Is it so hard to add that extra detail to a character, the setting, and his decisions? Like I said, that's just super lazy.

I'm still depressed about claymore

Because all I watch is Japanese media. Almost exclusively. It's all I know

If you dislike Genesis, be sure to avoid Virgin Soul. It takes the SnB series and strips it from all of its good points.

love it when someone without a shred of creative experience makes one of these threads

You missed the point. Working with a team complicates things. But mainly writing is just hard. That's why most books, TV shows, movies, and everything else has these same problems. It's nothing specific to anime.

>it only gets worse from there on
Wow dejavu

I don't see your "love" spurring you to write anything thought provoking. Prove me wrong!

I'm embarassed for the one girl in the virgin souls threads thag pretends the show isn't shit because the "romance" between bishounen Hitler and dragon cock swallower makes her wet. It's fucking embarassing.

>Working with a team complicates things.
I guess I can imagine that these glaring flaws in the writing are somehow a product of scheduling pressures, but that's the only possible explanation I can think of. Nobody is that stupid, to think that people just aren't going to notice things like this.

I fear I missed her until now. Except it's this user.

>But mainly writing is just hard.
In S1 the attitude seems like "this is hard so we're just not even going to try whatsoever and just hope that nobody cares." I guess that's a viable strategy, though. It's just weird.

I could be wrong but if I remember right sports pushing it off the schedule. You would think that since the studios pay the broadcasting rather than the other way around they would have priority. Must not be a lot of money.

Surprised they haven't shat up this thread too.

You know not every romantic sentiment is directly correlated with hardcore porn addiction. Hard for you to imagine, I know. But true

Oh hey, she showed up after all. You forgot to mention fragile masculinity in your tumblr neofeminist post.

>not a single example or explanation

I don't know what you're talking about, bro. Shingeki no Bahamut is written pretty well.

>They do what they think will sell best with minimal risk and minimal effort

Fixed for you.

I will also add that they know they can get away with stuff like this because the die hard fans and weeaboos let them.

I gave multiple detailed explanations in the thread, actually. Look for the long posts.

>Well written
Lol you're so wrong it's funny

It's pretty sad that the consumer base is so braindead. Must be a side effect of being overworked, or 13

Great argument.

>multiple
You mean two.
>detailed
Sadly, no. You didn't.

No examples about how the writing is bad. You just didn't like something a character did.

You're not taking into account that the main girl was also a magical being, and her acting a little more maturely than a toddler is by far the least unbelievable thing about her.

>You just didn't like something a character did.
No, it's not a "subjective preference." Nice try, but you're clearly not grasping the reasoning here.

>You're not taking into account that the main girl was also a magical being, and her acting a little more maturely than a toddler is by far the least unbelievable thing about her.
>It's, like, all fiction bro! So that means nothing needs to be realistic!
This is a really tired and old argument. Ancient, and apparently recited from memory with no thought behind it. Arguing just to argue, for whatever bs personal reasons you have. Honestly I'm a little creeped out. But anyway, a fantasy setting doesn't mean the characters are exempt from needing to have a consistent portrayal and readily understandable development. That's true for any story. Their development and portrayal doesn't need to necessarily be "believably realistic," but it needs to be clear and consistent. And that's just not the case here. Again, it's not a matter of "preference or interpretation." There was no in depth thought given by the writers to the functionality of her magical-ness in regards to her persona. It's simply just a plothole. You're the only one in this thread insisting otherwise.

>No, it's not a "subjective preference." Nice try,
WTF are you doing? Do you want to explain your opinion, or do you want to be confrontational?

>This is a really tired and old argument.
You're not understanding what I'm saying. I'm telling you that you are nitpicking minor details and not actually looking at the big picture.

If you're, like, 16 or under I'm honestly sorry about what I said earlier. Please remember to lurk for two years before posting, and it really may be in your best interest to actually avoid this website until you're 18.

(Still) not an argument.

Stop watching anime.

It's an advertisement for mobage.

Is cheerios dead or cucked yet

wasnt meant to be, just an observation

It's supposed to be lazy and stupid that's how all tabletop rpg scenarios are. Bahamut is clearly an hommage to those. The story was never supposed to be deep or anything.
I know how you feel it makes me angry too whenever I see a huge production budget go to a subpar script. But really I can't blame bahamut for doing what it set out to do : harmless fun inspired by tabletop rpgs. It succeeded.
If you wanna be angry be angry at whoever wrote Kabaneri and SAO.

The source isn't good either.

>he watches anime for the story.

You don't?

It's all about the waifus and memes, Grandpa. Get with the times!

How old are you?

I'm 13 and what is this?

Watch more anime, plenty of good anime out there that isn't generic

You are complaining about an industry that makes money by pandering to kids, teens and manchildren.

You either learn to deal with it or move to a different hobby.
