I took 40 days out of society around Scotland. Camping, hiking, Fishing . I lost 90lbs / 6.4 stone in this time. Just me and my Dog. This gave me time to think of political and social issues, and the solitude seemed to help.
I also met a lot of people, and in my time walked between small towns, and a few cities. Ask me anything.
I had a 1 man tent that I carried with me, so I slept where ever was feasable, I did this late july and all of august last year. I had no technology with me outside of my bank card incase I needed to buy something, and for notes and thoughts I took a small notepad.
I made this thread because I was just thumbing through my notepad.

How many black people did you see?

2. Both in Glasgow.

How did you cope with midges?
Jace Sullivan
I'd burn slightly damp wood, the smoke keeps them at bay. At one point I had been int he 'wild' for 12 days, so I was smelling of BO, which also keeps them at bay.
Anthony Adams
How old are you? What did you eat and drink
Hunter Peterson
Any cute sheep pics?
Adam Walker
I've been in a similar situation but with a house, in the middle of nowhere. 2 years now. The solitude is a double edged sword, or at least it is after some time. I liked it too at the start.
Juan Ramirez
I am 32, married with 2 kids. I drank water from streams and rivers, I ate wild foods. Plants, fish, hare. Every day I had to be sure I had enough meat for my dog, so I stocked up on hare and rabbit when I could. Plenty of wild foods around most of Scotland, so I did some reading before I left on what was safe and what was not.
No tech with me. No phone, no camera, nothing. A bank card was the most advanced thing I had with me, unless you count the firesteel.
Nicholas Torres
Sounds comfy as fuck

I've been ok in my own company for years, but it can be hard to deal with at times. The internet can take the edge of, but I'd suggest meeting people of like mind when you can. Even if it's just a hobby thing.
Matthew Edwards
Did you have any prior survival experience or did you just wing it?
Jackson Bailey
From your interactions with the Scots ( I don't know if you were able to have such conversations.) But they self hating or were they proud of their people and wanted Scotland for the Scottish?
Gabriel Morales
Rural Scotland is lovely.
Have you ever visited Langholm? Its a border town but weirdly it is as Culturally Scottish as it gets.
Angel Butler
Did you boil the water user?
You don't want to drink water downstream from a sheep farm.
Nathan Johnson
I had done very little as a child. My dad had been inthe army for years, he was a para, so he wanted ot pass on some skills they had taught him like catching and skinning game, he thought it important, as do I. Before this the last time I had done anything like that was at about 17.
Well, I am Scottish, and in my experience most Scottish people when asked their nationality will say 'Scottish', not British. This being said, I met plenty of people who want to remain in the UK. I found plenty who wanted to remain in the EU, and found plenty for total independence.
I have not, in my travels I have tended to head north.
I'm sure I was never near a sheep farm in my travels, although I saw plenty of wild sheep. Most of the water I got came from streams on rocky hills and mountains. Once or Twice I bought water when I got to towns, just to be safe, other times I just collected rain water.

1. Did you bring anything to read? What was it?
2. Does Scotland have much trees for wood?
Parker Rogers
What did your wife & kids think about you skipping off? And why were you so fat?
Joshua Jenkins
did you fap at all during trip? how often?
Jack Taylor
>Ask me anything. why would I want to ask you anything? you did absolutely nothing of value. You just went outside. And you think that made you special? For fucks sake you're worse than a woman
go get a job or shoot some niggers then maybe you'll have something valuable to share with us
Jordan Martinez
Plenty of wood. I took some Terry Pratchett for escapism and John Milton's Paradise Lost.
Wife and kids were fine with it. The original plan was 15 days with my son, but he was only 7 at the time and backed out, spoke to wife. I have pretty hard depression and said I'd be gone at least 15 days, maybe more. She told me to take all the time I need. I was fat because I tend to be lazy, this was me forcing myself to not be lazy.
No. I gave up fapping about 3 years ago and just don't bother with it.
Leo Murphy
And did you keep the weight off? Did people in towns think you were a hobo?
Ethan Morgan
trim those edges Chong,please.

Scots speaks too much thought and I can't understand their accent

Scotland is the best country in the world.

I've got myself down to a comfy weight were it is no longer a problem, so I've managed to stay active and healthier than I was, although I could still improve. A few thought I was homeless, but the backpack and the dog + bank card end that thought process pretty quick.
Ask them to slow down if it's a problem. We're aware we speak very quickly and we don't mind if foreigners ask us to slow down as they find it difficult to understand us.
Ryan Richardson
>lost 90lbs in 40 days
holy fuck dude are you ok???
Justin Hall
Did it lift your depression a little? I know losing weight and doing sports helped me a lot, I can recommend it, also you should it healthier a huge game changer, modern food is crap, poisoned crap
Jace Bell
>the solitude seemed to help >I also met a lot of people
Fake and gay.

I'm fine. I was a genuine fat as fatass, and this broke my cycle. I had a terrible diet and was addicted to energy drinks. I looked at myself and saw the mess I was and the terrible example I was to my children. I took this time to fix myself and it worked.
I've yet to have a single suicidal thought since that day. I have some days where I feel down, but I just get on my bike and go a run as soon as I can, helps a lot.
I slept in the woods, I never slept in a house or a bed, the only constant company I had was my dog. I met people in the towns I passed through and some on trails in the forests. Meeting people doesn't break the long hours of being alone or sleeping outside. You're confusing terms, user.
Andrew Adams
how far was your round trip?
did you get around only by foot?
how did you catch the rabbits n stuff?
did you see any wild haggises?
Logan Kelly
I see, I heard that (albeit from perhaps inaccurate sources) that Scotland was exceptionally genocidal. I was hoping this was not the case as I have a particular fondness for Scotland (I know all Western Nations for the most part have this problem). I just wanted to hear how it was there though. I wish you all the best and Scotland all the best.
Josiah Morales
>how far was your round trip? I haven't actually tallied it up >did you get around only by foot? Mostly, but I took a few trains. Went from Glasgow to Arran, so that was a train + ferry >how did you catch the rabbits n stuff? Snares / Dog >did you see any wild haggises? Loads mate, but all female, can tell by the legs.
Aaron Sanders
go get impressed by a real man doing real things not a faggot who just went "wanderlust"
Jose Richardson
>I have some days where I feel down, but I just get on my bike and go a run as soon as I can, helps a lot. Glad to hear that user, stay healthy.
Jack Sanders
Thanks guys.
Gavin Walker
what else did you eat?
Eli Scott
As I said earlier, there are plenty of wild foods in Scotland from Acorns to Hazelnuts and just general plant life. Pine needles make a good tea that has a surprising amount of Vit C so that was good to find out before I left. Lots of wild berries too.
Rabbits and hares are aplenty. I was tempted to get a deer, but man, I'd waste most of it due to traveling and little to no knowledge of how to properly use it. So I didn't bother with that.
Joshua Jones
No problem, user. :)
Lucas Morris
legit jealous, keep living the dream OP
Christian Jones
Get a job faggot
Daniel Ramirez
I wish mate. Back to city life, working from home. I want to take 2 weeks a year with my son to do this on a smaller scale though. hopefully this year we can do it.
I work from home as a PenTester, I can work when I want, it's pretty relaxed and comfy. I cleared 30 days for this, and when I took extra, they didn't mind. Great company and very relaxed as long as I get back to work and let them know when.
Zachary Gray
What was the most profound thing you’ve learned about yourself during those 40 days?
Ryan Smith
That I am my own enemy. I get bogged down in the minutia of things which leads to unproductive reasoning. That while I have a job and make money, I was still a drain on my family and friends because of my negative way of thinking and analyzing things. My depression, my weight, my general world view were all well within my control and for years I had done nothing about it, and as a result I was dragging the people around me down. To make them happier people, I had to fix me, which is still my motivation for not slipping back, to be a good example to my kids and to make sure I am a positive force in my family and friends lives.
Brayden Reed
What type of doggo do you have? Any pics?
John Peterson
I never post images here of anything connected to me. Border Collie.
I'm considering doing this when summer comes around, been saving up a bunch of money for gear, might bring my dog as well to help with hunting, if I'm allowed On a scale from 1-10, how much would you recommend this?
Bentley Nguyen
What do you think Sup Forums needs to hear the most?

>President Trump has turned his back on Israel as the nation is invaded by a united arabic military force >A bloody race war has erupted in Europe and North America >Nationalism has made a huge comeback in Europe and national socialism is on the rise in multiple nations >Ebola returns as a huge threat to Africa, having spread like wildfire and claiming millions of lives Did I forget something?
Asher Hall
Small towns are the best. I'm doing the same right now. All I do is workout and focus on my work. Cities are full of identical people, no matter what country you're in.
What precipitated this change in yourself OP?
PS: I'm watching Rob Roy right now haha. Have you read the book?
