Post anime whose dubs was better than the subs (at least for english audiences)

...

Oh fuck you. That shit is horrible.

These dubs are better than any sub

Oh come on, I watch anime subbed 95% of the time and even I watched the dub. I literally have a hard time listening to the subbed version.

Yu yu Hakusho.
You know I an right.

Spice and Wolf

It's basically set in medieval Europe, plus the actor for Holo is actually really good in English.

...

GitS Stand Alone Complex

Major is good in both languages but it's the rest of the cast that really stand out. In Japanese, the men of Section 9 just sound like generic tough-guys but in English they have way better variety and more personality.

Completely agree

Why are there so many English sub threads? This is the third one I've seen in about an hour

no generals = more non general threads

...

The dub isn't terrible, but I feel like the japanese voice actors were better paired with the characters than the english ones.

really? "btw I have tuberculosis" was so bad.

>You picked the one where Anno voices a character
FUCK OUTTA HEAAAAA

newfag

Debatable

I felt the Jap delivery was really wooden, while the English actors really grew into their roles and exceeded their native counterparts in all the later season emotional moments

>This is a request thread
>Not an opinion thread

>gtfo
>google image and not a screencap
As if you had to make it any more obvious. Use the archive. The dub debate is settled.

You talking sht about my /smug/ folder?

>Use the archive

Well fuck, you could say that to almost any thread topic.

The point isn't to get recommendations its to argue and hear opinions.

The Japanese audio is better, but Eva really does from being watched without subtitles so you can take in all the visual artistry properly.

>this is the kind of person the mods on Sup Forums pander to
This board really lost its way

I miss generals

Even better English dubs like this one still suffer from stilted dialogue because of the need to sync it up to the visuals.

FMAB, Ghost Stories, Dragonball, Beck but only cause the engirsh is intolerable the dub itself isnt all that. Uhm, /thread

also now every time I rewatch I watch it dubbed because it just feels more polished. Misato sounds more like she should and Asuka's lapses into German sound very natural.

>Cowboy Bebop
Had only two decent English voice actors. Most of the secondary characters and even Faye were really bad. This is a common problem with dub lovers. They focus on one voice (in this case Spike) and have extreme tunnel vision, selectively ignoring all the other voices which are bad. But based on just that one voice, they claim it is one of the best dubs ever.

Even if you only focus on Steve Blum, he still didn't do as good of a job playing Spike as Koichi Yamadera did. Koichi has much better tone and range than Steve Blum does. He also pulls off that passive sarcastic character way better. Which is why he is commonly picked to play those types of characters in other shows like Togusa in Ghost in the Shell or Touya in CardCaptor Sakura.

But where the original Japanese really surpasses the dub is all the secondary/one shot characters. Being an episodic show, Cowboy Bebop lives and dies on the characters who show up in 1-2 episodes. And aside from maybe the guys in Mushroom Hunting, the Japanese voices just leave the English ones in the dust.

When you start to compare someone like Wendee Lee to Megumi Hayashibara, the whole dub vs sub argument becomes a joke.

Sword of the Stranger

this
especially for Botan

FLCL

overrated trash either way

>In Japanese, the men of Section 9 just sound like generic tough-guys
One is a gruff, gravely voice (the voice for Snake in Metal Gear Solid) and the other is a sarcastic but cheerful guy (the voice of Spike from Cowboy Bebop). How are either of these generic tough guys? They are about as iconic as you can get. And neither one sounds like a generic tough guy, which are usually played by someone like Wataru Tagaki (aka Aoki and Onizuka).

I watched the first episode and it's the worst voice acting I've heard in my life.

too bad the show itself blows dick

Savage.

I will say that I think the voice acting in Ghost in the Shell was okay. Not better than the Japanese, just better than what I expect from American dubs. I've also heard a lot of mexican dubs that are actually pretty good.

This, except for Kuwabara

Whatever shows I first saw dubbed. Except Sailor Moon, which was the show that got me to seek out the subbed version.

...

Here is a comprehensive list of dubs that are superior to subs:

take that back

That's still too many.

Is taste this shity even possible?

Your comedic genius forgot about Ghost Stories and Ninja Slayer

Seinfeld had a pretty good dub, cory in the house also comes to mind.

Cowshit bebop is bad, period.

...

dubs are only shit if funimation has anything to do with it

Usually i'd be inclined to agree, but their handling of raildex surprised me.

It's either really good or really shit, often the later

Anno's old man voice for a college kid was terribly miscast. Haven't watched the dub though.

Black Lagoon

>only one company made bad dubs
>ADV
>Viz
>4kids
>Manga
>Software Sculptors
>DiC

Legitimately kill yourself.

Really your entire argument boils down to snobbery and NOT MUH TYPE CAST ANIMU ACTORS

No offense.
I mean even the creators of cowboy bebop thought the dub was better then the original.

>I mean even the creators of cowboy bebop thought the dub was better then the original.
Why would the opinion of non-native English speakers matter?

because cowshit bebop is fucking awful

Shinji and Asuka were good in English, but as with so many English dubs the absolute shit tier quality of the secondary/background characters completely drains all sense of dignity out of the show.

It is truly truly truly horrific. I viscerally hate that dub. I can't believe that anyone who praises it isn't a nostalgiafag.
Even at points where the acting is okay, the voices themselves will be bad in the overwhelming majority.

>Really your entire argument boils down to snobbery and NOT MUH TYPE CAST ANIMU ACTORS
Actually, it comes down to comparing the tone and acting ability of the original actors to their western counterparts.

>I mean even the creators of cowboy bebop thought the dub was better then the original.
People say this over and over, but have never provided a source for when Watanabe or anyone else said it. Its repeated as much as people claim Kojima thought the western dub of Metal Gear Solid was better than the Japanese. Which Kojima later totally debunked by saying the Japanese voice for Snake is the definitive voice.

I'm willing to bet this comment is just something the western fanbase made up to further bolster their ideas that the dub was better.

>MUH TYPE CAST ANIMU ACTORS
You mean like Steve Blum and Wendee Lee?

Easy: Space Dandy

Their dub of Initial D is top tier, I don't care what anyone says.

The dub was soooo good.

Literally only ghost stories. And that's only because it was a joke sub for a trash show.

For me, that has to be

>Ghost in the Shell SAC
>Bepop
>Ghibli dubs
>Original Berserk
>Monster
>Dragonball
>Patalabor 2
>Black Lagoon
>Hellsing

Anyone who thinks the Baccano! dub is inherently better than the Japanese audio needs to kill themselves. The Japanese voices are perfect and the dub has maybe four amazing voices.

Clever. World class retort.
