It isn't though

Only people who like it are teenagers and braindead KEYfaggots

Shut up, faggot, It's still better than you're favorite anime

Because you surround yourself with shitty people.

I have only cried during or after a movie or anime a few times in my life. I don't know why, but I'm just that way. This show, however, left me in a pool of tears. It's in its own category. The characters are so deep, the plot is so captivating, and the entire thing is overflowing with emotions. If you're not sure whether to watch it, I'll be sure for you

IS it? Tell me it fucking isn't. It shouldn't be, it's fucking horrible. FUCKING horrible

...

It's an emotional show. It would have been better if it'd had 24 episodes, though.
The threads while it was airing were fun.

Because Kanadefags.

Because it's KEY you fucking retard. If you don't know that everything KEY makes is 10/10 you need to lurk more.

It isn't though, who the fuck are you listening to?

Because anime fans will rate anything that made them cry an automatic 10/10 regardless of actual quality. It can be the most emotionally manipulative piece of trash around, but never underestimate the average weeb's lack of good taste.

Also, a lot of the people who love this show are plebs, and this is the first show they see that's not some shounen action with teenagers that have super powers. It's the same reason people think Elfen Lied is "deep".

Babby's first melancholy.

The end of episode 10 still makes me cry like a little bitch though.

I mean, the entire point of that genre of anime is to get you to feel and experience intense emotion, I.E crying. If it does that, and does it often (and as such well) then isn't it a good product?

You rate a porn movie based on how "sexy" it is, and you rate this type of anime based on how much you cry.

I fail to see how a product that gets the exact emotion the view came to it for is bad or not a good/perfect product.

Because people today have a perverse and fetishistic obsession with intense emotions depicted in drama. A show is great if it gave me the FEELS. Nevermind the the moral or purpose of the story. People don't believe in that anymore.

You watch porn for porn, you watch feels for feels anime.

You rate porn on how hot it was, you rate feels anime on how much it made you feel.

It really isn't that hard of a concept.

>If it does that, and does it often (and as such well) then isn't it a good product?
After a while though you get jaded because these shows all pull the same shit and a lot of the time it feels pretty forced.

Ups and downs. Emotional roller-coaster with a great twist.

>not rating porn according to its plot, art, thought provoking dialogs and how it leaves you carving for a sequel
Just what kind of porn do you read?

>Babby's first melancholy.
Can confirm. Angel Beats was my first anime with "feels" involved. I cried like a bitch my first time watching it a long time ago.
I recently rewatched it though and didn't really cry at all, even found the ending pretty cringey and contrived.
I still love the soundtrack though. OP gives me shivers even now.

I bet he's talking about 3d

Angel Beats OP has the best song of all other OPs I heard and the anime is solid. They should've given it 26 episodes. Also, Tenshi.

It had a good OP. In fact, I want to listen to it right now.

Not when something follows a particular formula that's tried, tested, and true to make someone cry. That makes it come off as lazy.

Angel Beats had too many characters, mediocre animation for its time, and a formulaic structure. Why would I rate it highly just because I cried when I've seen other, better shows which also made me cry and succeeded in ways that this show failed to?

Charlotte is shit though

>Not when something follows a particular formula that's tried, tested, and true to make someone cry. That makes it come off as lazy.

It's not for the jaded viewer with years of experience user.

You're punishing it for doing the job it set out to do well. If they pretended that they were some deep brilliant piece of neverbefore seen art and lured in people like you and delivered what they deliverd then you'd have a point.

It's like how people swear up and down that Madoka is brilliant when it's nothing more then a deeply generic SO DEEP SO DAHK TWIST ON SOMETHING INNOCENT and using a sub shit tier yuri rip off of the big twist from a little known manga that was fairly popular on Sup Forums for years.

When people tell me how brilliant it is I feel fucking embarassed.
But they didn't.

its pretty good but it's no Clannad

...

...

Because autists like us have a big black hole that need's to be filled with feels and 2D waifus
Angel Beats cover feels

Alright. Let me put it this way then. Other than getting the emotional response that was intended, what else did this anime do that makes it 10/10?

There are many comedy movies I've watched that made me laugh so much I pissed my pants that were still shitty overall.

It isnt. The music and general sound direction, which is the stuff of legend, is.

>waifus
>s
Disgusting.

7/10 show up until the last few episodes where the staff realized that they only have 3 episodes left to work with and rushed everything to actual shit.

Then they tried to save face by forcing some sad tearjerking shit to happen during the last few minutes in the hopes that people watching will somehow completely excuse the shitty rushed ending and lackluster story just because the ending made them cry.

Spoilers: it worked

Making this a 1 cour show was such a crime. The pacing went to shit because they had to rush and cram a lot of shit in as few episodes as possible.

>great twist
>hurr it was MC's heart or some shit durrrr
>revealed through literal deus ex hypnosis

Alrighty

Babby's first emotional anime

As far as KEY stories go this one had some pretty funny episodes and the supernatural bullshit was not a cop out because it was a part of the premise, unlike Clannad for example.

Because despite being riddled with flaws and pretty shit when you look twice at it, it's still very effective at evoking an emotion response. It doesn't matter if you liked it or not, or how much of an emotionally stunted autist you are, the fact is that the majority of people who watched it we hit hard by the atmosphere and themes of the story. It's a piece of shit, but it's hardly irredeemable.

>Clannad
>spends plenty of episodes clearly foreshadowing the existence of the light orbs and the parallel world
>literally shows you bits and pieces of events detailing shit happening in the parallel world with the robot and the girl at the beginning of almost every episode
>despite not explaining it in full detail, does at least make an effort in making it clear that the light orbs grants wishes and shit, and are products of people's gratitude and strong emotion
>cop out
>not a part of the premise

It's clearly flawed but I enjoyed what I got. Mostly. That's the only reason why I liked it.

I really hate this notion that derivative works are inherently flawed compared to works that try to innovate or do something different. What is even wrong with following the same narrative structure? It may not work on you, but that doesn't mean others fail to get the intended emotional response from the works despite being fully aware of the derivative nature. If someone thinks a show is 10/10 it's 10/10 for them regardless of whether there are too many characters or whatever and there is no such thing as actual inherent quality

I still loose my shit at this episode. The sad insert song and slow motion.

Even if you were anime-only, I'll never understand how people like you thought the light orbs were a cop-out.

Were you faggots butthurt because Clannadman didn't have to live such a shitty fucking life and and can have a second chance after accepting that he no longer regrets meeting Nagisa and that he's enjoyed his time with her despite all the pain and sorrow that followed afterwards?

Were you people just conveniently skipping the few moments where they explain what the light orbs are and then complain when the light orbs cuts Clannadman a break at the end and gives him a happy ending because the light orbs "came out of nowhere and therefore is a cop out"?

Did you just want Clannadman to keep suffering or some shit?

The last person who tried to tell me that there's no such thing as inherent quality unironically liked Pupa.

I really liked it when I was an edgy teenager and hadn't seen shit yet, or been educated enough to care about things like continuity and plot holes.

On the surface it seems deep and creative, being largely carried by the excellent sound work. When you don't know or care about looking at anime deeply yet, it has this sensation of "feeling deep" without actually being deep, or making you think about it or work in order to appreciate it.

Basically it's getting your cake, and eating it too, but only if you also refuse to examine things deeper than the surface. And if you don't examine things deeply, how could that not be appealing?

>*tips fedora*
Angel Beats actually and unironically is the deepest show in the genre, I hope you understand that.

The last person who agreed with me on there's no such thing as inherent quality is a really talented and successful engineer who works at intel

>THE OP

It was kinda hard to get into, a little confusing, but after the initial settle in, it turned out way better than I expected.

Any informations on the VN? I know it's episodic but it's been almost 2 years since the first one came out.

This is autistic enough to be pasta

I remember when kyoanal lickers lashed out against it because Key picked up PA Works instead of kyoanal to animate it

>mfw Angel Beats outsold every single kyoanal Key adaptation afterwards

Feels great when a shit fanbase gets BTFO

Fundamentally it's wish fulfillment for people who live empty meaningless lives. People want to be Otonashi, they want to live a responsibility free high school life where they forge deep friendships and have something to fight for. Otonashi's backstory fuels this fantasy; it ties together kitschy "safe" tragedy with sentimental self-sacrifice. And in the end, he's rewarded for it. It's emotional porn. A cathartic release so powerful it's orgasmic.

Dropped it after the first episode.
I never drop anything this fast.

Charllotte should get the VN treatment too.

man, I want to go Yusarin route

Is that guy who did this shit still dying and needs a heart transplant?

I want his route.

Whatever happened to the visual novel?

Has is been translated and is it actually good?

>Angel Beats aired 7 years ago
>mfw I still remember all the stupid shit from those threads
Everyone still hated the ending all those years ago. It's not good as much as it is emotionally manipulative especially the way it used music. At least the manga explains the characters backstories. Haibane Renmei did the concept a whole lot better.

Maybe you should go suck his dick some more.

Is this the KEY thread? Is Rewrite and the Planetarian movie any good?

most people who watch anime are teens

this

The middle part was complete garbage. It should've been a movie.

What are you implying? That this is some sort of general?

>There are people here who geniunely cried at Angel Beats

It's a good show for people that haven't watched anime before

Last person who said the exact same thing to me is some bald and grumpy dude who washes dishes at a small Chinese restaurant, occasionally preaching about objectivity and existence of inherent quality in evaluation of art while polishing my shoes

You're a fucking manchild.

Most people who praised it are probably people who've watched less than 20 anime and think it's the pinnacle of nukige and "making-you-sad" anime.

I honestly think it's a good show. Honestly, it wouldn't be discuss here if it wasn't.

The fact that is wasn't represented in 24 episodes was a actually travesty

>I have only cried during or after a movie or anime a few times in my life. I don't know why, but I'm just that way. This show, however, left me in a pool of tears. It's in its own category. The characters are so deep, the plot is so captivating, and the entire thing is overflowing with emotions. If you're not sure whether to watch it, I'll be sure for you

>13 episodes

I don't know what the fuck they were thinking.

I'm hoping the VNs deliver and eventually get an adaption of their own, spanning 24 episodes and replacing this one FMA:B-style. At the moment it's the most keyshit of all Key anime except maybe Kanon V1, but given the breathing room it needs it could be great.

All these, the episode count really is a complaint that drags everything the fuck down. Remember when 80% of the cast moves on to the next life in 5 seconds and suddenly we only have like 5 characters left? Damn that was bad

Because it's a good anime.

All those people duped into becoming organ donors. I feel sorry for them.

It's a grim reminder that you will die alone.

Also, fuck you Captcha

Angel Beats was frustrating to watch. Not because it was terrible, but because it could have been much more with the concept it had, it should have been at least 10 episodes longer.

I hope they finish the VN, judging by the first episode it seems promising.

>I hope they finish the VN, judging by the first episode it seems promising.
This. The premise is so good.

It's a nice preview of what the VN will be like when it comes out in a decade or so. A solid 4 in my book. My biggest gripe was them visiting that guy in the hospital that tried to kill them all.

Call me a newfag. I don't give a actual fuck.

Just finish the show not 10 seconds ago, Angel/Kanade winning the Arararagi(seiyuu) bowl is fucking awesome.

Stop reddit-spacing and we won't have to call you a newfag. I watched Akira just the other day and it was awful. Turns out there's nothing wrong with having your own opinion and there's nothing wrong with 'not watching something just because it's popular' either.

this has to be bait. Not even autism could justify this

Interesting try to justify your dogshit. How about this whole series being bland garbage with no sense of writing and characters ? Tension was always ruined by stupid comedy gags, characters were so shit fucking TK, a puppet who repeats "yeah cool baby" in loop, is considered cool and a fan-favorite, archetypes are bland uninspired cash-grabs, story doesn't makes sense. It tries hard to ride off every popular thing from that era but sucks.
>mfw Sup Forumsutists cry from 2 cardboard characters repeating "I love you" while disappearing

Yeah soundtrack is nice. I especially like what the band sings, like crow song. The story was just so bad though, every character was 2D and it was all just calculated to make someone cry. Very formulaic. A friend recommended it a while ago and I had to keep myself from trashing it to his face since he seemed very moved by it.

youtube.com/watch?v=sdPwvBJiQJY

It all depends on whether or not you're a keyfag.

I cried too because I'm weak-willed faggot, but you're hopeless. Please don't post again.

Rewatching the first episode, and I'm starting to suspect a ruse of epic proportions. There's no way anyone seriously enjoy this shitfest where every scene is a chance for the creators to make every wrong choice.
>hurr durr they're immortal ghosts but still bleed huge amounts of blood for no reason at all
>that fedora-tipping "M'lady" orbiter who attacks MC for no reason in a stupid "100 hits" scene

>"Here is Ooyama-kun, his lack of character is his defining characteristic"
