Whatever happened to visual novel adaptations? Back in the 2000s they were all the rage, particularly the romance ones. Now, they're barely done anymore, and the last new non-short adaptation of a romance visual novel was this, way back in Winter 2016. Why did they die out, when they used to be so popular?

Because they are shit. Now behold how they will butcher Dies irae

because all the good ones have been adapted already

People are finally realizing that packing god knows how many hours of writing into 12/24 episodes is fucking awful. And that adapting routes for girls without any bias whatsoever in a non-omnibus format is more trouble than it's worth.

LNs are easier to do I guess.

There is no reason to adapt VNs, which are on average very low quality and are hard to adapt (due to their length) when you can just adapt the thousands of isekai WN which are written like anime scripts.

Then why don't more shows do an omnibus format then?

This would be better if it were adapted as a hentai anime.

Wasn't Princess Lover like that? It had a non-hentai anime and a few hentai OVAs.

Because it's even worse.

Because only Amagami can do it right.

VN adaptions turned out to generally suck just because you have to cram so much in so few episodes, resulting in butchered messes. The exceptions are few and far between. Planetarian for example turned out decent because the VN was short. Noraneko really isn't an adaption, acting more as a SoL deal for those who like the characters.

The last one was literally perfect. Just let it end right there.

No, it wasn't.

How?

It missed the sex scenes.

Visual novels just died. No one plays them anymore.

Also the "MC" was pretty much written out.

That's an improvement you degenerate. Redemption, rather.

There's still a lot. There were like 11 VN adaptions last year

after rewrite im not sure if i want them to adapt any more.

VNs are a dying medium. Mobage and web novels are where it is at these days.

Nah, look at the CGs on sadpanda, these girls look beautiful while being fucked.

Because no one cares about visual novels anymore.

Which is sad, because 99% of the content in those media are filled with complete shit.

the main character is more likely to get laid in eroge adaptations

it's too bad walkure romanze didn't get the same treatment

>Whatever happened to visual novel adaptations?
Tensho happened.

ngl if he's doing ISLAND, I will watch it

Because route amalgamation should be a crime punishable by death.

Yes just like VNs, saving grace being the porn.

>rewrite
>anime

Speaking of eroge adaptations, why do most sell poorly? The last one to not flop was Grisaia, and even then it sold above average and wasn't exactly a huge hit.

people just want traps and recycled bs

I still need to finish that show, I liked the dogfight sport.

Because anime is a niche medium to begin with and BD sales aren't the biggest source of revenue anyway

Why didn't this sell well? Wasn't the VN popular in Japan?

LN took its place. Easier to adapt, more to adapt.

Anime is simply not adequate to adapt VNs, especially the typical ones that have 5+ routes and lots of MC inner dialogue. So much content gets lost and so much is confusing or weird after the conversion process that it isn't worth it. I'm glad adaptations of VNs died out for the most part, they are mostly an insult to the original work.

Maybe because it was destined to be shit. By the time it came out even fans of the VN were wise enough to avoid it.

>Because route amalgamation should be a crime punishable by death.
This. Each route should be animated separately

There is no Rewrite anime.

That's good if the show is 24+ episodes long like Amagami. If you get the typical 12-episode anime adaptation though, it's absolutely necessary to cut out heroine routes completely.

Ideally, just focus on the common route and a single heroine route. Like what Mashiro-iro Symphony did, that anime was far from perfect but at least it felt like it went somewhere.

What is the best VN adaptation in your opinion Sup Forums?

I thought Kanon(2006) was decent albeit not without its flaws

Planetarian, simply because it wasn't adapted from one of those fuckhueg door-stopper VNs thus it was actually able to pull off the entire story of the source material.

WA2, because adapting a 10-hour long VN into 5 hours allows you to be very faithful to the source material.

With that said, I don't believe that being completely faithful to the source material is required for a good adaptation.

Let's hear what Moogy has to say.
> Eroge have been irrelevant in Japan for quite some time now, and there are only a few commercial titles worth looking forward to per year nowadays. Calling the market "dead" is probably a stretch, but not much of one - the model as it is isn't really sustainable (lol, 8800 yen package releases) and most potential customers have moved on to other content by this point, especially with the rise of soshage in recent years.
And there's your answer, nobody makes VN adaptations anymore because Moogy said the market is irrelevant. Not that hard to grasp I believe.

Rewrite's adaptation was fine, it was the source material which was shit.

Why even pay for "professional" eroge if you can get freeware vn with uncensored porn content anyway?

Clannad movie, radically different and trimmed down but much improved.

Dies Irae is shit that 12 year olds think is cool.

I don't like WA2 simply because it is unfinished. It's a 0/10 for me until they decide to animate coda.

Kanon is very good. The only problem is Ayu being forced at the end, but that goes back to multiroute VN adaptions being problematic to adapt in general.

Adaptations exit primarily to sell the source material. The PC visual novel market is a dying breed. Why would an author write a scenario for a VN when he could just make it a web novel and it might get picked up by a publisher? Light novels actually sell.

>easier
No they're cheaper to licence.
Behind popular VNs there's often entire companies who knows their value.
Behind popular novels there's often amateurs who can be scammed with poor contracts.

It's not even "adaptation". They butcher it.

The curse of Gonzo.

How much does most VN being 18+ factor? Publishers will fund a LN anime because they know they can tap into that huge well of disposable income that teenagers have. The market for eroge is smaller and as says it's not growing or even shrinking.

And all-ages VN have never sold well unless you've already got an army of fans who will buy your game no matter what.

> they're barely done
>Why did they die out
>last new way back in Winter 2016

Still waiting for the adaptation of White Album 2 Closing Chapter and Coda

>particularly the romance ones.

Every VN is a romance VN.
VN adaptations rarely have the content that pleases producers, so they're mostly used to further the sales of the VNs.
Or to promote new VNs, since the industry is dying and every known VN writer is doing LNs or anime, there are less adaptations as well.

> dark atmosphere = underage
2010 called it wants its stereotypes back

Should have made hentai OVAs instead of an anime

pityou*

yes

>rewrite
>anime

Wow, there's a yuri route?

Nope, just yuri shipper image

You can't recognize a legit Visual Novel CG?

Adapting VN to anime really needs a good director. By I mean good director is a capable director that can make monologues into animation well. But rarely nowadays directors can do that.

Ishihara needs to direct VN again since he's good at it.

Kanon remake is my favorite.

Touma best girl

The rewrite anime wasn't bad outside of the animation because
>8bit
At least Kagari got a kiss.

S;G 0 has an adaptation on its' way.

Misaki was best girl

Muv Luv trilogy adaptation when?

True.

The anime was alright but at the end of the day I go to the panda and hammer my cock to the great CGs, not something else. No point in adapting ero vn without the porn itself.

The animu was okay, that slutty sleepy cat ended up falling for and getting pounded raw by Top Champ after losing to him in an eating contest. Coachi was such an uninteractive lump that he didn't deserve her anyway

We all know it's not happening.

killjoy

Where can I get my own Misaki? I want to feed her my noodle.
