kaiji was my most recent watch, i only included anime i liked

never heard of that anime

melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, you probably wouldn't like it but still it's an essential watch.
try pingpong, and if you like that try ashita no joe.

Read the fucking sticky. Spoonfeeding is against the rules. Asking "what is top left" or whatever is one thing, and should probably be answered, but a bold-faced request for recs should be appropriately berated and shit on, reported, and redirected to /wsr/ where it belongs.

Actually when I was making that chart it was originally going to be a best episodes chart and that was going to be Hakkenden episode 10 but then I couldn't come up with enough episodes that I thought were remarkable enough straight away so I kind of gave up. Hence why it has Paranoia Agent image from episode 8, Kaiba from episode 3, Space Dandy from episode 18, Rahxephon for episode 15.

The visuals are nice but the story is an intentionally obtuse, convoluted mess. It's style over substance for people who want to feel smart by pretending to love overcomplicated things.

4/8 --hyouka, knk, lucky star, tamako (tamako, kanna and anko are cool, though); ++mushishi, kon, (natusme, I really didnt like the heavier focus on reiko recently, feel like she pops up too often and i dislike the character in general)

4/8 --dominion tank police, megazon23 (while ep1 is exceptionally well done, you should consider suicide if you think ep2/3 are anything but hot garbage), bubblegum crisis (same issue here, while ep5 and 6 and absolutely brilliant, the fact that the underlying plot is never addressed or concluded and that ep 1-4 can basically be seen as filler is just a goddamn waste, especially since the soundtrack is as good as it is);
+++macross dyrl, ++angels egg (for the art, everything else is lackluster. its ambigiousness is too much and makes it impossible to criticially attack the work, which is pretty bad in my book. symbolism is fine, but not to that extent)

Typical Oshii movie. Uses characters as no more but mouthpieces while pretending to be overly complex or philosophically deep.

He's right though. Go to reddit if you want people to fawn over you and recommend shit.

You don't think it was a typical Oshii movie?

I would only consider Dominion and BGC to be campy personally. Vifam especially is just an incredibly well done character drama/space opera.

Megazone is definitely campy.
And so is anything by Tomino though it's a special kind of camp.
Many would consider anything from the 80's campy especially if it features giant robots.
It's mostly about aesthetics.
DYRL, Dominon, Bubblegum Crisis, CCA and Megazone23 seem to fit this 80's aesthetics more or less. Vifam not so much admittedly but it's old and with robots so maybe it still applies? I wondered if that is what you based your choices on? It's a pretty common preference on /m/.

If shot composition, scene flow and choreography counts as aesthetic elements as well as art and music then that covers BGC and DYRL. It is'nt just about looking and sounding pretty as it is having masterful visual direction on the whole.

CCA gets in for culminating all the important themes from early UC Gundam in a satisfying conclusion, it is the perfect ending to Char's character arc and really brings all the important themes from Zeta and the tail end of 0079 to the forefront.

Dominion gets in for being the only anime to perfectly capture Masamune Shirow's vision of high concept cyberpunk world building, semi-circumstantial police procedural plot, mixed with a hilarious slapstick cartoonish attitude.

MZ23 gets in on every level save having really dynamic characters (which is normally the least important part of anime to me).

Vitamin is legitimately just masterfully well written in the way the character arcs and general plot goes.

if it was just about 80s aesthetic and audio visual elements I would have probably switched out Berserk for the Dirty Pair movie, SAC for Gunbuster and Angel's Egg for Iczer 1. Or something like that:

Furthermore, "camp" tends to entail a "so bad it's good" kind of appeal. I think it is more of a freshness and naievity, not being bogged down by pretensions that makes something like BGC so good. If "camp" just means a kind of over the topness or lacking of subtlety, then some of these fits that description. But if it is in a "you should only enjoy these ironically" kind of sense then fuck that.

Fuck off and kill yourself, newfag.

STOP bullying

>If "camp" just means a kind of over the topness or lacking of subtlety
yeah, I think that is supposed to be the original meaning.

Why did you pick DYRL instead of SDF?

>CCA gets in for culminating all the important themes from early UC Gundam in a satisfying conclusion, it is the perfect ending to Char's character arc and really brings all the important themes from Zeta and the tail end of 0079 to the forefront.
(Very) cautiously optimistic here.

>Dominion gets in for being the only anime to perfectly capture Masamune Shirow's vision of high concept cyberpunk world building, semi-circumstantial police procedural plot, mixed with a hilarious slapstick cartoonish attitude.
Most people only seem to like the first two episodes that focus on slapstick but I find it to be pretty solid sci-fi overall.

First time posting in one of these.
3/4 -Bokurano anime
Damn, I still have to make my manga 3x3.
4/4 ++Vagabond, Stone Ocean
2/2 ++Oniisama
2/3 ---SNK ++Dragon Ball

They are actually about equal to me. SDF has a better plot development and character arcs, DYRL has better audio-visual direction, production values, and art, the pacing is a bit better as well since they had no cancellations to work with. Both are good enough that what they lack in is made up for more than fully by what they excel at.

In CCA Char goes 110% in what he has always done, through letting his own personal pettiness sabotage his greater more broad scale goals - his demons defeat him, like they had been since 0079 and he lost Lalah due to his rivalry with Amuro. His failure there was something that he could never get over, so he repeated the same behavior - and lost for good this time. We really get a sense of what confused and broken person Char is at his core with the movie. In retrospect Char goes as far as even admitting that he is thinking of moving towards what he did in CCA in Zeta, and Char's same flaws are present there as well, just not quite as explicitly. He still had some hope to move on and become a better person there, but he failed. It is just a brilliant character arc. I think Sunrise needs to leave Char alone now - but there is a reason why he is such a beloved character. Amuro solidifies his role as the jaded defender of the status quo, despite it's obvious faults, since it is better than any radical utopian solution ( Probably one of the best socio/political commentaries we get from the franchise, and maybe even the genre). We get Quess and Hathaway continuing on the theme that empathetic connection does not entail a happy ending - and that humanity will always repeat the same mistakes. But we are given a small reason to hope due to the occasional miracle of humans doing something good for once through the Axis Shock, culminating in a kind of bittersweet conclusion to early UC Gundam, which was always dark on the whole, but gave us enough glimpses of human virtue not to be a complete edge fest.

And its one of the better ones in the thread.

Thanks!

>In CCA Char goes 110% in what he has always done, through letting his own personal pettiness sabotage his greater more broad scale goals.
Oh, I see. Just the regular cookie-cutter opinion. Never mind then.
