Takeo Gouda falls in love with Rinko Yamato.
Unable to confess, the muscular high school student is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls Yamato, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.
But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, saying, "SUKI DA!" she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the Rinko he called is not the same Rinko he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with Gouda's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.
Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

I recently read the chapters post-anime and it was expectedly fun and comfy. I even have the urge to go back and rewatch a bit of the show. The last romance I can think of that was this enjoyable since Ore aired was probably Tsuki ga Kirei.

You're grossly underestimating the change in men's behavior around women once they're in a relationship they're trying to be faithful to. While they're "single and looking", there's a ton of incredibly off-putting and socially awkward ways they treat them that they don't even notice themselves doing.
Takeo's always been the way he is, and though they push hard to make the point that no other girl ever gave him a chance and they realized what they were missing out on, everyone falling all over themselves for him was still a little much.
