>gets the power of a god which allows him to anonymously kill anyone on earth in any way he wants while having 100% (!!!) security of not being caught
>even if they found his book, they still need to prove that the book did it and they can't do that without killing someone
>they still need to prove that he was the one writing the names (maybe he just found the book?)
>plus he has the best cover of all: nobody would fucking believe in something supernatural

.......
a few days later
>almost gets caught
>decides to fight L because of his huge ego instead of just hiding somewhere
>gets beaten by LITERAL autists

Yeah great fucking genius. Nobody could fuck up that bad. Even a fucking 6 year old kid wouldn't have been caught. Light is a faggot.

>>even if they found his book, they still need to prove that the book did it and they can't do that without killing someone
They can just write his name. That way he dies if he's guilty.

Doesn't prove guilt. Could have found the book and never written names in it

He wanted people to know they were being judged.
Also his test seems reasonable. How would you test it?

Light's goal wasn't to kill criminals, it was to be a God, and establish himself as the dominant power in the world.

The whole thing was always about his ego, and he wouldn't have been satisfied to just kill from the shadows. He wanted his enemies to know he was the one who killed them.

Light was always a retard blinded by his ego, the only reason he was winning at the start it's because he had the fucking death note and the knowledge about everything else while L had to figure out how the fuck was Kira killing people.

L was smarter than Light

He only got into this entire mess because he killed a guy on national television after being provoked. Even I could have told him that this is a horrible idea. Also it is bad PR.

Until he did that huge mistake it was believable that he was just and punished only criminals. Fake L however wasn't a criminal. To the public he was just a normal detective. His only crime was to tell the public that Kira is evil. Killing him doesn't exactly help in proving he is good.

Plus from this moment random psychopaths like Misa and Mikami felt attached to him. He got almost got caught several times because of Misas stupidity and in the end he does because of Mikami.

He should have picked better allies.
Yeah if it weren't for the small fact that his dad is the boss of the fucking Japanese police and Japan was the country with the most deaths.

The police had the responsibility for criminals. To assume that someone inside the police is corrupt and spreading a virus among prisoners or some shit would be the first fucking logical thing to suspect. Then narrowing down his location with different broadcasts for different regions? That's as logical as it gets. And technically the police didn't even commit a crime by exposing Lind L Taylor. Kira killed them after all.

Light is a dumb idiot just like his entire fanbase.

>don't use police only info like an imbecile
>don't kill people only when you have free time
>don't use info you see on the TV or sites that aren't major and accessible from any country (use a VPN)
Whoa, dude. It's almost as if it's extremely fucking easy to stay anonymous, the guy was simply retarded. But I guess the plot would've been boring otherwise.

His ego is what makes following the story entertaining.
What's the point of him silently triumphing by giving L no clues when instead he puts himself at risk so you get to experience a battle of wits between those two?

Why the fuck didn't he just brainwash someone to have an accident where L dies in a car crash after he became Ls friend?

No fucking way that death could have proven that Light was Kira. Nobody had an idea that Kira can kill people in different ways. Plus without L the police was a bunch of retards.

You can't use the Death Note to force someone to kill someone else

We've had this thread every day for the past week.

When he killed the guy on TV they still had the whole Kanto region as suspects, that is still an enormous number of people. They would've never found him like that. His real mistake was using police info, that way they narrowed the search down to the exact individual. Killing the FBI dude sealed his fate, but he was fucked either way.

What bothers me is also that he went after the small fish. Literally low-IQ rapists and robbers who would rot in prison anyway.

What about the really evil people: the drug barons, warmongers, arms traders, mafia/syndicate lords, dictators etc...?

Oh wait killing these guys would require to research stuff and invest scarce mental resources into something other than school and Light was obviously too smart for that.

Light was a complete retard, I can't understand how anyone would vouch for him

We've had this thread every day 10 years ago. Truly dark times.

>Killing the FBI dude sealed his fate
Why did he do it? I don't even remember it.

Didn't the FBI guy say Light was just a normal guy?

>Even I could have told him that this is a horrible idea.
Because your weakness isn't your ego. I still think L would've caught anyone here sooner.

Let all the criminals die to random shit then setup the rumor that bad karma kills them all. Woosh

That is the opposite of letting people know they are being judged.

>I still think L would've caught anyone here sooner
You're projecting your own lack of intelligence upon other people. See That's the only things you have to do to stay hidden, there's literally no way L would catch you unless the plot demands so.

You only point out Light's mistakes. You don't notice your own pattern and mistakes.

He had to kill Lind L. Tailor because it was not just chance to kill L who was trying to oppose him but also chance to proof to the world that Kira exists and punishes anyone who doesn't do his will. Up until that point Kira was just rumours. We know that it was a bad move but for Light the whole point was make the world be afraid of punishment.

The problem was that Light had higher aspirations, and viewed himself as god. So when the FBI agents were after him, he had to kill them in old testament style righteousness.

If Light could have been content killing criminals whenever they committed a crime, he would have had a very peaceful world where everyone is terrified of breaking the law, because who wants to get a heart attack for breaking a rule? But no one would know who was behind it, and Light wanted the credit.

In fact, it might be even more interesting if the manga had gone that way. The world would have fundamentally changed, the internet might have a blacklist on reporting crimes, or television might be outlawed. Tv shows and movies would have to be underground because anyone with a camera who is filming could potentially report a crime and then be subject to Kira's wrath.

But if humanity's survival is paramount, we would change whatever we needed to to curb kira's power. He is still a human, and if we remove the tools that give him surveillance, he would be toothless except for the crimes committed near him.

That might take us back to a pre-internet and television industrial world.

Okay and then what? Sure you are removing a few pieces of shit but nobody knows it is for the acts and nobody connects it to a godlike being judging you so nothing changes. After you are dead society might be even worse because it will have to adjust to a huge influx of more criminals. And you are in whatever hell left for people who use dead notes.

>use NASA supercomputers and billions of dollars to crack any VPN (the companies which provide VPNs can be bought like anything, especially if is a state emergency)
>use an algorithm which compares the names in browser histories to the names of the victims
>use an algorithms which keeps track which photos were leaked and how
>suddenly you are part of maybe 300 autists on earth who were all researching that stuff
>all of them get v&
>they find your book
>they force you to write the name of someone who got the death sentence, after all if they don't know the book kills people it's not the crime
>now they know it does
>they analyze your writing style to determine that it was 100% you who did write all the names
>you get bin laden't
Done. Nobody is smarter than the entire mental and financial resources of an entire nation.

Light didn't need to make it obvious, enough coincidences and autists would connect the pieces and start worshiping him.

Light was smart, but he had a fucking ego problem.
How you don't get this is amazing.

>enough coincidences and autists would connect the pieces and start worshiping him.
Not really. You would be a conspiracy nut believing in it.

He did, but Light didn't know that.

The entire point is that Light did this to himself, he only got caught because he put himself in the situation. L would never have had the man power to do anything remotely even come close to finding Light.

the retard here was L telling just after the murder that everything was staged.

light wanted to be a god, he wanted everyone to know him.
L wanted to catch him, making him think that he was dead was a great advantage.

Like we could've skip the whole agent murder and jumped right away to ryusaki presenting himself to light in class.

>He is still a human, and if we remove the tools that give him surveillance
Except that would be literally impossible to do. The most powerful and richest people on earth aren't ghosts. They are all know and there exists at least 1 picture of even the most anonymous of them.

If someone decides as much as even dare to suggest to ban television and the Internet Light could simply annihilate one powerful person after another, until they stop. Don't want to die? Don't ban television. You're a president and don't want to die? Fire anyone who suggests banning television.

An entire new caste of anonymous politicians would need to arise in order to do these changes. This stuff would probably take more than a lifetime, long after Kira is dead.

>L wanted to catch him, making him think that he was dead was a great advantage.
L also wanted people to know that Kira isn't a god though. That he is someone judging people who should not have that power.

>After you are dead society might be even worse
That happens either way unless you train another Kira to do the same thing you did.
>nobody connects it to a godlike being
You realize that you can make them write shit like ''Kira did this'' in blood before they die and people will find out about you without actually knowing who you are, right ?

This is correct, you will eventually have to stop if your only source of information is the internet. They could also straight up ban every info about criminals from mainstream sites and track every deep web site there is. If you stop on time you won't be caught though.

>Like we could've skip the whole agent murder and jumped right away to ryusaki presenting himself to light in class.
lol no. Kanto has what, 50 million people? The only reason L targeted Light was because the FBI agent who died surveilled only about 100 people and Light was the one with the strongest connection to the police.

Yes, but he would give the notebook to someone else and the cult of Kira would be an influence also. If you kill off the president of broadcasting and no one takes his place, then the broadcasts still stop.

keep the book offsite somewhere, also they cannot compel you to write in the book. Even if you did somehow get forced into writing in the book you writing in the book and someone dying needs a causal link to be accepted as evidence to even charge you let alone hold and convict you.

Having recently reviewed the series, I've come to the conclusion that L's sometimes frustrating behavior makes complete sense once you realize that his highest priority is NOT catching Kira, but rather to determine how Kira is able to kill people. He doesn't merely want to catch Kira, he wants to make sure that nobody else can ever do what Kira is doing. When he uses Lind L. Tailor as a decoy, he's not just trying to locate Kira, he's trying to see if Kira will be able to kill him once the decoy is revealed. That's why L starts daring Kira to kill him after Tailor dies. L wants to establish whether or not Kira is able to kill him in that situation. When Kira isn't able to kill L, that's how L figures out that Kira needs a face to kill.

>also they cannot compel you to write in the book.
Dude the rules of the death note are literally written there. A cruel joke indeed what the Shinigami did. 1 death could be a coincidence, maybe even 2 or 3. But if the 10nd guy dies exactly 40 seconds after you've written the name it is obvious that your book kills people. That's all the proof you need.

Also I seriously doubt they can't force you. If you killed thousands of people you would be worse than ISIS and they would treat you accordingly.

The only thing that could save you is if they didn't know you have to imagine a face to kill someone. Then nothing would happen. But it is literally written in the damn book. If it wasn't divine or something I would remove all of the rules with fucking acid or overwrite it so many times that it would be impossible to decipher.

>the retard here was L telling just after the murder that everything was staged
Are you retarded, dude ? After he found out that Light was in the Kanto region he had to prohibit people from entering or exiting the area, this couldn't have been kept a secret. Light would've known anyway that he got caught on that one.

>He doesn't merely want to catch Kira, he wants to make sure that nobody else can ever do what Kira is doing.
No, L is just a literal autist and it would have ate away at his soul to not solve the heart attack murder mystery. He doesn't really give a shit about justice. Justice is more of a means to an end so he can amuse himself intellectually.

>Like we could've skip the whole agent murder and jumped right away to ryusaki presenting himself to light in class.

No. The Agent dying is the entire reason why L was able to narrow down the list of suspects so quickly. L realized that Ray Pember had been stalking Light Yagami shortly before his mysterious death, and that's what initially made L consider Light to be a suspect in the first place. If Ray Pember doesn't die, then L has no reason to start spying on Light.

>they find your book
They'd find a notebook containing the names and causes of death of those who died. Not a super weird thing to find on someone investigating the deaths. You jump to the 'notebook kills people' conclusion far too quick.

>They'd find a notebook containing the names and causes of death of those who died
Is there a rule that says you can't dispose of pages after you finish writing in them ?

If they find the notebook, then they'll instantly know that it isn't an ordinary notebook. Why? Because of Ryƫku. Anybody who touches the notebook will instantly be able to see the Shinigami. This is why Light gets so worried when his little sister almost touches the notebook early in the series.

No. You can even take pages to use on the go.

Why didn't he just have Mikami sakujo the rest of his detective team after his father died?

>That's why L starts daring Kira to kill him after Tailor dies. L wants to establish whether or not Kira is able to kill him in that situation. When Kira isn't able to kill L, that's how L figures out that Kira needs a face to kill.
This is also how L found out that Kira isn't omnipotent. It would be meaningless to fight an omnipotent being so L was ready to die. It was in this moment that L already defeated Light.

Until that moment L wasn't really obsessed and was still considering that he wasn't fighting a man but a phenomenon or a virus.

After his provocation he was 100% sure that he was fighting someone with his own will, who wasn't omnipotent.

I forgot, how many pages does the notebook have and can you run out?

>Light gets replaced by pic related as the protagonist of Death Note
What changes?

Unlimited pages.

Kaiba wins. He is the CEO of a gigantic company, not just some random policeman.

Kaiba destroys the Death Note because he can't play card games with it

The entire reason why L is so tolerate about letting Light walk a

It has magically infinite pages.

Kaiba wouldn't want to be an autistic vigilante so Kira doesn't exist and Kaiba just keeps it locked in a vault somewhere in case he needs it for some reason.

Again, they'd not think notebook = capable of seeing ryuk.
Someone'd see him, freak the fuck out, and would be declared insane.

Besides they'd be rummaging through your shit and even if, that's a big IF, even if they figure out that you need to touch something to see ryuk, they'd have touched so much stuff the notebook wouldn't be first to come to mind.

Oh yeah because a black, edgy book which contains ALL names who died in the mysterious heart attack series, isn't suspicious at all.

Kaiba actually stays anonymous until they turn the whole internet into a honeypot and Kaiba has to stop killing people or risk getting caught.

No, not really. Especially in Light's case, the son of a detective who's helped out on cases before having a notebook containing the handwritten details of one of the most interesting series of murder cases? It fits with his background, the logical conclusion would be that light was conducting his own investigation and that these are his notes.

Someone who isn't light can still claim that those are his notes on a really interesting murder case. But someone who isn't light would probably have ripped out the pages and desposed of them.

Just break as many pages as possible and hide them in different places. Dispose of the pages after you use them. Boo whoo, now you are virtually anonymous, even if they find you through the internet they have no evidence to prove you killed anyone.

What's with all the DN threads recently?

>Someone'd see him, freak the fuck out, and would be declared insane
What about the scenes where one of the detectives saw Rem and got scared and made the others touch the notebook?

netflix live action movie came out recently

Anybody who touches the notebook will be able to see Ryuk and talk to him. And since Ryuk tends to follow Light around wherever he goes, it would become very obvious that Light is actually Kira. Sure, Light might try to tell Ryuk to stay away from him, but how long would that work? Ryuk doesn't feel much loyalty to Light except for the fact that Light is entertaining to watch. So if he's not allowed to watch Light anymore, his willingness to follow instructions is going to dry up very quickly.

DN movie

I had hoped Sup Forums would just ignore it, but I guess it made people think about the series again and make threads again. Oh well.

>>they still need to prove that he was the one writing the names (maybe he just found the book?)
>find a notebook
>touch it and start seeing a GOD OF FUCKING DEATH
>the notebook has all the rules written quite clearly
>has names of every victim yet written in it
Yeah, no. That's enough evidence. If they really want more evidence, they can actually just test it on some death row inmate. If it has a fake rule that states the user will die if he doesn't continue using it, then they can have another death row inmate use it for them.

Basically, he's fucked the moment they get the note and learn it belonged to Light.

We had a week of non-stop threads made by people from Sup Forums and Sup Forums. It's not easy to ignore.

This. L kind of stopped giving a shit after he found the death note. At that point he found the murder weapon, and he knew Light and Misa were the two Kira's. His death episode, he pretty much accepted that Light had won. Bringing him to justice meant proving it beyond all reasonable doubt.

He writes his own name so he can duel Atem in the underworld.

It's been a long time and the details have faded but I recall L's deductions being mostly logical and able to hold on court, especially after accepting that there's a magic book killing people.

L's motivation doesn't change the fact that figuring out how Kira kills is his absolute top priority, even more so than catching Kira himself. Throughout the entire series, learning more about Kira's method of killing is more important to L than actually finding Kira. It's the entire reason why L has Light handcuffed to him in the first place. At that point L was pretty much convinced that Light was Kira, but he wanted to witness how Light was able to kill people.

>they force you to write the name
Unless the user has the person in mind, writing the name would have no effect. So this is essentially useless.

How about this.

Instead of a Death Note, Light finds the Millennium Puzzle and can use it to challenge criminals to a children's card game and banish their souls into the shadow realm if they lose. Also he gets the help of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to cheat at said children's card game.

What changes?

>Light is the protagonist of Death Note

What?

Yes. Death note is shit. Nothing new

There's also the part where in the first page of the notebook you can read "THE HUMAN WHOSE NAME IS WRITTEN HERE SHALL DIE", and then you'll wonder, is this the cause of all the heart attacks, and then read the next line: "THE DEFAULT DEATH CAUSE IS HEART ATTACK"

20 years ago, Light would be an undefeatable GOD. Today, the average Sup Forums tard could track down Light in 2 minutes.

I love that that shitty movie has brought a resurgence of Death Note discussion. It's been too long.

>(!!!)
>.......
kill yourself

>picks up the Death Note
>writes "Dies after beating Yami in a fair duel without interruptions"
>becomes immortal

I only decided to watch Death Note because at the time I thought it was flavor of the month garbage that only shitters like my friends talked about all the time.
I decided to watch it because I wanted to shitpost on Sup Forums about how terrible the new movie was but I needed something to compare it to. I didn't expect the first episodes to be good an make me watch the entire thing only to drop it when L died

No, the biggest dumbass in the series is this person.

>She strongly suspects that Kira was able to kill Ray because he gave out his ID card
>Despite this, she allows a random stranger to let her talk her into showing her ID card
>Not just a random stranger, but a random stranger who is suspiciously well-informed about Kira.

Literally all she had to do was keep walking and the series is over. After reviewing the scene, there is really no logical reason why she would give her ID to Light. He said nothing that sounded really convincing during the conversation. He offered no proof for his own claims that he was connected to L, nor did she bother to ask for proof, even as his claims became more and more suspicious.

Agreed. Here's to shitty remakes.

>Yami
>fair duel
I am loling at your life.

Heart attack because of impossible conditions, and also Yami dies of heart attack because his name was written as well. They can still duel in the afterlife tho.

rip, she was qt as fug though

If I had a death note I would write anonymous in it just to see what happens

>women being useless again
Not surprising

I know, rip in peace

Light's grandfather dies in the first episode.

This manga was really enjoyable.

Defend this.

>F-Fine! I'll put you in that damn cell! But it's not like I actually want to take suggestions from you, y-you baka!

The first scene seems more like L trying to psyche Light out more than anything. In any case confining Light made for a valuable experiment from L's point of view as he was growing more suspicious at that point anyway.

>being that autistic

Light would have just beat her up if she didn't give up the ID, he even said he might have to

or quickly ask Ryuk for the eyes

What would he even have to lose by quickly punching her in the face, taking the ID, then writing down what he needed in the Death Note while bullshitting some quick defense of his actions to stall for the necessary minute or so?

You have to have a specific person in mind to prevent everyone with the same name dying.

Women are able to scream VERY loudly, moron.

Just 1 person who happened to be at home, probably an old person in the surrounding 20 meters is enough to at least look outside the window and see a woman lying on the fucking street and then call the police anonymously.
