Suzumaruhi's Winter Apathy

Did you send this post 10 years into the future?

Haruhi is entry level as fuck, though. And why are you using that ancient image?

I guess. I never watch any of it but I recognize it.

Makuhurazi's Autumn Fallout

>using "otaku" to refer to anime otaku in particular
Why is that usage and this exact meaning of the word of the word so popular in the west? You can be a gun otaku, a train otaku, a cooking otaku; whatever it is - if I had to translate it into english it would be something like "nerd", but that doesn't really do it justice. Otaku obsess over things.
Yes, it could be used just like that, but it means something akin to "nerd", it doesn't necessarily mean you do watch anime.

yeah, i've watched at least 10 animes

no I am not you fucking weeb

ok mr tumblr
Otaku (おたく/オタク) is a Japanese term for people with obsessive interests, commonly the anime and manga fandom. Its contemporary usage originated with Akio Nakamori's 1983 essay in Manga Burikko. Otaku may be used as a pejorative; its negativity stems from the stereotypical view of otaku and the media's reporting on Tsutomu Miyazaki, "The Otaku Murderer", in 1989. According to studies published in 2013, the term has become less negative, and an increasing number of people now self-identify as otaku.

Only cute real life 3D girls and guys should be allowed to call themselves otaku nowadays. Ugly disgusting males should be gassed for ruining Japan's image of being a top modern beautiful country.

I miss when people used Otaku instead of Weeb.

>wanting people to use people words with their proper meaning makes me Tumblr
Did you even read the article you posted
>In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku is mostly equivalent to "geek" or "nerd", but in a more derogatory manner than used in the West.[6] However, it can relate to any fan of any particular theme, topic, hobby or form of entertainment

Listen
I've looked at at least 30 anime posters.
I'm pretty much at the pinnacle of being an Otaku

couldnt this also be luffy's general color palette?

Listen newfag on Sup Forums Otaku always meant animu so fuck off and lurk moar

Lole

Are you one of these faggots that think there is a difference or pride to take in either of these made up fan categories?

...

I don't really give a shit, I just consume manga /anime like I consume tv series or books, just wanted to check if people still remember Haruhi

Because for an interest that's not related to Japanese culture anyone's just going to use a native equivalent like "nerd", "geek", "fan", or "fanatic." Self-identifying as an otaku is dumb, but there's a clear logic behind when the word is used and when it isn't.

Jesus Christ, that fucking tone. You're the newfag if anything.
I was asking WHY "otaku" is used to refer to just "anime otaku" in the west. It's not just on Sup Forums.

You started a thread with a demotivational after the year 2006. What do you say to defend yourself?

>I was asking WHY "otaku" is used to refer to just "anime otaku" in the west.

Mostly because the english speaking anime fandom discovered the term through Otaku no Video. There was once a lot of controversy in the anime community about weather it was appropriate to use or not because of its pejorative use. There's also the factor of it being used in the same way as anime. The use of the Japanese word is to indicate that the interest originates in Japan, for a more general interest you just use the English equivalent.

I don't know what that pic even means

Can't westerners call themselves "anime fans" instead? You're just cheapening the word "otaku".
Also, this is unrelated to the discussions, but you westerners also use the wrong meanings of even your own fucking words. The definition of "Pedophile" is attraction to girls who haven't gone through puberty yet, but you use it to refer to people who want to fuck a 13 year old (it's hebephile), and a 16/17 year old (ebhebaphilia). You're just cheapening words by using them wrongly.
Never seen people in the west call themselves any other kind of otaku; they always mean "anime otaku".

No

These are "otakus".

It's no different from saying "someone is a grammar nazi". Really? Someone is a grammar national socialist? Something doesn't make sense here.. unless you just roll with it and accept that people butcher the meaning of foreign words

>Never seen people in the west call themselves any other kind of otaku; they always mean "anime otaku".

Once again, it's use in English started in the anime community of course it's most prominent there. You also see it in other closely related fandoms such as those for Japanese games, manga, cosplay, and light novels. Of course people don't use it for other hobbies, people in other hobbies don't even have a reason to know the word.
