Meanwhile, HIV, apparently a gay disease, but not in Russia, is still a huge problem.

Because people give that as an argument against allowing homosexuality or gay marriage. But even in a country with zero rights for gays, and an oppressive atmosphere for them and a positive culture for religion and social conservatism, birth rates are declining and disease and addiction flourish.
