ITT: shows that were supposed to be hits but flopped instead

And explain how and why things went wrong.

>The show was hyped and supposed to be good
>USO NO USO
>show flopped and was shit

Fate apocrypha
>no Shirou

That anime was amazing. If it flops it can only prove that Japan is full of brainlets.

>inconsequential first 20 episodes
>resolved in ep 21 by bullshit magic plothax
>another episode left

Can't wait to see them try and tie up all the loose ends and fail spectacularly.

The fact this was so mediocre made me sad. They were planning the asspulls from the beginning too, which makes it even more sad.

Now the last episode will literally be meteora sending everyone home (killing them).

lost interest halfway through

>no shirou
>implying that's a bad thing

>supposed to be hits
You really believed that shit?

I literally fell asleep watching the first ep of rakugo

>You really believed that shit?
You missed the point. The STUDIO believed that it would be a hit, and over-invested in marketing and merchandising. And of course the real life funeral. As another user said, the show is like a Hollywood movie where the company tried to make a bad story work by throwing money at it.

>Written by the guy who wrote Black Lagoon.
How was this supposed to be a success again?

Is TROYCA gonna go bankrupt?Where do they get their money?

the classic one

New Haruhi, they said.

That's not how her powers work though.

Anyway, Creators flopped because it was a fucking amazing concept that wasted its time on rambling out theories about what was happening, while also having its entire underlying plot be shit (a girl killed hersel by being bullied, please don't be bullies wow).

It's like if in The Last Action Hero if Arnold and the kid just sat in his room wondering why the fuck he was in the real world instead of going out and getting into crazy hijinks. I STILL can't believe we never got an episode where they went to something like Comiket and ran into Doujin of themselves. Yuuya and Sho never even ran across an insane fujo. Like come on where's the fun?

Monogatari killer, they said.

Fate without Shirou is like a pizza without cheese

>Troyca
>A no name that also produced the abysmal turd that is aldnoah zero
>Supposed to be hits
It was really obvious from the begnning

Because Black Lagoon is legitimately entertaining.

And he didn't write this, he was just the "ideas guy" and did character design.

Good premise, awful execution. Even clamp makes better crossover themed anime

>Ideas guy
So basically butcher with aldnoah zero

Maybe it's because I've seen so many action movies but I was pretty bored by the whole thing. Except for "Roanapur Freakshow Circus" that was legit the peak of the show.

They should reboot the series because the concept is a goldmine.

>They should reboot the series because the concept is a goldmine.
Fate grand crossover
Basically an alternate universe fate but instead of servants they summon japanese media characters

>all these cool looking characters just begging to star in some action scenes.
>b-but muh reader acceptence
>b-but muh author wank
>b-but muh meta memes
Re:Creators was a mistake

>Even clamp makes better crossover themed anime
Nope, making a shitty series is better than making an arguably slightly less shitty series that retroactively ruins your best work to date.

amazing concept, too much explanation, not enough fun encounters (it didn't have to be combat) everything resolved by drama, anti climatic, and it seems that holopsicon is just something that is accumulated by large amount of memes, which is absurd because, there other things that are popular. Maybe it will get explained in the next episode? but not counting on it now

The show didn't even break 3k BD sales, but is still getting merch and shit. Amazon also threw some money at it. They probably would at most spinoff this, but I doubt anyone in nipland cared for it enough. Seiyuufags be damned. Toyosaki did a great job with what she had.

>fateshit
I guess Last Action Hero and Pokemon is a fucking fate then

I don't know why you expected anything else after Aldnoah Zero. There are just too many issues to list, too many wasted opportunities, too many pointless scenes, too many out of character moments. Over half the show is spent building up to a climactic battle that was a farce from the start and won through a complete deus ex machina moment. The entire show could easily have been 1 cour with little missing. Mamika was the best part of it and they did almost nothing with her character. Magane, while entertaining, got away with too much stupid shit she shouldn't have. Alice was completely useless and only wasted our time getting strung along like a moron. Altair was the most interesting and yet disappeared from the middle 2/3 of the show. Most other characters had no real arc or if they did it was resolved in the most simple and hamfisted way possible like they just wanted to get it over with. Souta was too pathetic to care about. Fuck Meteora.

I'm not sure what is about high concept anime, that isn't made my Kon or Oshii, that causes it to be boring and shit.

>mfw no season 2 in sight

jej

>muh justice
>muh evil people getting away with it
>muh good guys must win no matter what

Go back to shounen shit
But re;creators was boring

"But guys, Mother's Basement said it's going to become an all time classic anime"

Actions should have consequences at least. Altair lost literally nothing because the audience is full of pussies.

This is also the man who started shit with the Smash community and is now complaining about community toxicity after getting some actual thoughts in a relatively nice manner.

He's a hack with boring taste. Hot girlfriend tho.

MB is the Egoraptor of anime critics.

His girlfriend was a camwhore so he figured he'd do the same, except sucking Crunchyroll's dick.

I'd actually want evil guys getting away with it like Altair could go full sandbox mode and go kill destroy Earthmelia as Selesia and Charon feels helpless to stop her and then she takes the good guy route by cooperating with them and not showing her true powerlevel.

So it flopped because it took itself too fucking seriously?

I almost want to watch just for the OP and ED. That and, as little as this often means, it was the epitome of comfy.

ALDNOAH.ZERO

To this day, I feel betrayed

Honesty I enjoyed it but then again I didn't have many expectations.

It spent all day trying to justify itself because all of the creations were mostly OP as fuck animu characters with a ton of bullshit abilities, so for some reason they have to go over how they're even brought into the world and how they get even stronger.

They could have actually run with the premise of wildly different fish out of water coping with the real world and taking more jabs at convention and contrivance in anime bullshit storywriting instead of talking for 400 minutes just establishing the equivalent of fucking Power Levels.

More like because it talked about itself too much. This is one of those few shows that might have done better with fewer episodes. That or some amusing filler as described would've been a boon.

>Kon
>Oshii
>not boring

Honestly the visual porn kind of grips me, GiTS 2 basically had me hooked because of how much they dipped into the uncanny valley.

Director thinks boring = serious

Too much focus on exposition and world building over character interaction and development, and they didn't even waste time with interesting world building.

Really weird how Aniplex really hyped this up and how they did all sorts of gimmicks to raise interest (notably the funeral), and how ANN kept praising the show and writing all sorts of articles about it, and yet the show still flopped laughably hard.

If there's any consolation for Aniplex, it's that at least it sold better than their last overhyped show, QUALITY Code.

I liked every character in Qualidea Code better than any character in Re:Creators.

riddled with plotholes

Someone give me a rundown of this show pretty please

But that actually was a big hit.

>no shirou
>implying that's a bad thing
It's a really bad thing.
Fate Zero's most meaningful scenes are the ones with Shirou, UBW and HF are nothing without him, Prisma Illya got WAY better after Miyu Shirou took over, and Fate/Extra's most interesting playthrough is the one with Mumei, who is the closest thing to a Shirou that we can find in that game.
Meanwhile every single character in Apocrypha has more personality than not-Shirou.

Code Geass killer they said.
I still can't get over that fucking atrocious MC.

Why did ANN love this show so much anyway? They wouldn't stop talking about it, they kept writing articles about it, they even covered the character funeral (complete with spoiler warning). All for a show that didn't really catch on, even in the West. What is it with ANN and this show?

And for that matter, why do anime reviews love talking about this show so much?

Mother's Basement is a worthless hack.

>shiny
>hype OST
>crossover plot to combine fanbases
>muh cinematography
Pseuds making money off weebs don't know how to predict quality. They thought this show would be their golden goose, the next big thing, and maybe it would have if it weren't terrible.

wasted potential

Now you just made up some bullshit.

>Oh man look at me on how I hate shows I'm fucking glad I dropped shows I'm such professional anime critic. All I do is watch shows then shit on people watching it so they get triggered. If you like this show go back to plebbit for having shit taste.

lol dropped after 3 episodes, tried rewatching the 3rd just to get with the plot and but it was confusing as fuck,

Lolwat? If anything they spent too much time trying to explain some easy-to-grasp concepts and didn't let any of their fuckhuge cast really breathe or develop.
That said, I don't blame you for not being able to make it past episode 3. That shit was the most awful plotdump.

Shakfu was the only good thing to come out of that shitshow.

Like other anons have said, the concept and first episode looked like it had some amazing potential, and being two cour meant they could have some huge and entertaining plot to work with.
But it turned into endless exposition dumps and got even worse when the government guys showed up after the first few episodes and just accepted all this weird shit.
Also, we all saw the method of Altair's defeat coming, so the big fight the series was building up to was ultimately pointless. Seeing Altair mary sue away all the finishers done to her reminded me of a kid in a playground going "Nuh-uh! I had my everything proof armour on!"

it was Sawano's finest work yet in my opinion, at least I got that much from A;Z

If anything, you need to go back to plebbit for trying to prevent people from having a bad opinion about a show. This is not the circlejerk you are looking for.

Among many other things I can't believe how they went out of their way to make pretty much all the fights happen for fucking pointless or convoluted reasons. Basically "I don't like what you're saying" and then have some skirmish at the end of the episode (complete with cliffhanger) only to resolve it in the first five minutes of the next one by having one of the characters fuck off because "www can't fuck with real physics too much yet", which is the fucking worst cop-out they could come up with to make more space for boring exposition that repeats the same concepts over and over and over again. The shit with Magane/Mamika/Alice in particular gave me brain cancer. And then there's the birdcage shitfest, but I don't even want to bother with that.

wow

>circlejerk
what the fuck is that?It seems like you browse plebbit too much to even know their buzzwords

>interesting concept
>handled with infodumps for 3/4th of the show

Why ReCreators sucks.

This was supposed to surpass Gundam and become a franchise of it's own

It did not do that. It had a chance in the first season but the second completely killed all it.

Circlejerk is not that uncommon of a word, and it's not a 'le plebbit meme' by any means. What are you reaching at? If anything are you browsing the site too much to think that circlejerk is a word specifically related to them?

>Calling circlejerk a reddit buzzword when it's used specifically to insult reddit

>Altair was the most interesting and yet disappeared from the middle 2/3 of the show.
She had no presence or personality despite being hyped so much, the fact that all she boils down to is a screeching baby who only needed her pacifier only adds salt to the wound.

>of it is own

who is this?

Will there be another genre like this after 10 years?

It's basically a Reverse-Isekai done wrong. It's still Isekai, so chances are we will see something similar to it sooner or later.

People wanted to see reverse isekai with a bunch of cross genre tension and drama. This wasn't that

It's by no means bad but it leaves so much for imagination

If anything this idea will be a springboard for some shows with a very similar premise in a few years.

I hated this so fucking much
the protagonist was so smart he would solo any problem, then he gets a robot eye which makes him even smarter

modern sherlock x Gundam
I AM SO SMART YOU ARE DUMB

Are there any shows about defending medieval castles?

They could reboot this show and hire REAL WRITERS is writing really that hard?

>the Sawano kicking in means you get excited for this part

If I hear I WANNA FIND THE REASON WHY one more fucking time

AZ was showing signs of poor writing from the get-go.
>two minutes in
>"hmm I'll just remind myself of the subject we're studying in school today, which is all the necessary exposition"
If you can't gracefully get the backstory across through dialogue just get a narrator, like nigga just get a title crawl.

>robot eye is shown to have an eerie Martian-tech AI that makes him even more cold and calculated
>this never produces any conflict or inspires him to change his behavior in any way

They had to have designed this story in committee, there's no way one showrunner could screw things up this bad. R-right?

They literally just had to do Amagami again but they fucked it up so badly.

How was Toriko? The premise sounded interesting but I never gave it a shot.

>They could have actually run with the premise of wildly different fish out of water coping with the real world and taking more jabs at convention and contrivance in anime bullshit storywriting
Fuck, I can just picture a scene where one of the "MCs" just stands in the middle of a huge crowd going about their lives and realizes he/she's not the center of the world anymore

i'm stuck around episode 13 since it aired. it was fun to watch at the beginning but the mc being a faggot killed it

Aniplex of course

The MC was unbearable. Should have made him manlier.

A perfect depiction of a sociopath otaku, seems fine to me.

i seriously hope you don't think any of the shit in this show is "deep"

The last episode was them just talking about their feelings. Jesus christ this was a waste of time.

This show literally talked itself to fucking death. It went about everything in the most boring way possible.

>tfw no comfy SOL with a CGDCT archetype, noscreentime isekai harem second choice, hero's first enemy-turned-rival who's been powerleveled into complete insignificance, and comforting iyashikei mentor figure
