People really misunderstood the "stupid" drama in the first half, it was deliberate because the characters were just immature pre-teens in that part. People around their age tend to be dramatic over silly things, after the timeskip they all grow up and the drama becomes a lot more natural as a result.
... Except for Chisaki's drama because she refuses to grow out of her lust for Hikari's cock.
