Archers got those two fingers chopped of when they got cought by the enemy cause they use those two fingers to draw their bow. Showing them is just rubbing it in their face that not only did he kill their allies but that they failed to anvenge them.

Old archer insult. Basically, archers were usually commoners, that sign was usually thrown at noble knights pretty much telling them that "There's no ranks here, I can kill you with those two fingers.".
Because of that archer often ended up with those fingers cut when caught both to prevent them from using a bow again and because the nobles were still butthurt at fuck about those who did that sign at them.

I can't remember anything specific but in generall he sell his opnions as fact thoug he has no actuall knowledge about the topics.
If it's medival or somethign sharp he'll talk about it
He also sells his fencing as the reall deal but he's definetly not a martial artist and his interpretations of the fencing techniques is horrible. Some don't even work because he is just plain wrong in how they should work. He has no grasp of biomechanics and that a sword will break if you keep blocking with the cutting edge
