All that needs to happen is a small amount of Trump supporters stop supporting him. There's a hardcore contingent of Trump supporters aka places like /PTG/ or T_D that will support him no matter what he does or says, but there's also people who have flipped, and will continue to do so. He's probably already lost a handful of supporters due to the way he has behaved while in office thus far. Of course, Republicans basically have no choice but to support him because the alternative would be losing an election, but the people who won Trump the election were likely unaffiliated independents.
I think you have to look outside the lens of extreme Trump supporters to understand that there's a lot of people just plain upset with the way he's doing things, about his character, about the investigation and how he's handled that, etc.
