Re:Zero

Either the director who appears to have no previous directing experience messed up or the source material is just _that_ bad. Whale arc? Pointless. Village arc? Pointless. 75% of the show after the 1st half has nothing to do with the leading characters, there is basically 0 character development or meaningful interaction and is just a bunch of boss fights.

Why does MC get depressed if he knows he can just wind back time? What is the point in hammering in that the MC is depressed when the audience all know that he can return by death and re-do everything? It's literally drama for the sake of drama, not for the sake of plot or character development.

Oh wait, there was a point. The drama is there so that the instigator, Rem, can be eaten by a whale and promptly forgotten by the entire show. Is this kind of writing a joke?

And this was the most popular show of 2016? Well done Kadokawa.

> knows he can wind back time
What are the laws of thermodynamics

?

The laws of thermodynamics prohibit rewinding time

In physics speak, the direction of time from past to future is literally defined as the direction in which the entropy of the entire universe increases

Therefore, to rewind time you would have to reduce the entropy of the universe without adding any additional energy, which is impossible

The only way for it to work is if there were more energy entering our universe somehow from another universe

The only reason human civilization is possible at all is that the entropy of earth is decreased by the energy of the sun and like space radiation and stuff

So when the sun burns out we're in for a wild ride

>Why does MC get depressed
are you saying if you were in subaru's situation that you'd be able to cope with it just fine?

Dude, for like half the show Subaru runs around screaming "I dont wanna die!" That clue you in to his mental state? You hakf to fucking :DIE: to reset time, and thats a shit load of pain and uncertainty. Mental state?? Dude just doesnt want to die.

We will have destroyed ourselves eons before that becomes a notable problem.

His power is literally described on the Table of Contents to be "rolling back", in a word almost identical in meaning to "rewind".

He has no idea what is causing it and whether it will ever stop. Only when he's resolved to die rather than living in the current world does he ever commit suicide.

But what are eons when not only the direction of time but the magnitude (duration) of time is also determined by general relativity?

When you approach the event horizon of a black hole, to all observers farther away you appear to freeze in time, while from your perspective billions of years pass in minutes as you fall in

The exact time ratios depend on the radius (volume) of the black hole

The same applies to all objects that have mass such as the earth and sun, only less so because they have less mass than black holes

Re:Zero is such a low hanging fruit, why waste all this effort trying to criticize it?

What is general relativity when drump and rocket man have their small fingers on the button.

Every time he rewinds the character forget what they've experienced with him. That's pretty depressing.

Only Allah has fingers on any buttons kafir

that's the point, these are all introductory material. the first arc introduces emilia (and felt and reinhard, who are going to be very major players in re:zero's finale), the second arc introduces rem, ram, beatrice, and roswaal, and the third arc introduces pretty much everyone else, but most importantly petelgeuse/the witch cult. the next arc is where plot/lore material gains a heavier focus, and it's longer than the first three arcs combined but is still somewhat considered an introductory arc, since re:zero will, in its entirely, be eleven arcs.

The 2nd half of this anime was utter garbage.

What do the laws of thermodynamics have to say about the application of Mana and the Od Lagna?

> Return by Death. Subaru doesn't intend to reveal its requirements to Roswaal in detail, but it's no exaggeration that Subaru's ability is conceivably touching on the resurrection taboo.
> Subaru has used Return by Death to alter his own doomed fate, and even saved the lives of others. If Od Lagna witnessed this, there is no way that Subaru would pass its harsh standards.
> Unless, perhaps, the entity that allows Subaru to Return by Death is strong enough to survive Od Lagna.

> Ordinarily when people use magic, they inhale the mana in the atmosphere through their gates, convert it into magical energy, and again release it through their gates to cast magic.
> In Minerva's case the gate isn't the atmosphere, but a direct linkage to the core of the world. Said in more complicated terms, the core of the world is a supernaturally great concentration of mana—call it the place where mana is created.
> Minerva's attacks withdraw mana from that, converting it into strikes of healing. Through continued repetitions of this act, mana which should be provisioning someplace in the world becomes unable to reach it. With a starvation of the mana which is important in constructing the world, an extremely dangerous possibility spawns for these unsupplied regions to suffer natural disaster and calamity.
> The number of people Minerva had directly punched into health exceeded five digits.
> —But the number of lives she had indirectly snuffed by bringing about natural disaster was on equal par.

witches are strong enough to beat it but not without repercussions. satella, as far as we know, is strong enough that subaru is possibly immune.

>Arc 5 still not fully translated
reEEEEe I wish I knew Jap REEEEeee

Arc 1 isn't even translated yet, and I'm too low energy to do it at any kind of reasonable pace.

What's it like going through life developmental disorder?

I'll go back to doing arc 5 after the arc 4 interlude edits. by the way, brainlet that I am, I forgot to include the last page of the epilogue, which is an epiloguey thing, so check out the edited version if you want that bit.

I didn't even like her at first. I could see how others were into her but I loved someone else at first. Now I can't stop thinking about her, I look at all her merchandise and I try really hard not to pull the trigger. H e l p m e

felt the same way but now I got over 1000 images of her and 2.5(3 but one's a Ram) figures on the way.

>Arc 1 isn't even translated yet

edited and completed arc 4 interlude, part 9 is up.

after this it's arc 5 beako and dadbaru time again.

Thank you.

thank you

>Why does MC get depressed if he knows he can just wind back time?
It7s like you only read the synopsis. The point isn't that he's depressed, it's that he has to experience always worse levels of deadly torture each time he wants to get back in time. He's more broken than depressed at the end. He's su numbed that you can't expect him to make any rational 'love' judgment either. That's his main character development. Incessant agonizing pain for resets that lead to nowhere.

Funny enough, Subaru will always find a way to make it all right, so theres no need to feel fear, what is interesting is see how he does that, and there still lot of mysteries and yet you bitch about the initial setting.

Ah jeez, posts like these just remind me again why I adopted the stance that the fault is more likely to be with the person watching it ( i.e not getting shit ) than a show itself.

How you're not able to pick up on the various implications that the process of returning by death and its far reaching consequences are fucking with Subaru's mental health is just beyond me.

Dying? Yea that's fucking painful and a disturbing experience no matter how and how often you have to "live" through it.

Having all your efforts eradicated/returned by powers that are just far beyond your comprehension due to this world's laws? Must be frustrating to a point where you can't keep your cool despite having to.

Not knowing when you will actually die for good since no one's been giving you a convenient countdown on your possibly limited lives? Yeah messes with you as well, so no rinse-repeat cycles.

Having memories and moments with people they have never experienced themselves and being forced to act accordingly? Frustrating as hell and something you'd want to avoid from happening again and again.

And on top of that you aren't even allowed to explain yourself on why exactly you know this and that. Not being able to directly vent about the vast amount of pressure that's on you teeends to bring people to the brink of insanity you know. Just to name a few examples.

If you wanna see Subaru treat his life as something that can be thrown away cause he can return anyway in order to achieve the best possible outcome, read the IF.

So, what was the point of this movie again? Why all this drama when the guy can just reset anyway?

Is there any limit on how many times Subaru can reset? And will he be affected mentally and physically if he resets too many times? Like his lifespan will be reduced or something?

>And will he be affected mentally and physically if he resets too many times?
Isn't that obvious? His body resets but his mind doesn't.

In the alternative IF chapter, Subaru keeps dying over and over like it's nothing for his goals, becomes evil, and eventually goes insane.

>_that_

the witch of greed (different from envy) theorizes that there's as long as he has rbd, he'll never permadie. having rbd is dependent on the witch of envy satella, though.

What? Ram is like the biggest Remfag out there.

but what if rem gets so much love that she starts loving back and forgets about ram?

Except he went through the same character arc twice. His constant whining got repetitive and annoying.

Emphatically yes. If I were him I'd train everyday and then kill myself. I'd become a godlike savant before trying to do anything else...and it wouldn't cost me more than 1 actual day.

>What's it like going through life developmental disorder?
Reminder that this is the average fanboy for Re:Zero. ESL retards who can barely type coherent english. I thought most of you left by now, why the hell are you still here?

>It7s like you only read the synopsis

Holy shit my sides.

It's pretty bad yes

Every thread until Crusch-sama gets her memories back.

Thank you for your work, bro.

Sweet
>If I were him I'd train everyday and then kill myself. I'd become a godlike savant before trying to do anything else
Where do all these people get the idea that it works that way? Did this happen in another series?

My girlfriend Rem is so adorable.

People are retards that think only weak willed people wouldn't willfully kill themselves in order to game the system. The reality is that only psychopaths and robots would try shit like that (Echidna IF and Ayamatsu) Also good luck training your body at all if it resets every time you die, all you will get is reflexes too fast for your body or some ridiculous shit.

You know, you need to try a little harder trying to re-bait a bait thread user. Admit you lost and let others have some discussions for once.

It's not like his battle strength will ever be relevant enough to justify wasting loops killing himself either. He does a good enough job each arc with 4-5 loops.

Hilariously the only way Subaru can get strong is by megamanning the other archbishops and stealing their power. He also needs to throw sanity to the wind to use those powers properly.
All that looping more would do is hurt his sanity, the only way to get stronger is to go forward.
Ayamatsu Subaru is weak as shit due to the fact he never got the witch gene activation (or whatever) but he resets the most.

1. That movie is based on a good manga. The manga was a genius strike that tells a romance story by tackling a few topics. For example, it raised a question on what relationships mean to us and whether our self, if it had the ability to rewind time, and the selfs of the persons met along those rewinds, would be different persons altogether and what this would mean to the persons of those different timelines.

2. The movie wasn't as good as the manga because it completely changed the point of said manga by changing the ending.
In the manga the hero is unable to save the world. Which ends the story in a beautiful, bittersweet scene of tragedy.

However, even the character in the movie had a clear goal. It has a romance going on, but it's not what's at stake. From the get-go, you know
the world is at stake. That gives you reason to root for the character. And while the ending sucked, the story still tied together. Every scene built up for the next one which gained value from the previous.

3. A much better example of this kind of story done right is...see picture.
There is this one guy, he's a total dick. The movie shows him at work, having a bad day. It shows his day just getting worse and worse.
Next day, starts to rewind the day over and over. At first he's abusing the heck out of it and enjoys it, like any normal person would.
After quadrillions of rewinds he gets bored of being limited to that same location over and over with the same ppl, he already knows everyone's responses by heart is how often he already rewinded.
He gets depressive, tries to break out of that circle by killing himself in different ways.
He becomes lethargic, then switches to meaningful convos with that 1 girl he likes not just for sex. The entire ordeal teaches him that he has been living his life wrong as time spent happy with others is better than being a dick and it teaches the audience, rewinding a day isn't a great position to be in.

>holy shit he just tried to apply real world physics to anime

get out, seriously, get out

>What is the point in hammering in that the MC is depressed when the audience all know that he can return by death

So you want Subaru to think out of the narrative and know he can come back to life endlessly or should he be written like a real person that's capable of thinking that he needs to be careful as this shit might just be a one time thing? Also, each time he dies he's not forgetting the torture he feels each time. Apparently you get a good couple of seconds after you die before you completely go off and now imagine seeing yourself decapitated and you come back alive remembering your last moments like that. I thin that's pretty easy grasp from the show unless you're psychopath.

Finish watching. I also got pissed around the middle of it.

If I think this is what it is don't worry she ----wins---- then she loses her life

Reminder that the proper translation of "returns by death" is actually "return upon death, as the "ni" particle doesn't refer to the definitions of "by" that indicate means used but rather the agent performing an action. As in, getting bitten by a fog. The "de" particle would have to be used for means, as in "writing by hand" or "return by death".

Anyhow, adorable loli time.

...

Anyhow, be sure to enjoy your pocporn!

They make loli Rem look too innocent there. She was actually pretty mature for her age. After all, she was raised in a village that was full of nothing but adults.

She knows Subaru is a filthy pedophile who likes girls with the personalities of children. It's all part of the master plan.

Comic seems pretty Rem-like even in the backstory chapters. She used to act that way, just look at when Ram/Rem met the giants.

>want to resume arc 4
>despise reading on my pc while sitting with a passion
>dont have a phone to read while in bed
FUCK

Actually, yeah. That sounds right. This would be Rem after she gave up trying to do anything on her own, and lost all pride and confidence.

Rom does look scary though. Even Subaru got scared by him.

Why do you like this shit again?
Beato is annoying, Subaru is annoying, Roswaal is faggot, Rem and Ram are typical eroge characters, all the royal candidates are stereotypical. There's no good characters.

Emilia is the only one that doesn't do anything to make me hate her, hence the only enjoyable character in that show.

Nope, she's shit too. I just forgot about her.

Most people are coming off the WN where everyone has substantially more substance, also suffering and you know how people enjoy that.

>Clown
>Faggot
He's just keeping himself pure for his waifu.
Also Beatrice is best you raging homosexual.
Subaru acts in a relatively believable manner for somebody who just got yanked into fantasy land with no superpower except dying really well.
You can defend the time it takes him to realize he can time travel by trying to think from his perspective
>Suddenly in fantasy land
>Oh ok
>Die
>Suddenly blink back to fantasy land
Is your first bet going to be "I CAN TIME TRAVEL!" or is it going to be "Oh shit what the fuck is happening I'm going delusional in fucking dreamland"

>"Yeah I'd totally be fine dying over and over again, unsure as to whether or not the next death with be the last"

Yeah people don't seem to get that Subaru doesn't know anything at all about his power, also dying really fucking hurts.
Subaru has functionally infinite lives as shown by Ayamatsu and the Echidna IF, Subaru doesn't know this though, all he has to go off is a "IDK probably" from Echidna. For all he knows he has a limit of 20 resets so it's not wise to waste them just because he *might* have infinite. Also it's an archbishop power so I'm pretty sure he loses a small amount of sanity every time it activates

>Also Beatrice is best you raging homosexual.
She's typical loli-tsundere, what so great about her?

>Ayamatsu and the Echidna IF
I mean, Tappei could have just made him have more lives in them.

You wanna keep shittalking about everyone's favorite daughter? Because that's not a wise choice.

I was utterly disgusted in this. 50% were amazing other 50% shitty. Theres no explaination to why he has this curse/power. Ending is bad and WHY he never questions what is he doing in this world. It's like "ok this is my life now I am gonna chase some random woman and be butler maybe humilate myself and die a couple of times doing this all".

>so I'm pretty sure he loses a small amount of sanity every time it activates
Considering the situations that usually lead to a reset, he'd lose his sanity either way

Also have people mentioned the end of Arc 3 yet? From the OP up to here it seems like only a handful of people here have so much as made it through Arc 2

I just want to know, why do you all considering rezero like great anime? Is there really something great, like in Steins;Gate or something?

It had potential. Buut it was wasted. If you want some cheap romance drama and some fantasy fights then go. Main hero is idiot. Theres no answers to most important questions. Hero just blindly follows his dream waifu. I had blast with ~50% episodes I was dissapointed with the rest.

It was good for promoting the LN/WN. The WN is the secret sauce to what is keeping everyone to latched on. Most people here who are fans o this series would agree that the anime was a mediocre adaptation but the best possible attempt at it.
Plus something about Subaru possibly being the actual villain of the series as well as layers of kekkaiku is pretty enjoyable that and when the series tried to make an impact boy does it make one. The characters are endearing as well.

Have you read monkey's paw? Its kinda like that but isekai version.
