It's always been the responsibility of the older generation to provide the resources and tools necessary for the next generation to thrive. Being a rebellious youth is so common it's practically cliche. One time, my mother was called to my school by the administration because I brought a Time Magazine into class that had just honored Martin Luther King as "Man of the Year". I was confused why there was such a big fuss. It was the first time I had ever seen a person of color being treated with dignity and respect, so I used it for my report of the week. My mother listened to the administration, and was very pleasant and respectful. A few days later, she took us out of that school and moved us to another public school on the other side of town. My mother was my inspiration, teaching me that it's possible to challenge social norms AND be polite, dignified, and respectful while doing so. Everyone isn't going to agree with you, and that's okay. The important thing is learning that everybody has a place and a purpose in this world.
