What is the difference between patriotism and nationalism?

First figure out the difference between a country and a nation.

That’s honestly a good question. They’re essentially synonymous but with very different connotations. I think both the Nazis on this board as well as the leftists could probably agree on the statement “what is the point in reverence to a country that does not care for it’s people?” Obviously for very different reasons.

are you implying that nationalism can only apply to nations, and patriotism can only apply to countries?

its actually the same despite what some leftists might say (fuck their forced newspeak)

nationalism is putting your nations first, and a nation is a group of people linked together by something that separates them from other groups, what is that links them together varies from nation to nation

patriotism refers to "fatherland", which seems to allude to territory (country), however the territory often is seen as the homeland of the people, as in protecting your home.

Personally I think the people are more important than the actual land, sure protecting your home is indeed important, but only because your people need it to live, but people still come first

I'm implying you believe a nation is just a synonym for country.

Patriotism is nationalism designed for a proposition ''''''''''nation'''''''''', which is not a coherent nation at all. It is loyalty to something which has no connection whatsoever to tribalism or any natural human instinct, only a bunch of abstractions.

Well, I don't believe that, since ethnonationalism debunks that concept quite clearly.

However, there is overlap between nations and countries, thus my confusion on the terms patriotism vs nationalism.

>but people still come first
That’s the sticking point at the crux of the heart of just about any political argument. We all agree the people should still come first, but our definitions of who “the people” are differ wildly depending on your political perspective. To nazis it’s white people, to leftists it’s workers, to Republicans it’s the wealthy, to democrats it’s POC... and the wealthy.

Very similar words, nationalism, patriotism, sovereignty etc, it was the biggest reason we told the EU to fuck off.

>to leftists it’s workers

This is just not true, at least not anymore. Leftists don't even like workers, and especially the working class.

in corporatism money comes before people
it is not politics to present in a party that tries to run for elections, but it certainly is present at board meetings

Well that’s just nonsense. The entire basis of socialist and communist praxis is protecting worker’s rights. You’re thinking of liberals.

Patriotism: Supporting your country
Nationalism: Belief that state borders should correspond to ethnic boundaries

Nationalists are usually against the country but in favor of the people.

...

learn words faggot
>patriotism
>patria
>patrius & terra (latin)
>home of the father
&
>nationalism
>nation (french)
>Augustin Barruel created the word
>wanted a word to express feeling of animosity towards others nations than oneself

(he was based, first to say the french revolution was masonic work)

The words leftists and liberals have gotten blended together so much that I really cannot tell the difference between either anymore, and there really doesn't seem to be any obvious distinction between the two that makes either easily identifiable.

And to be honest, I don't believe even self proclaimed marxists care about the working class. I believe they simply hate the rich even more.

The only group I can identify which is clearly pro-worker are unionists.

ftfy

if someone who considers himself a patriot says something you don't like you can relabel him a nationalist.

There isn't a difference. Leftists will tell you that patriotism is knowing were your country can change for the better. but if you think mass deportation of illegals would make the country better then suddenly your a nationalist not a patriot.
its just a label that leftists put on people they don't like, like racist, privileged, or alt-right.

i believe patriotism is love for your country while nationalism is the feeling of your country being better than others
