Syria was always designed to be a Middle East power struggle. But when Russia got involved, it fucked up all the plans lol.
We can destroy Iranian military, navy, political structure etc. in less than a month.
The problem comes in occupying it for 15 years and dealing with the insurgency.
Declaring war on Iran without getting rid of Assad is a bold move.
Until Trump is actively demanding Assad step down with military force backing him up, I'm skeptical of him going full neocon. Dead russian mercenaries notwithstanding.

The goal in Syria was to bog down Hezbollah. The crazy neocons trump administration is filled with want to take out Iran before taking out Assad. The “moderate” neocons want to focus on taking out Assad first while maintains but undermining the Iran deal, build up for regime change.
Iran already knows this. They won't engage in overt conflict without the assistance of a foreign ally. And all signs point to that ally being Russia.

Russia won't assist Iran in a war with Israel. Like 20% of Israelis are Russian diaspora. They'll probably just sell arms to both sides but they'll never attack it directly.
All they have to do is dissuade the US from active participation. And the real linchpin of all this is the fact that Israel knows its nukes are mostly useless in a defense scenario, and Iran stands to gain much more strategically from nuking Israel than Israel stands to gain from nuking Iran.
It's all going according to plan, goyim.

A country in the middle of a civil war funded by outside interests isn't going to declaring war on anyone. Even after it's over, 5-10 years before they'd even have the capability.
