Can we all just take a minute and just appreciate some OST's? I just started Made in Abyss and it has is music set perfectly. Never have I been in awe from such good transitioning with music that actually sets to mood to what's about to come. First time in my history as weeb that I actually consider buying a physical copy.
General OST appreciation thread, post your favorites here.

youtube.com/watch?v=btmSuNcxiIU Then of course there is Madoka's intro. Even though I found the story to be a little bit of a let down, since I read everywhere that it's quite 'shocking' but it never delivered.
I don't know who made the call to give a simple low-budget cute girls show a totally bitching soundtrack, but they deserve a medal.

In my opinion, at least 50% of what makes an anime (and essentially any moving picture media, from film to video games) good is its soundtrack and sound design. Its two separate parts of the same medium that need to click in different ways to not be jarring. Music has to complement the storytelling and emotion of any given scene. It needs to elevate it. Sound on the other hand has to be unremarkable, unnoticeable and natural. It has to be what your brain expects watching any given scene.
Whenever any of those are lacking, it completely detracts from the experience. For example, while the soundtrack of MiA is phenomenal, there were many places where the sound design was completely off and jarring, too many places where they had just copy pasted stock samples repeatedly. I think this brought it down slightly.

Which show you mean? Little Witch Academia?
I fully agree with your first paragraph, without music most shows simply don't carry what they want to carry. Problem is just that very few anime shows (in my opinion) do it right. Sometimes it's pretty off putting when a shitty japan-electro beat starts even though it doesn't really line up with the shows theme.
For the second part: I really didn't notice any of it, I found it to be pretty well set. Maybe I didn't listen closely enough.
The first one is beautiful. Really like those tranquil tunes. Second one sounds really energetic, sure could make some good action-y scenes
Sounds nice, does the anime hold up to it's music? Considering to watch it.
I generally don't really like army related stuff but those tracks sound awesome. Is it worth watching?
Not really for me, sounds like your off the shelve intro. But to each their own, life would be boring if we all liked the same stuff
Thought so too. I mean, some sound like they could be stolen straight from an elevator but most of them really had something to them.
Fate/Stay also had some amazing songs, not all of them but some. Maybe I'm a little biased because I'm currently reading the VN and I'm loving it so far. youtube.com/watch?v=-su426eFStM Higurashi: Only thing I somewhat regret is watching it while too young.to really appreciate it. youtube.com/watch?v=9opZi6PluKI
Deadman Wonderland: A little on the heavy side but it really fits the shows concept. I'm still pissed that it never got it's deserved second season. youtube.com/watch?v=2pZ-UpjtlXY
This one is always making me smile, even though it's rather silly I still like the style and it really fits the show. youtube.com/watch?v=03x0bU2w9HI
And of course my all time Nr. 1 Anime: Steins;Gate. I really doubt that I will ever find a show that's so close to perfection as this one is (especially if you read the VN) youtube.com/watch?v=Rca7DLNpSzE

The anthem of the heart has a fantastic ost, it was a great movie too. Not going to link any particular song though because the entire thing is pretty great.

Just to complement the ones you posted: youtube.com/watch?v=NKPTV07MI44&index=11 youtube.com/watch?v=rELMEsw-zTI >I generally don't really like army related stuff but those tracks sound awesome. I wouldn't define Sora no Woto as being typical ''army related stuff''. It's more like CGDCT meets Haibane Renmei with a military and post apocalyptic setting . It's one of a kind and I can guarantee that's unlike anything you have ever seen, but can't be really assure that you will enjoy. Personally, it's one of my favorite shows.
Anime OST is generally pretty good, even when the plot is garbage. Same goes to vidya, even garbage Japanese games tend to have OST that's at least decent. My conclusion is that Japs are pretty good at making music.

Awesome lady, knows her craft.
Wouldn't say that everything they make is good. Had many animes and some games where the soundtrack was utter garbage.
I didn't said everything was good, that would be stupid as I can't claim that about anything. What I said is that the quality of OST in Japanese media is much more consistent than the quality of plot, characters or even animation.

Music sets the mood so well. I got way more into umineko even with it's terrible art than I ever expected thanks to both the sound track and the sound effects.
Zankyou no Terror's soundtrack always bums me out. It's exceptional and the show is anything but. Yoko Kanno deserves better
Sebastian Young
The think the worst part is how strong it started. We had an expertly directed and animated few episodes before it went down hill in quality. There was a few scenes that were great in the latter half but overall was boring as fuck.
Blake Mitchell
even though the anime was arguably crap, Mai-Hime had a glorious soundtrack... but then again, you can't go wrong with Yuki Kajiura
>Is it worth watching? Perhaps. Give it a one episode test. Generally this anime appeals to people who love CGDCT, inspecting all the little details for hidden parts of the setting, or prefer an alternative look to how post-apocalyptic ought to be. Keep in mind that this anime came out on the heels of K-On, so the standard moe tropes are in full force.

Oh yeah, can't forget about Sakamichi no Apollon. It cheats a bit by using some jazz classics, but that's no reason to turn down a listen. youtube.com/watch?v=3BNRENSEV0g
My favorite especially for the scene where it plays for the first time
Cameron Allen
Is there any OST more overrated than the MiA one? Just because it's made by a gaijin doesn't mean it's good. Most tracks are actually quite bland and too short to make a point. Sure you might have a couple of good tracks, but most of it is quite unremarkable and the singing is horrible too. Even a fucking Kajiura OST released the same month was better composed. I truly don't understand the hype behind this FoTM OST. It's like we got invaded or something, which is not far from the truth if we take a look at MiA threads.
Charles Murphy
There's plenty of newfags latching onto MiA just like any breakout show from any given season, and it just happens to have a fairly broad appeal to the sound in its OST. Apparently the music is used well, but I haven't been following the show so I can't really say that's the case for sure.
The OST's alright, and yeah there is a sense of novelty that it was composed by some weeb ausfag, but it's not totally undeserving of the acclaim it's receiving. There are far more overrated soundtracks than MiA.
>Apparently the music is used well That's not even true. In fact, there are a lot of tracks that are not even used, and some of those are among the most interesting.
