So, after Sup Forums taught me that Hiramoto is "cheating" by tracing 3D models, I started wondering: What artists are "cheating" while creating their works?
I mean, it's well-known that Western artists swipe (trace another work) and trace (backgrounds) a lot. What about Japs?

Anything with those hyperrealistic backgrounds cheat. Inio Asano is one of the most well known tracers. Hiroya Oku is also one. Togashi also has a few examples here and there

The trick's to use any 3D models sparingly and only for the most detailed and difficult poses or perspectives. But it's not absolute.
Everything can be freehand or referencing to real images, photos, maneqiuns, or real models like your mirror reflection. That's the real and only way to grind the experience curve.
Ken Akamatsu uses 3D extensively to model backgrounds, then draws over them.

go to Sup Forums and they'll show you tons of absolutely blatant examples how frequently tracing porn, movie stills, and even ad images is used for characters in capeshit. All done by highly paid professionals.

Now, he does indeed cheat when he must draw nature backgrounds, like a forest or a park. He uses real pictures and gives it grayscale and calls it a day.

Are you idiots? Asano takes his own pictures, he research a lot, then he choses the photos and work them, is not like taking an Istockphoto and paste it on your comic designed page. He repaints and redraws a lot.
Also, why is people so butthurt about mangaka using photos and tracing on their work? Is not like they are Bob Ross.
