I understand Fate/Zero on more than just surface level now.

I'm surprised they even aired this on TV. It was fully funded by fans as a love letter to VN readers. Was the first episode pretty crap? Sure, they started at a weird place that only really people who've read the source material could get the most out of, and the animation/direction was really early 2000s.
The VN is legit great though. The artwork is good, the music is good, and the english translation is outstanding, so you can really absorb that silly chunni prose.
