Mangakas don't have much better work conditions depending on how their work is serialized. Monthly mangas can be pretty tough, and the schedule for a weekly manga is a fucking nightmare.

Like other creative artists, mangaka have a lot of work and little pay unless they get lucky. Animators have similar conditions without any creative freedom. if she's popular enough for her manga to be translated into English and made into an anime, animator is unlikely to be a step up.
