some guys wanted to replace the internet with a telepathic connection to everybody on earth. as part of their plan to accomplish this, they made lain, an AI with physical form that also exists on the internet. when the two united, the new internet could form, with lain being basically all powerful inside of it. the new internet is made but lain decides she doesn't want to be worshipped as a god so she uses her power to either undo the creation of the new internet or make people unaware of it so that they live normally as if this new internet doesn't exist.

i'm glossing over a lot of shit obviously, but that's the gist.

Nah this show isn't nearly good enogh to be pleb filter. It's just good at creating an atmosphere and has some interesting visuals sometimes. It relies too much on not having a coherent story just for style, and it doesn't even have truly interesting characters since halfway though Lain just becomes mostly emotionless.
