Graduate, 29, sues university for £60,000 over her 'Mickey Mouse' degree in international business strategy

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5487089/Anglia-Ruskin-graduate-sues-university-Mickey-Mouse-degree.html

>Although I don't agree with IBS being a mickey mouse degree, since I did a similar titled degree, International Business for my MSc, which proved to very important for my job and got promoted three pay-scales because of it.

>It essentially comes down to the University you attend.

>I did my Bachelors in Economics at University College London and I did my masters at University of Edinburgh.

>I've seen HR pass up capable graduates with degrees in quantitative subjects from mid ranking institutions in favour of Russell Group graduates with degrees such as Music or History.

>I believe like many International Students, she was sold a lie, either by the University itself or by the agents that they contract to recruit students from abroad.

>I don't think many of the institutions which have degree awarding power in the UK should be in existence, or at least strip them of degree-awarding power and turn some into specialist non degree awarding institutes of learning....You simply can't make everything into a degree...like Golf Course Management....oh wait...you can.

I hope she wins, so this can act as a wake up call for the Government to shake up higher education, which has over the last 20 years prostituted itself for money, and turned into paper mills rather than institutions of learning.

Plain as fuck.

>capitalism
>everything becomes a worthless, cheap mockery of itself

......yes, I bet she gives good head

I'd fuck her.
is that the answer you wee seeking?

Yes. Why not?

>She added that the prospectus claims about employment prospects and education quality encouraged her to move from Hong Kong to Cambridge to study.

She is a idiot.
Degree from any one of the 3 major universities in HK is more than enough to land her a decent job any where.

>University College London
>University of Edinburgh
>Any college or university in the UK

You might as well go to the interview screaming "I WANT TO SUCK A MILLION MUSLIM COCKS!"

All day and night

yeah at the drop of a dime are you kidding

It doesn't say that she passed up going to university in HK, maybe she couldn't hack it and opted to move to UK to study

I dont think it will change much because we are on the brink of automation.

>dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5487089/Anglia-Ruskin-graduate-sues-university-Mickey-Mouse-degree.html

Huh. So now she's a victim for believing a sales pitch? She don't understand supply / demand?

Maybe her not getting a job has nothing to do with the degree itself, but the fact she chose to pursue it.

Let me guess... cunt found out that degree and where it comes from doesn't really matter if you aren't competent. Arts and history degrees being worthless.. news at 11. History degree being pretty worthless outside of academic or education careers. Music and every other art degree are absolutely worthless unless you are extremely competent, creative field is extremely competitive and completely talent driven. Being mediocre or just average on creative industries means that you are nearly unemployable. I'm seriously worried about how many students end up chasing nothing in art schools.

Bitch might be too much of trouble to her bosses and complete cunt to anyone under her and get shit from people she manages when asked for personnel evaluations.

>Anglia Ruskin University
hahahaha what was she expecting?

>go to the interview screaming "I WANT TO SUCK A MILLION MUSLIM COCKS!"
That'll land you a job in any silicone valley company, unlike some diploma

>State sponsored markets

who is this semen demon?

....lol, read it again user.

>government guarantees to pay for pretty much anyone to go to uni
>allows unis to charge massive fees
>surprised when unis start churning out garbage degrees which they all charge the maximum price for to get anyone and everyone into uni because why would you not when the government has already promised to pay for anyone who wants to go?

Once again, state interference in the market fucks everything up.

>I've seen HR pass up capable graduates with degrees in quantitative subjects from mid ranking institutions in favour of Russell Group graduates with degrees such as Music or History.

Might this be because HR are incompetent cunts. Who make everyone's job harder and more difficult. It's because HR people are at the bottom down there with education majors. How do businesses stay alive with people like this hiring for them?

I checked the ranking of Anglia Ruskin and its ranked 301-350th in the world by the Times. That's not a bad ranking by far. Especially if the course is structured well and she gets great marks 85%+.

It just seems that a. the field is oversaturated and businesses are already burdened by retarded HR staff, b. she got crap grades or c . she couldn't sell herself in terms of appearing attractive to employers.

lol are you retarded? Education in the UK and most of the world is state funded for the most part.

I dunno man. Thing about Chinese women is they can have this smell. You know how niggers stink? Well, chinks do too. Just in a different way.

I think I can count on one hand the number of truly attractive chinks I've ever met on one hand. Japanese & Korean women are different, but actual Chinks? Nope.

>60k for a degree in a public university
wtf
here the best private business uni costs less and companies will reach out to you to hire you if you have decent grades

>I hope she wins, so this can act as a wake up call for the Government to shake up higher education, which has over the last 20 years prostituted itself for money, and turned into paper mills rather than institutions of learning.

I would agree with this but see no hope of it because the change in the universities is directly because of government (especially tory) policy. the Universities have had to become money grubbing paper mills because the government refuses to fund good education.

they have applied perverse incentives - putting research far above teaching adn the student experience, so that now many universities have very low teaching standards, with huge class sizes, low teacher contact hours adn the whole place is dedicated to research. students are just customers, fed the cheapest to provide course.

mind you, when I got a degree we used to say we were "reading" a subject - students actually read vast numbers of books and did not expect to be spoon fed...

says someone who knows nothing about universities in the UK...

Poor girl is discriminated against because she's Asian.

Good points. I would add universities should stick to theory like liberal arts degrees, arts degree and science degrees like they did before.

Most people need to get some kind of tertiary education whether it be a 5 week course or a 6 month or 1-2 year diploma since surprise surprise government high schools fail to train anyone in marketable skills. The job market has changed so people do need some training. So all these universities that have popped up should instead be honest about what they're doing and just offer qualifications and practical training. Diplomas and certificates instead.

Also get rid of all government funding in education. Primary, secondary and tertiary.

> refuses to fund good education
Government funding is the problem.

> they have applied perverse incentives - putting research far above teaching adn the student experience, so that now many universities have very low teaching standards, with huge class sizes, low teacher contact hours adn the whole place is dedicated to research. students are just customers, fed the cheapest to provide course.
Would be solved by a free market in education.

Yes, HR is 80% women, an estrogen filled clusterfuck. HR is almost a separate organisation that is attached to the company.

In the UK, if you go to a Uni outside...say the nation's top 40, you might aswell use your degree as toilet paper, unless you have alot of experience to support your applications.

>I hope she wins, so this can act as a wake up call for the Government to shake up higher education
>Government to shake up higher education

I'm not in the muh free market fixes everything board anymore?

That's sounds pretty bad. University ranking here matters too, but only for your first maybe second job. If however you have prior experience, say an internship, good marks (75%+), you ace the interview then you can get your foot in the door.

I think the issue in the UK is that when you have incompetent people doing the hiring and they don't know what to look for, especially women, then they go by what they think is best. I.e. prestige.

I'd pay her to be my cleaning lady and sex toy. No university degrees required.

>Anglia Ruskin

Learning the hard way that polys are still polys, even if they convince themselves that they are real unis.

Every job has to train. University is supposed to teach you to think critically. It's just an extension of high school now.

Yes, I think here there are a myriad of problems.

1) They should have never passed the Universities Act of 1992, which turned Polytechnics into Universities.

2) The Labour Government shouldn't have pushed for an increase in University participation, without firstly making the capacity available and secondly also alternatives available too.

3) The Government should have really "directed" people into which degrees you should take, by either not allowing Universities from providing certain subjects or pushing people to do apprenticeships or HNDs instead.

4) Expansionist Immigration policy coincided with the higher education expansion....essentially, when they opened the floodgates for immigrants to move here, they also relaxed everything elite or premium about Universities.

5) Not enough STEM related capacity, I remember this when I first applied to University, the spaces were simply not there. I had friends who wanted to become Medical Doctors, and had to end up doing Biomed (to try to get into through graduate entry) or something completely different.

She probably has sex with superior white men all the time.

went to a former poly to get a masters in chemistry

I lucked out so hard landing my first job, £25k a year permanent contract.
Most of my classmates are doing £18k a year jobs on 4 month contracts just being lab monkeys because employees know that you're fresh out a poly, no industry experience, you'll do anything to start putting something other than "student" on your CV.
They expect to take a huge shit down your throat and have you thank them for it.

I think only like 3 polytechnics can genuinely say that they aint polys anymore

Coventry Uni, UWE and UWL come to mind

Its mostly dumbass hr bitches who have no knowledge of the field

> ) They should have never passed the Universities Act of 1992, which turned Polytechnics into Universities.
The problem with a lot of things in the UK is government intervention. The government should stay out of a lot things, like education. Let polytechnics upgrade themselves if they so wish.

> The Labour Government shouldn't have pushed for an increase in University participation, without firstly making the capacity available and secondly also alternatives available too.
See above.

> The Government should have really "directed" people into which degrees you should take, by either not allowing Universities from providing certain subjects or pushing people to do apprenticeships or HNDs instead.
The problem is due to government intervention. Let people and the institutions settle out among themselves.

> Not enough STEM related capacity, I remember this when I first applied to University, the spaces were simply not there. I had friends who wanted to become Medical Doctors, and had to end up doing Biomed (to try to get into through graduate entry) or something completely different.
When governments manage a good or service you can expect shortages.

I can understand how living on a dystopian island for your whole life has warped your way of thinking. I don't mean that to insult you.

How higher education could work in a free market.

Assuming we still have state high schools. You graduate high school. I assume in the UK like here you have a grade you graduate with in, in certain subjects like maths and chemistry or whatever. You apply to a university, polytechnic or whatever you want to. Since governments are funding degrees prices have to be kept low and affordable so they can actually sell their service, and also because of competition between institutions both domestically and abroad.

1/2

2/2

You might take out a loan for example to study engineering at a university. The annual cost is say $16,000 a year for a 4 year course. So you can't afford it. However there is a demand for engineers and starting pay is $55,000 on average for fresh graduates.

You go to a lending institution like a bank. They of course want to issue as many loans as possible so to make money.

The bank checks your grade, and does say an IQ test. They check the field you want to study is in demand and can be sure that you'll pay them back. Like most big loans banks give it to you in chunks. It applies to million dollar companies too.

So they say if you dip below a 65% average during your first year we won't finance your degree, and you'll owe us the money withstanding. Bam. This way smart people get through school, even if they are economically disadvantaged, and universities/polys/whatever are encouraged to shape up and offer courses that are in demand.

Lousy schools produce shitty graduates, which creates a bad reputation for the school and so schools have to keep their standards reasonably high. Schools can't offer gender studies because their students won't be able to pay them back, if they borrow from the school, and likewise the banks won't either.

When it comes to job prospects, degree might help, but it isn't what makes or breaks a career. That would be actual competence at job or personal qualities like your attitude.

Private sector is pretty much meritocracy, even if there are things like nepotism and affirmative action. A friend of mine is software engineer at small to mid sized company that develops and maintains quite specialized industrial automation/remote control software for handful of industrial clients, around 100 or so workers, almost all them engineers. Number 4 guy in company is a fucking high school dropout. He has some random certificates for random hardware and software shit as an education. It doesn't really matter does people have masters or bachelors in computer science or software engineering, what matters is what they are can do for the business. That high school dropout just happened to be there when company had amount of employees that can be count with digits and is more or less self learned. He happens to be competent at his job, despite having any proper or paper mill degree. My buddy has people working under him that would be better qualified based on degrees, but then we can get back to to how good they are at their jobs. People with M.Sc will get passed on promotions for people with B.Sc if guy with B.Sc is better at his job or at managing other people.

When it comes to Chink going to Anglia Ruskin University. She should have done better research about that institution before signing up. I'm still quite skeptical about university being scam over allegation by one potentially useless cunt.

Yes.

what the fuck did I just read?

No.

I think it was the wrong intervention, if it was correctly managed with the right people in charge, higher ed in the UK wouldn't be the plastic escort it is today.

Also, Higher Ed funding works very differently in the UK.But I like your suggestions on how it should work, but the reality is, it won't happen unless there is a radical shift in government policy and actual politicians.

>in favour of Russell Group graduates with degrees such as Music or History
perhaps they are trying to fulfill some kinda quota

The private sector is only a meritocracy if you can get your foot in the door in the first place.

Can't agree more. I know a tonne of engineering graduates who make less than people who did engineering apprenticeships or trained while learning. Every one i know who did intensive training instead of going to university make much more, and it makes sense productively as they have hands on experience. I myself live in Scotland where taxpayers have to pay to make university free - the thing that pisses me off is that the vast majority of people here do degrees that are unproductive for society or leads to unemployment meaning taxpayers are losing out.

nah no quota mate, Russell Group, is a formal group of the top 24 universities in the UK.
You can break that down into three tiers, upper, middle and lower echelons.

A graduate from Oxford in History has a better chance of landing a grad job at the organization I work at than a graduate in Economics from a university ranked 45th in the UK.

Who cares for fucking degrees. I have two guys working for me, never met them, no idea what school they went to. I don't even really know their country. Bu they get the work done on time and they take ETH as payment.

Attached: 151501003.jpg (748x498, 33K)

how much they charge you for fucking your wife?

hows that working out for your company? does anything get done or are you guys just government contractors so you can afford to fuck around??

All the smart guys learn how to do the job quickly and all the retards go work in a cafe. That's how it has always worked, just now they have about 50 grand of debt

>all these people seeing a retard fall for a trap
>not seeing this as a possibly debilitating blow to the modern slave trade
Plz stop being retards.

no, i'd have sex with this one

all her points are valid, but it was down to her to research what was a good course and what wasn't. her expectations might not have been met, but at the same time they might have been unreasonable.

You're correct but I still hope she wins because it might force some change in our current retarded system.

Brainlet here
I want to learn STEM but don't know how. Can you self teach this stuff?
