HeartCatch is good but I don't recommend it as your first.
Personally I watched in release order, but I think Fresh is a better start point.

Heartcatch and Go Princess are the most safe options, but also the most boring in comparison.
I recommend starting with original Futari wa, skipping Max Heart and going forward in release order.
Also you can look up openings and start with whichever show you liked the most. Although starting with the sequels, Mahoutsukai or Kirakira might be a bad choice.
It's other way around. Fresh shines the best when you know what average Precure season is like, while Heartcatch isn't that good at this point. Especially after Fresh.
