The bell curve exists, this isn't news to anyone. Tons of people utterly lack critical thinking and all higher problem solving ability. The only shocking thing about this is that people with low IQs can actually function in day to day life. They can hold conversations, they can drive, they live daily life, and usually never get into trouble. Where they fail is complex decision making, the ability to read or hear something and understand nuance in it. They're totally lost in the realm of politics, could never become a doctor, layers, anything that requires intelligence. These are the people who vote for welfare, government intervention, and restrictions on liberty. This is a huge misconception. Low IQ in itself is a mental health disorder. An individual with an IQ of 80 is absolutely impaired. If given any sort of cognitive test they would show to be markedly below average, in many cases we'd even say its hazardous for them to perform in any number of occupations that require a great deal of responsibility. There are some groups of people who have a genetic predisposition towards things like Alzheimer's and Schizophrenia, but these aren't directly correlated with IQ. They have distinct genetic markers not known to be tied to intelligence.
Associating high IQ with mental illness like depression is heavily distorting data by failing to look at the bigger picture.

IQ is just one form of measuring someone's intelligence. It's mostly used to see how retarded a person is. IQ isn't static. A person who puts in a conscious effort to improve their problem solving skills can see an increase in IQ. IQ is fairly accurate to measure mental retardation and potential but not much else. A low IQ is a disadvantage. At the top end of the spectrum IQ is debatable. Qualities such as creativity cannot be measured. Aptitude is required to become a doctor or obtain a Ph.D, hard work and perserverence is above all else. Race mixing will result in a higher average IQ and be lower at the top end of the spectrum. There's no coincidence Obama was part white. Is there.
