From what I gather, experts in the "hard" science is like genetics and biology have some very very strong intuitions on numerous subjects. Of course according to the scientific method you have to observe and reproduce your results. For decades, centuries even, astronomers new there were planets outside of our solar system. They knew it for a fact yet they never had the technology or the technique to prove it scientifically until the mid 90s. This seems like a similar case. Advancements made over the last 20 years in the field of genetics are proving that lineage and heritability affect everything from physical characteristics such as height to personality characteristics. Why would intelligence be any different?
Hell, people pay more than $1,000 for a dog because of its lineage.
