I had a similar feeling while visiting L.A area for a week. I found it exhausting in all ways spiritual/mental/physical. The weather, and landscapes were certainly gorgeously picturesque, considerably warmer than home for me. However, I couldn't quite feel totally comfortable or at ease. I felt as if there was no space to roam, totally compacted into these crevices in mountains with no room to be totally separated from it all. People walked as if they were in a hurry, but rarely did I see someone look at the sky, or the beautiful nature around them. California has a certain atmosphere to it, that is entirely manufactured by man*boomer capitalism*kind. At least, that was my experience with the area. The whole land could very well be cursed, either by something supernatural or artificial. Potentially both. The Gold Rush comes to mind. Maybe the miners took too much out of the land, and forgot to give back.
