Komugi is to Pitou what Kite is to Killua. Although they don't have any strong feelings towards the people in question, it's their relationship to the person they hold most dear (Meruem and Gon respectively) that they are willing to would risk blood and limbs over.

It makes me fully appreciate the dark reversal of roles between Gon and Meruem. Memes and shit posts aside, I really love this series.

I don't think Pouf has any parallel but he serves his role as being the most "ant-like" among the guards while he looks almost entirely human.

And I liked Youpi's gradual transition from just a brute to a fighter that actually uses his brain and actually being grateful to the opposing force to help him realize it.

Yes. A copout would have been her running away from Gon, even calling it fan pandering for keeping a popular character alive. Her character never deviated from what was established, but instead evolved into a more sympathetic yet devoted shitty kitty.

Her design is still way more appealing than his character.

Pitou should have turned tail and run away the second Komugi was safe. Gon would have eventually forgiven her and we'd have cat shenanigans. In some other world maybe...

Any other situation with her being alive is story interference for fanservice. 99% chance from the beginning Pitou was going to end up dead at the end of the arc.

She shouldn't of overestimated Gon's potential, Post Rose Meruem would've wrecked Gon-san. All she had to do was not say anything to him and leave, he would've just sulked there until Killua showed to try to cheer him up.

While the Chimera Ant arc was probably the best arc in manga alongside some great side characters, the Chimera Ants got completely BTFO by humanity. Pouf would kill himself if he saw that their king died and that the entire arc basically led to the rest of the majority of their race being a bitch to the most fabulous fag that can actually mess with Ging.

The character change began the moment Meruem told Pitou to heal Komugi. Actually, I think it happened around the time Meruem asked what his name was.

The plan was always to kill Gon but she has learned to extend empathy from her recent experience.

Pitou was dead the second the King was contagious. Even if at that point there were multiple realities where she ran from Gon or killed him and run or killed him and ran from Killua-San she would have eventually made her way to the king before being taken to Komugi. He would try to convince her to leave just like he did to Komugi but unlike that bitch Pouf who separated from the king after he was disillusioned, she would have offered to cure them, both parties knowing she would be a goner as well. She guaranteed would have died after the king but before Komugi, all three in the room instead.

You don't get it. Pitou knew damn well that she COULD have killed Gon in that moment before departing to the hideout. But she didn't, because Komugi was still under Gon's control, and there was the danger that Gon's sharpened senses would detect an attack and eliminate Komugi in retaliation before Pitou could recover her. "Empathy" wasn't the thing stopping Pitou in this scenario.
Then later when Pitou got the phone call in the hideout, under the impression that Komugi was safe, there was really no reason for her to continue walking instead of slicing Gon right there and then.
