It really is not any easier to kill an unarmed person with a gun than with a sword. Swords were incredibly effective weapons for thousands of years. People also really underestimate the number of people that survive getting shot (a decent percentage of gun suicides fail, and that's kind of hard to fuck up.)
This is getting passed the issue. Even if guns did increase the murder rate by a small percent. It's not worth losing our freedom over that. You are still vastly more likely to die in a car accident, and no one is trying to ban cars.
