People always see how violent and miserable Caesar's Legion is and wonder why anyone would side with them. However, they forget that in New Vegas, all you see is their army and they're in conquering mode (which they're surprisingly good at). Back east, their territory is more peaceful than the NCR. There are no bandits. There is no war. There are chem fiends or criminals. Everyone has learned the rules and the conquered population lives by them. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that Caesar's Legion holds their civilians to their military standard, but they don't. They enact certain laws to ensure you can't undermine them, but other than that, you get to live as you want. If you talk to that merchant who hangs out at the fortress, he's just a normal guy, but loves the Legion because he can literally travel their whole territory without having to hire guards.
For many if not most of the people under the Legion's authority, daily life is actually fairly decent. But you have no power in deciding the laws. They will prevent you from certain degenerated behaviors, and they will limit your access to technology (but no more the the Brotherhood of Steel does in the Commonwealth).

And about the women thing: again, those rules are only for the Legion itself. Yes, the nuclear family is best model for normal society. But the Legion takes boys at a young age to train them to be brutal but disciplined soldiers for their entire life. That's their one job. So it actually works.
Caesar's Legion's real problem, if you can stomach the brutality, is that they need Caesar. He has failed to even begin training a successor. They will suffer the same fate as the real Rome after he dies.

It had nothing to do with a "warrior society", which Rome stopped being after the Marian Reforms anyway. It was that Christianity couldn't adapt to the massive bureaucracy of Rome. The Roman cult was like a business in and of itself, and perfectly meshed with Roman government and society. Christianity was tacked on after the fact, and had to be heavily modified, which hurt both Rome and Christianity.

The problem with Caesar's legion is the political structure. There's no contingency plan for when Caesar dies. It's not a monarchy, rather than a massive collective warband of raiders. He has no successors, so when he dies the Legates will be at each others' throats for power, and it will collapse.
