The anime, though not bad visually, doesn't convey the sharp black-white contrast of the manga. Also I liked the fact that in one panel a sky at noon can be completely black and white in another, something virtually untranslatable to hand-painted backgrounds

I think the main drawback f the manga is the lack of color of the gems. it's hard to tell characters apart sometimes there are so many.
