Modern nukes dont make much fallout since they tend to airburst, you dont have to worry about residual radiation to the extent you did in the old days, so dont use things like fallout 3 or decades old guides as instruction manuals, but dont ignore it either. Sites that were directly nuked are still a no go but things like fallout traveling around are not as big a concern. Still a concern however, dont drink water that has passed through a nuked location for example, and avoid any situation where something that might potentially be contaminated can enter your body, which means just being super paranoid about everything at all times. Its about mitigation.
Ideally you want springs or snow melt on mountainsides that were facing away from any nearby nukes.
Rub iodine on your body if you dont have iodine pills, i have no idea how much is needed, cover your torso, your body will absorb iodine through your skin (you can not consume the kind of antiseptic iodine you get at the pharmacy, dont drink it, just put it on your body). Use it to disinfect and treat wounds too, iodine is great as it makes a protective seal of sorts, on small cuts and scrapes it will disinfect and protect. This is important, you dont want to get an infection in the post apocalypse, and though not probable any open wound is a way for fallout to get in too. Speaking of this make sure you dont go shoving potentially radioactive things up your ass when you get lonely.
Apart from that its standard survival stuff. Dont trust anyone, or find people you can trust. You need food and water and being unassuming is ideal.

Another note on water, because its important. Water itself doesn't really get irradiated, its contaminants in the water. Filtering the water to ensure you dont swallow any fallout will make the water just fine (dont forget about the more mundane non nuclear apocalypse water concerns like parasites and such).
Straining water even known to be contaminated through as fine a filter you can get ahold of in an emergency is worth a shot.

It's a US air force military SWR channel. They use 11175 and 8992. Nobody knows precisely what it's for, but it's thought to be used for very high level situations (i.e ready nukes and shit like that). Uses one time pad encryption, so it's uncrackable.
But that said, the frequency of contact, and what is transmitted can be monitored. It's normally pretty quiet. SKYKANGZ calls are rare. Last few days activity has been busy as fuck though, we've had a 4 repeat SKYKINGS and multiple other calls, some 50 and 12+235 digit codes being read out, stuff like that.
