i get your meaning, but I just don't think the US is as individualistic today as you, or they, like to think they are. What I'm getting at is a difference between a fiction and the reality of the situation. Self reliance in western countries has been wiped out across the board through debt. To do anything meaningful you need to own land. To own land you need to either inherit wealth or take out huge loans at interest. This strangles small business, and creates dependence on the government to create jobs, as centralized big business is by it's nature wasteful and belligerent toward the 'community' it invades through franchising.

Growing up in a small town here we didn't have any of the big fast food franchises.
