Anime, fantasy games, games, etc. Are very alluring because they provide a sense of structure that is easily found, the rules of the game are known, and there are no permanent consequences to bad decisions. It is easy to lose yourself in such a place because such a place is easy to manipulate according to your wishes.
Life is more difficult, especially if you have no guidance from parents or older figures, and even worse if the guidance provided to you does not give you the proper tools or skills necessary to navigate life in your current circumstances. IN game terms, it is like being given the rules to D&D while playing Call of Cthulu. Shits not gonna work, your gonna get frustrated, and seek other replacements.
I personally think that youth nowadays, especially those drawn to anime and video games, are drawn to them precisely because they have no guidance on how to properly shape their environment according to their will. Everything that they have been taught is wrong and does not work, so they retreat since nothing they do works and causes real consequences.
But there is a way for them to know the foundation of life and society, of how people interact and human interaction, of what to do in order to gain wealth, employment, happiness, satisfaction, etc. But the answer is so mired in self-help bullshit that doesn't work and Joel Osteen bullshit that its like trying to clean the Agean Stables.
