Cute girls.

There are tons of shows with cute girls that only manage to sell a few thousand copies and never get picked up again.

Directing, character design and script outweigh good animation.

there is such a thing as trying too hard

Figure it out, and you can be a millionaire producer.

EVERYBODY
IS
A
FURFAG
NOW

Cute animalgirls that appeal to kids and adults

The animalgirls are not sexualized so parents let their kids get into the show and it stays innocent making it a toy cashcow

Adults will of course lewd the Friends and it becomes a cashcow also among adult fans

Characters are so boring and generic personality-wise, it is impossible to hate any of them, so they appeal to everyone

Everyone loves real-life animals too so there can be lots of merchandise tie-ins

It's literally anime take on Friendship is Magic.

A better question is: How does an anime series with pubescent characters in fetish clothing get so popular across the entire spectrum of the populace, including children?

WHO

AREN'T

YOU

QUOTING?

they have four ears it's not furry

>Actual interesting world that has a secret that is slowly shown to hook watchers into wanting to see the next episode.

>Diverse cast of characters so there is something for everyone

>Despite how cheap the show may look the character designs are all very nice giving fan artists tons of great new characters to draw.

>everyone loves animal girls

Simplicity.

That meta-irony, though.

Friends are extremely cute.

It had personality and charm, something drastically missing from 90% of anime. In this case the low quality animation actually helped it get noticed, where as if it was mediocre traditional animation it might have gotten overlooked. Also good character designs and a broad appeal that wasnt too explicitly made for perverts kept it at the spot it was at. Plus after a certain popularity level a series will explode just because people want to be in on the new popular thing.

The biggest group of people who watched the show in Japan are adult males in their 30s though. The way you are describing it is kind of all the wrong way round. It is kind of like one of those Pixar films with the jokes that go over the kids head but the adults will enjoy kind of.

>are

Is this anime Lost with animal girls? Is the mystery any good?

>Plus after a certain popularity level a series will explode just because people want to be in on the new popular thing.
My waffle light will be a hit one day. I'm gonna be rich!

R.I.P

It's a bit fresh air, has a charm and actual cute girls. So many animes in these years today are trying the same thing too but are failing and forgotable

...

Some sort of Kardashian effect.

The way it approaches its mystery component is quite unique in that the narrative of the show and the characters for the most part completely ignore it and walk around acting like everything is normal leaving the viewer almost entirely to their own devices to come to conclusions about what is going on. In that way it sucks you in by creating a sense of curiousity, only dropping small hints at the wider setting mostly that allow your imagination to explore the possibilities. The mystery is in your face in the sense that it is there in every scene staring back at you but the opposite of in your face in the sense that it is very rarely engaged with by the characters or the narrative.

the mystery is shit but it's presented very well

It was just that good

A good story far outweights expensive glitters

Friends are extra cute, and there's the mystery and adventure.

You know one thing this show did well was exactly what the director of Flip Flappers was trying to do according to his interviews. It managed to create a show where you could if you wanted just enjoy it just as a light hearted show to relax to or get as engaged as you want with speculation and fan theories about the setting, the characters, the mechanics and so on. You could completely ignore all that stuff if you wanted and find a way to get positive enjoyment out of it but it also has that component there for people who want to explore it.

This is all good and right, but hasn't this very formula been tried before with considerably less success? It seems like y'all missing the special sauce.

It's the shit animation getting people to watch the show and then be surprised when it is much better than you would expect and the memetic appeal of the characters, interactions and scenes. The director of the show worked on creating MMD videos on niconico for 10 years before he made this show. He understands the audience and how to create those kinds of moments that people love to meme about.

By being good.
"Production quality" is just like makeup. If your face is shit, it doesn't matter how many layers of wax you stuff on it.

It's simple: Japan isn't USA.

I don't disagree with your overall point and I am no expert on the makeup community but I feel like there are far great proportion of anime fans that appreciate and enjoy high production quality than there are people in the general public that appreciate the artistry of make up.

That said although the production quality of this show wasn't great, it appealed in a whole separate way specifically by not being great in a very unique kind of way. It wasn't bad in the way so many anime productions are bad on quality. It was bad in its own unique and charming way rather than just being another in the pile of badly made anime that turned out that way because the creators were behind schedule or whatever Kemono Friends appearance was an intentional aesthetic choice on behalf of the team behind creating it.

>KF goes full CG
oh what is this shit, kys faggots
>Inuyashiki goes full CG
oh my god it's a masterpiece

...

So it seems like Fukuhara unfollowed the main Kemono Friends twitter account or he was never following it to begin with, but surely he was.

I'm perfectly alright. Tatsuki is not Fukuhara. Tatsuki does seem to have unfollowed Hosoya from TV Tokyo though who was one of the main producers on Kemono Friends.

Same reason games like Morrowind are successful. Environmental storytelling.

Most of the time with kemonomimi characters they end up pretty much just being human with animal ears. However in KF they are so dumb that it is believable that they could actually be animals. That triggers some sort of instinct in me that makes me want to protect them.

I also really like the setting with no humans. I much prefer rural places to the city. It makes me wish I was there.

>KF threads are comfy
>mod goes autistic
>new KF threads are only ever low-effort bait
It's embarrassing how bad Sup Forums has become. Someone start posting 3d porn here so we can nuke this shit thread.

The characters being so dumb is very nice.

Too bad nobody posted in the thread earlier. I was in a meeting.

There is nothing really wrong with this thread. It is mostly just people discussing the appeal of Kemono Friends.

DELET

Ask the French.

Do you not know how to read a graph son?

Oh his, so he literally applied memetics to maximize his show's viral spread.

moe-nation user

moonpeople only watch mechs and moe series.

im not sure what you mean by "higher quality"

But why? It's not like KF as a franchise is what angered him, and I don't think Kado has anything to do with the official KF twitter.

He's also following Donald Trump..

>appreciate the artistry of make up
The thing about good makeup is that it works even if you don't understand it. It makes the person more attractive to the general public regardless of whether the public understands the techniques applied.

I think you are probably misinterpreting my meaning. Not that it isn't fairly obvious. There are two possible points I am making one of which would be entirely retarded (that the Kemono Friends fanbase is mostly 30-40 year olds) and the other anyone can see just from looking at the graph that the biggest group is 30-40 year olds given the age range groupings in the graph. Now obviously if you arranged it so it was 30-40 year olds as one group, then everyone else as another group that would be an entirely different story.

The director and producer have both said that the kind of reactions the show got from fans (I assume with moments like the funny bits, the catchphrases, the ways of speaking the characters have, the mysterious clues) were what they were going for but they never expected the scale of the spread to get so big. With the producer saying that he thinks the director has an innate sense for how to create those kinds of moments from working on those niconico kinds of videos for a decade.

There will be no Christmas special, what feel?

The most straight forward logic and conclusion to jump to would be "Why follow a show you don't have any involvement with anymore" meaning the negotiations were not successful and they are just waiting for what they feel is the right time to announce.

But all that is wildly speculative and far too much of a conclusion to be drawing from the suggestion that someone may have unfollowed a twitter account we aren't sure if they ever did follow.

We can create our own Christmas special.

Also, where are the recordings from Mewhan's recent concert?

Get MMD and make your own Christmas special.

She posted an photo of her on the set.

Looks like it was setup like a little apartment, guess that fits her recluse social media famous image. Haven't seen anything else yet.

lewd japari friends

Thylacine lewds when?

MYAMYAMYAMYAMYA

Sadly never. She's twice dead now.

At first I thought this was an edit of Alpaca's tea shop scene.

Hope to get more Christmas arts. Or better yet, a possitive news by Christmas

Post the NTR one!

Unfettered rage

Irony, paying places to shill it etc. Normalfags are stupid.

Kaban looks dead inside

If it were that easy as just paying for advertisement there would be far more successful shows. Not to mention when this show got popular there was literally no advertisement, they didn't even have any merchandise to sell for when it did get popular.

Why is Jaguar so popular recently?

R.I.P Kaban.
Killed by the blue bird.

MAHOU

She was always popular for fanart and memes.

I am talking about the internet, including Sup Forums. You heard me well. Kemono is on a par with LWA when it comes to it.

We failed ;_;

I need at least her armpit...

As I said if it were that easy there would be far more successful shows.

so , were the negotiation just a red herring?
it's the phantom menace all over again

Ah yes the 30-40 year old Japanese male audience is well known for ironically enjoying anime.

>Sup Forums
>thinking Sup Forums is even relevant to Kemono Friends success

There are like a few hundred people who post in Kemono Friends threads. Maybe 10-20 that actually bought any merchandise.

Is Pata tanoshii?

>Ah yes the 30-40 year old Japanese male audience is well known for ironically enjoying anime.
Well, you can fairly say they don't care about it so they neither need to dislike or sperg about it.

Because everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there's a heart, a hand to hold onto.
nicovideo.jp/watch/sm32165034

Because it looks weird. That's literally the only reason.
If the show had a bigger budget or wasn't CG nobody would have cared about it enough to get the popularity ball rolling. But because enough people talked about it initially, it got popular and gained enough momentum to stand on its own.
All the crap you hear about it being a literary masterpiece or better than every other modern anime are just side effects of popularity.

It's a good show, but also a meme show in every sense of the word.

>if you arranged it so it was 30-40 year olds as one group, then everyone else as another group that would be an entirely different story.

That is literally the definition of 'most'

I don't really see anyone saying it's a literary masterpiece. Most of the time people praise the writing they're just saying it's a simple story that's executed well. Saying it's better than other anime has nothing to do with popularity but rather because many fans perceive it as being genuinely quite unique in multiple ways. One of which being the animation as you've pointed out. It might be more common to see this kind of praise because of popularity but that isn't the same as being praised because of being popular. You could quite easily find people claiming Tesagure as one of their favourite comedy shows before Kemono Friends was released.

The animation definitely did play a major role in it getting popular though. If it wasn't for that it almost certainly would have been another forgotten show buried in amongst all the other seasonal shows. Being memeable also did play a big role in its spread too but ultimately there are a whole host of inherent qualities in the show itself that people love.

I never said most in my original post but biggest group. As in 30-40 year olds is the biggest group as opposed to any other age group of the same type 10-20, 20-30 and so on.

Everything ever made is "memeable" anyway. Even the most serious scenes can turn into a "meme" if they get popular enough, so using anything related to "memes" to label a show (or to hate it) is rather dumb.
"Memes" are born because of popularity, not the opposite. Even in the current hellhole of the internet.

It's just one of those shows that feel better than they technically are.
It's somewhere around 6/10 if I actually had to rate it, but it gives me that same heartwarming feeling as NNB.

It's also very innocent and well-meaning, which makes you able to ignore and even love the flaws.
It's kind of like the anime equivalent of a cult film.

...

Owl legs make me want to kashikoshikoi.

Seriously though what's the final word on fucking a friend? Is it possible?

post murder otter

...

Yes, yes you can. Except for Aardwolf who is forever gone and Thylacine who will never be loved.

Wrong.

Who is your favorite friend anons?

The slug.

KF is what's known as a "meme". Memes don't care what is popular, has a high or low budget, or even if it is any good. This is why we can expect to get the good ending.

memes

Meanwhile Triage X doesn't sell at all. It takes pixiv artists to sell a show.

>no attractive designs
>doesn't sell well
Wonder why.
