I think in America you guys study the holocaust a lot but in Canada public school we spend one year of Social Studies growing up focusing on a entire country in elementary and middle school (when I was in school at least) and one of them is Russia. So we are taught like all of Russian and Soviet history from outsider perspective. Another year it was Peru, another year it was Japan. No idea who decides, seems like random countries are picked to give us "perspective"
